JD Russell acting A.D.

Great guy. Good luck JD

Is he part of the family that has never left LK and has coached under every administration since the early 2000s?

I used to work with LK way back when I first started in my career and there were like 4 people from the same family tree coaching at LK and none of them were the AD/HFC

I will say this. If you wanted tough young men who will go out and give you 100% every single snap and win football games regardless of athletic ability then the wrong decision was made here because Jason Ferguson was put on earth to coach football. I don't like the man but he's probably the best football coach not named Surratt I've ever seen.

What a crap show. As a community member I want to know what has gone wrong in this hiring process, and how we are going to fix it. The last couple have been a disaster.

From my understanding, there was no process. Opened it for legal purposes but had a guy in mind that didn’t mesh well with the community.

That has become the norm with some of these small schools. They "think" they already know what is best and do not even have a real hiring process other than just for show.

My alma matter is not a football power by any means. They have had 4 different AD/HFCs in the last 15 years, and to my knowledge the last 3 were not even real hiring processes. They already knew who they were picking.

That’s a rock solid plan….. Pick a candidate with a possibly checkered past and not pay any attention to applicants that inquire interest in your community. 😂

I can tell you what the problem Its like a swinging pendulum.  First the buzz is that the program needs a coach to bring some discipline in to build a program on solid ground. then when they hire a man to do it some think the kids need more discipline but only the other kids not my own... Then they hire a coach who lets kids do what they want and it does not work. The school then lets that guy go. Then they find another discipline guy... It swings back and forth. The coaches dont get any backing from parents.  Until that changes it will continue to be a revolving door. Successful coaches have been in charge of that program. Two of the last three have won some games at several locations. not at LK though.

Shame on the board for letting parents get in their ears. Better start thinking about all the kids.

Burks New Head Coach by noon today

5 head coaches in 4 years

3 in under 48 hours

Going through one or two head coaches in four years ain't unprecedented.

Rare? Maybe.
Ill-advised? Certainly.
But it does happen.

Going through five head coaches in four years is a full-blown crisis.

Don't know if this will be a popular opinion or not, but if I was in charge/had a say at the lower level classification level, Ferguson would be my first call.  His teams (Shelbyville) were the most physical teams I've seen the last 10+ years. Aggresive/physical/attacking defense, slot-T offense that fired off the ball and mauled people.

So the coach was trying to implement some discipline and hold kids accountable and the higher ups were against it?  I’m confused as to what went on. Was Russell in and decided it was too much and backed out? The supt is going to try and do it now? This is terrible for those kids.
