I would make the easy drive to Little Rock if the game were to be played there.    I just don't have the courage to make that long drive on a winding two lane highway through the hills/mountains of western Arkansas.   That drive is lethal ...... and I mean that literally.

The last time I came down the Pig trail out of Fayetteville on a bike was almost my last trip anywhere.

Looks like Hallsville, Whitehouse, and Marshall will have some dog fights to determine 2-4. I think Nac or Mt P will need an upset along the way to sneak in. Poor Jacksonville. THigh looks like the top team in East Texas this year, regardless of division. I don't expect the district to just hand them the trophy peacefully however.

Heck of a game. Tigers D struggled early giving up 2 touchdowns on 4th down plays in the first…got down 28-7 at one point. Heck of a 2nd half performance. Tigers win 55-54

Was actually three touchdowns on fourth down. One to DeLamar, one to Ty Mattingly and one to Catavion Taylor.

Mavchamp: what’s your call for 2,3,4 in that district?

Seems pretty open.

2. Marshall

3. Whitehouse

4. Hallsville (if they get their QB back). Otherwise I’ll take Nacogdoches.  Wanna pick MP but they seem to self destruct in games.

I wouldn’t say MP self destructs. They just don’t seem to be very good. Their offense never crossed the 30 yd line Friday night. We gifted them two TD’s for their only scores. A bad snap on a punt recovered in the end zone and a pass that bounced off our receivers chest right to their db for an easy pick six. Otherwise they never came close to scoring, and their QB took a wicked shot at the end of the game and had to be helped off the field. Not sure how long he’ll be out but it looked bad. Jacksonville may be their only shot at winning a game this year.
We were the ones that self destructed with stupid penalties or the score would have been much worse.

Fair enough.
I just know they have been competitive in most of their games but penalties and turnovers would keep them from pulling out the victory.  They’ve been right in the middle of most of their games.

Hallsville plays TH, Jax, Nac then Wh to start district play. I think if they don’t have their QB back by Nac they could be out of it before he comes back. Never wishing for anyone too be hurt and hope for a speedy recovery. Going to be fun for the 3 and 4 spot in the district. Hoping to see Nac 2-0 in district before we get to our WH,Marshall, MP, TH stretch. A young team making the playoffs could be big for development with the extra practice time. Long way to go and 1 game at a time. Have to beat Jax first.

Final Predictions for me as of 9/23:

1. TH

2. Marshall

3. WH

4. Nac

5.Hallsville

6. MP

7. Jax

This week:

Hallsville Vs. Texas High
Nacogdoches Vs. Jacksonville
Mount Pleasant Vs. Whitehouse
Marshall- Bye

1. TH 2. Marshall 3. Nac.           4. Hallsville.  Whitehouse has a solid front defense but is suspect in secondary. Don't let the 55 points fool you this past week on offense. Offense is very vanilla, QB play is inconsistent, they have small, quick scat back that can't carry the whole load in running game. District is different in 5A. Their pre-district games of  Paris, Kilgore, CH are 4A schools. 1-2. I may be wrong but WH may finish near bottom.

Chapel Hill, Kilgore, and Paris are pretty tough competition regardless of classification.  According to Maxpreps WH's strength of schedule so far is second only to TH.  I can't see WH missing the playoffs in this district.

I think Whitehouse and Hallsville fight for 3rd but either could beat Marshall if we have an off night. Nac could sneak in but I think they would need another big game like they had vs Whitehouse a couple seasons ago.

Hallsville’s season may come down to their QB coming back.

I have a hard time with any scenario that keeps Whitehouse out of the playoffs.

MP and Nac are big question marks for me. Nac beat two weak opponents but lost big to two good opponents.  MP seems to be competitive but just seems to kill themselves with penalties and turnovers.  Either could upset someone.  But which games would they be favored in outside of Jacksonville?

If Nac wins Oct 11 against Hallsville - it will all come down to the MP game for them. MP plays Hallsville the last game of the year.

Week 5
Hallsville Vs. Texas High-  Tigers by a whole lot   Hallsville may or may not have their QB back  won’t matter either way.  THS has proven they are the 500lb gorilla in the room   They have won every district championship since dropping to Div II.  Tigers win

Nacogdoches Vs. Jacksonville-  Nac should win this one going away.  I’m still not sold on Nac being a playoff team yet, but Jacksonville seems to be in the depths of despair right now.  Not picking the dragons because I think they’re stellar but more because the Indians just seem to be struggling.   Dragons win

Mount Pleasant Vs. Whitehouse- WH has played a tough schedule and I respect that.  MP’s schedule hasn’t been as impressive.  I’ll take the Wildcats mostly because they are at home and….. we all know how things are when WH is at home.  Wildcats win.

Marshall- Bye-  Mavs by one over bye. Marshall wins

Read an article in the Houston Chronicle some time back about recruiting in Texas and they brought up the THS junior,  Tredarian Ball and his almost 40 offers from all the big Div. 1 schools.  The best the college coach's could do is compare him to Reggie Bush.  And we all know how Reggie did,  Heisman winner and number one draft pick.  Sky is the limit for that kid,  however,  THS is loaded and is number one in the MaxPreps poll.  I can see this team winning a state championship if they stay healthy.  Should be interesting.

WH is playing in Mt. Pleasant. MP wins, TH wins, Nac, wins.

not comparing Nac to Marshall by any means but we can say the same thing for the mavericks. all three wins came against teams who have been less than Steller. I fully expected Marshall's record to be where it is at this point. Longview is usually sitting better than 2-2 but they played back to back brutal games.

Marshall's opp record 4-11

Nac's  opp record 7-7

To me, Marshall only had one weak opponent. Most district teams still lose to JT and Legacy imo. Especially JT. Legacy would have scored 50 or 60 but not sure their D would have done any better.
