Most programs with the same violations would have gotten a much stiffer sentence ....

Most programs do it with ease, this literally happens in every corner of Texas,  and if you say it doesn't you have to be blind.

I think the biggest reason North Shore didnt get harder is the coach who was caught had only been there 1.5 years, the coach took full responsibility for the violations and the two kids he attempted to recruit never enrolled at North Shore.

GPISD had a data driven presentation showing their program numbers, how many kids attended their MS, etc...the UIL commented on how well prepared they were....IMO there really was no evidence for a program wide-punishment for North Shore based on the hearing

Definitely hard to punish with the evidence given but what id didnt address is the fact that they start recruiting in middle school. We also see high profile recruits transferring there every summer.

How do you address recruiting in MS without evidence of recruiting in middle school..the UIL can't go off "hey we heard ya'll were recruiting, tell us about that"

Recruiting happens.  And it's a shame that it's what high school sports have become.  Although even in the 80's you'd hear about Permian boosters hiring people to get their kid to Odessa.  But it seems more widespread now.

Was talking to a coach in the Dallas area this winter that said when he was coaching in FWISD it was nothing new to see the football staff of a current football power and state champ show up and talk to kids at the FWISD junior high district track meets.  Next thing you know the studs from those FWISD junior highs are enrolled at that school the next year.

Cheating is only going to get worse now that we've let 7 on 7 become exactly like AAU basketball.  At least Texas has their high school 7 on 7 summer series/championship.  It's become a full blown disaster in other states.

Their are other recent stories out there about coaches that cheated, won state champs and parlayed that into better coaching jobs at the Texas High School level.  It's not that much unlike the NCAA football landscape lol.

I was working in a major school district. Had many high schools and the Athletic director had a some state titles and slid into a straight A.D. role. Good coach and good man. I remember he said "if you get caught recruiting you are going to get fired. But if you don't recruit you will probably get fired." No, he didn't say this in a huge meeting or anything this was in personal conversations with other HC's. But he is right. First, you have to do everything you can to keep your talent at your school especially if you are in a big metropolis area. This includes recruiting your own Jr. highs and recruiting your own dang H.S. Plus you never know, there could be talent walking the halls and you don't know it. Also, if there are sharks in the water and you do not go out and actively hunt you will starve. Unfortunately, recruiting is part of the business in some way shape or form. Because many of us have been on the losing end when a star athlete or athletes leave your school for a "better" school and when that happens you already know because of losses that season you might be looking for another job. It sucks because you wish it wasn't a part of the job.

Alto’s entire football program got punished for the actions of one or two people. The kids had nothing to do with the violation, just like North Shore.

The UIL’s justification was, in my interpretation, if the violation was committed by one or two people, then why punish the kids.

Yep, if I were Alto, I’d be raising some eyebrows cause they got hit much harder! IMHO!

Alto "got hit" for recruiting?

Hence hit harder, as North Shore just got hit with recruiting 🤣 what happened as an admin mistake turned to a coach ignoring it but the whole program punished harshly compared to NS

Now they need to go after all DISD schools doing the same thing

SOC is the only DISD school that's winning. I think DISD schools would be better if most of their kids were not being recruited.  Most of their kids end up at the good suburban programs
