Mavchamp
Week 3 Results Texas High beat Midlothian Heritage 51-13 Chapel Hill beat Whitehouse 21-19 Marshall beat Tyler Legacy 55-28 Hallsville Vs. Corsicana 31-7 Nacogdoches beat Livingston 34-24 Terrell beat Mt. Pleasant 30-23 Henderson beat Jacksonville 42-7 Standings Texas High (3-0) Marshall (2-1) Nacogdoches (2-1) Whitehouse (1-2) Jacksonville (1-2) Hallsville (1-2) Mt. Pleasant (0-3) Texas High blasted a very good Midlothian Heritage team. 5A Div II Region II is shaping up to be a BEAST with THS, SOC, PNG all in the top 5. Marshall's offense scored at will against 6A Tyler Legacy....but also surrendered 309 yards passing to the Red Raiders in a 55-28 game. The difference in the game was a missed FG by Legacy, and a pair of failed fourth down tries. An interception in the endzone sealed the deal for the Mavericks. Nacogdoches took advantage of their easier matchup this week by beating Livingston for Homecoming to up the Dragons to (2-1) this season. They have a tall task this coming week as they travel to take on a (3-0) Bryan Rudder team. Whitehouse renewed their rivalry against state powerhouse Chapel Hill and nearly pulled off the upset in a 21-19 barnburner. Things get no easier for WH as they take on (3-0) Paris in their final non-district tune up. Wins have been rare for Jacksonville, so last week's win was big...but they cam back down to Earth this week with a big loss to an improving Henderson team. The Indian defense has been allowing points in bushels this season...and that was the case again this week against the Lions. Hallsville provided the biggest shock of the night with their dismantling of Corsicana....on the road no less. The Bobcats have put up some impressive offensive numbers in all three of their games thus far this season....but this was the first game that their defense stopped someone. 7-5A should take notice. Mount Pleasant is losing close games. Losing to Crandall by 3 and Terrell by 7 and Lindale by only 10... they lead in all of the games at some point. Turnovers and penalties are killing drives. It gets no easier for them in the final non-district game as they take on a (3-0) Sulphur Springs team looking to avenge last season's loss to MP. ------------- I went (6-1) this week in my picks. Sitting at (20-1) on the season thus far for 7-5A. About to start getting tough.

Ace
Fayetteville's enrollment is 2800. In Texas, they would be 6A with about half of 6A being larger, and half of 6A being smaller. Undefeated state champs last year. Ranked second in Arkansas right now. They had an open date last week allowing them an extra week of preparation for Texas High. They beat Broken Arrow, Oklahoma the week before.

I watched there game with Broken Arrow and they were down 9 to 0 at halftime and came back and scored 30 in the second half and won. I think the game is a toss up .
THSfanatic
I’ll be happy with a competitive game and no injuries I said before season started I would be excited by a 3-1 predistrict record. Chance we go 4-0 but I've seen enough to be more than satisfied in where we seem to be. Very excited to see where the year goes but also know we are in a VERY tough division. SOC is gonna be a bear in this region if we make it that far. Edited September 16 by THSfanatic

They are, in fact, the SOC Bears, aren't they?

Mavchamp
I'm certainly not picking against Texas High. They seem to be in midseason form already. They are beating some really good teams soundly. I think we've seen a big enough sample from Longview, Marshall, and others to know that Louisiana and Arkansas isn't the same has TxHSFB. I think Fayetteville is very good.... but so is THS....and...well... Texas. Until the Tigers show us they have a chink in their armor...... we're going to assume they are the favorite in each game they play. Looking pretty dang awesome right now. As a rule Arkansas level is not up to Texas But Fayetteville at least last year was a beast No comparisons in terms overall strength up and down the line but there has been some top flight teams that haven’t gotten the respect they deserve

Chris Gaines
As a Fayetteville grad, I can tell you that they are very good. Their QB is Barry Odom's son (the current UNLV coach and former Missouri HC and Arkansas DC). He has 4.5 speed and can improvise with the best of them. They have two stud WR's (Jaison DeLamar and Catavion Taylor). DeLamar is playing baseball at Arkansas so teams backed off recruiting him but Taylor has an offer from East Carolina and is getting looks from P5s. They can also run the ball well with Christian Battles and a pretty beast OL. Defensively, they are pretty sound. But Texas High will definitely be the best offense they've faced since Greenwood. They had a move-in from IMG (Parker Meese) at linebacker but he hurt his knee in mid-August and is probably out for the year. Last time Texas High played a team from NWA, it didn't go well in 2010-11. But the Tigers weren't as good then. They should feel confident Friday night. I'm hoping for a great game. I assume Fayetteville will return the game next year. Edited September 17 by Chris Gaines misspelling
Ace
I have a vague recollection that I read somewhere that the Fayetteville quarterback, Garyt Odom, is the son of Barry Odom, the former DC at Arkansas and former head coach at Missouri, and current head coach at UNLV. Hogman, you may be able to confirm?

Mavchamp
Week 4 Schedule Texas High Vs. Fayetteville- This is the top game of the week in the district IMHO. A big test for the Tigers against a top notch program. Playing on the road is tough. But Texas High has been nearly perfect this season. Their offense is clicking and their defense is getting the job done against some good competition. Until THS shows me they have an achilles heel this season.....I won't be picking against them. TEXAS HIGH WINS Marshall Vs. Palestine- After three straight weeks of playing schools (and players) much bigger than them.... the Mavs will be playing down a classification this week. A win would give Marshall a 3-1 non-district record, their best since 2015. The Mavs have a lot of things to work on headed into district. The offense is clicking on the running side...but has't NEEDED to pass much. The defense has had some issues in the secondary this season. Marshall will be too much for Palestine. MARSHALL WINS. Hallsville Vs. Pine Tree- Pine Tree is (3-0) and seems to be playing well, especially on the defensive side of the ball. The offense isn't flashy.... but when your defense has been as stingy as they have been this far, who cares? Hallsville's offense exploded for 35 points last week... and for the first time in a long time had a good defensive game. PT seems to be pulling things together....Hallsville is still questionable, esp on defense. PINE TREE WINS. Paris Vs. Whitehouse- WH gave Kilgore and C-Hill better games than most expected. They have another tough one this week with a (3-0) Paris team. Paris is scoring a lot of points..... one game they 31 points...another was 49. Whitehouse seems to be struggling with their offensive identity right now. WH is notorious with their home-cooking....so it'll be tough for Paris to get the win on the road. But PARIS WINS if the refs allow. Sulphur Springs Vs. Mount Pleasant- MP is making a lot of mistakes to keep themselves from winning. Penalties and turnovers will kill a game...and a season. SS seems to be on the right track. This is a rivalry game...so all bets are off. But until MP can prove to be able to play a complete game....it's hard to pick them. Sulphur Springs wins. Nacogdoches Vs. Bryan Rudder- Rudder is (3-0). They will be at home. Nac is (2-1) but both wins came against 4A clubs. I want to believe in Nac....but they need to give me a reason to believe in them. Rudder wins at home. Athens Vs. Jacksonville- Toss up game. Jacksonville is giving up a LOT of points. Athens is scoring a lot of points. The Hornets have scored exactly 35 points in every game this season. This game all boils down to Athen's ability to stop Jacksonville's running attack. I'll take Athen's in a close one. Athens wins.
Tex85
Texas High vs Fayetteville will be broadcast on Texarkana Gameday. still wish they would have played this game in Little Rock the next couple of years.
Ace
I would make the easy drive to Little Rock if the game were to be played there. I just don't have the courage to make that long drive on a winding two lane highway through the hills/mountains of western Arkansas. That drive is lethal ...... and I mean that literally.
