Wow   The next 2 weeks are brutal but the Astros start the stretch with maybe the season's best performance with a 6-0 win over the Orioles and Corbin Burnes    What an impressive win to get to a 5.5gm lead.

Neris pitched a good inning, Abreu bounced back from his day before debacle and Hader was light out. Maybe Alverez can get that crick out of his neck for the Phillies series.

I was SO dead wrong about the Astros and glad I was.   How they have done this turnabout without Tucker, without a 1st baseman, and without half of the pitching staff is incredible.

On the other hand..........if I was a Mariner's fan I would finally give up for good.  The best pitching staff in baseball and you've blown a 10gm lead and are free-falling and now trail by 6gms.   Unbelievable

And Verlander says..."hold my beer"!!! Third terrible outing, time to send him packing like Abreu!!!

Verlander might get it back because he was on the DL for a long time but he could be washed up

Well, we drop another game to a sub .500 team and another chance to keep our separation  from Seattle...this is really getting old. I still think we are a .500 club at best and will probably win the division if we can manage to achieve that stellar record but as far as advancing in the playoffs I seriously doubt it. The chemistry seems to be just awful with this bunch...I thought for sure with Tucker returning the team would be fired up and playing hard but just the opposite seems to be happening. I think this team needs a therapist along with a new hitting coach!!! LOL!!

On another note, it is painfully obvious we don't practice bunting or practice fielding the bunt...I know it is a pride thing with major league managers to not bunt but how many extra inning games have we lost because we couldn't/didn't advance the runner to third with less than two away so we could score that runner with a fly ball, ground out. or passed ball...noooooo we have to swing for the fences and leave that runner at second!!!! I don't care for the new rule but if that is THE RULE then use it to your advantage!!!! Ok, I will get off my soap box for now...

Thank goodness we managed to win one game from the powerhouse Athletics!!! LOL!! Top 5 hitters in the lineup accounted for ZERO runs today...NIL...Nada!!!

Now it's time to root for the Rangers and pray that we can win a couple against the Angels!!!

Thank goodness we didn’t get swept. The offense hasn’t been good at all.  But in reality we probably sweep without a Pena error in game 1 and an Altuve error in game 2.     The routine plays that have been booted all year are maddening

Last nights game with Houston vs Dan Diego was one of the worst officiated games in my memory.  And not in the favor of either team.  Was absolutely awful

Definitely didn't stay up and watch it but man, I have heard the same thing from a lot of people on both sides!!

Well we laid an egg tonight...Framber pitched well but he would have had to throw a shutout to have a chance to win. Our starting rotation is looking pretty darn good at this point...with or with Verlander...if our hitters decide to be consistent we could make some noise in the playoffs.

Finally found a site that keeps up with all the "magic number" stats!!

Houston Astros Magic Numbers

  • To clinch the AL West: 7
  • To clinch a playoff spot: 7

The Astros will clinch the AL West with a combined total of seven wins and Mariners losses. Because they hold the tiebreaker over the Tigers, they will clinch a playoff berth with a combined total of seven wins and Tigers losses.

All the other teams and their numbers can be found here:

the announcers said 5 ....... and i believe that to be correct.   It is also what was reported after the game on twitter.

Sounds good to me!! I still have little faith in this bunch to "get hot" at the plate and make a run but at least our starting pitchers will keep it close. So there's always a chance!!

I want to keep winning for sure.  But after our start I said I would be ecstatic just to get into the playoffs.   We should win the division so I’m gonna be happy regardless

Truth!!! Man, Verlander got rocked again!! No way he is in the rotation in the playoffs!!
