My NFHS feed was glitching, but it sounds like a “play to the whistle” moment. The clip from Twitter looked like he was out and it wasn’t even close. The tag stopped his arm from touching the plate. And like the other poster said, the runner climbed back to the plate to touch it and they called him safe. Definitely missed that call. 2

Catcher was celebrating the 3rd out and runner crawled back to the plate. Tough life lesson for SH kids. Nothing is fair. That call forced extra inning and spent another SH pitcher. I still would have liked our senior getting to start the Championship game. Good game Corpus! Here is the play at the plate in question. I’m not posting this for any other reason than to show everyone who didn’t see it how the play unfolded. Even though it was pivotal in the bottom of the 6th, this play was not the only reason SH lost. Calallen just made more plays than SH when it counted. IMG_1711.MOV
WhoamI97539 Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 Good luck LE go get that Championship this year after being so close last year. I will be watching and rooting for you guys. We almost had us a LE and Spring Hill match up but it just wasn't meant to happen. LE definitely is playing great ball and determined to not let another one slip through their grasps thus go around.
Tatum_DirtyBird Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 Hate to break it to yall, but the runner is safe. He raised his arm and the catcher missed the tag. Or at least that’s how it appears when you slow the video down

The ump had a good view Edited June 6, 2024 by Acewell Added pictures

KirtFalcon Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 I have watched the video several times and from that angle you can't really tell if he was tagged out or not ....

Or at least that’s how it appears when you slow the video down Even if the runner successfully lifted his left arm above the tag (which I’ll admit is possible given the slow motion view), watch the runner’s left foot as the play continues. It changes path pretty sharply during the slide as it comes in contact with the catcher’s glove. I understand the umpire had 1 millisecond to make this call, but man this is a tough one.

WhoamI97539 Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 The call could have gone the other way also and have probably the same amount of opinions. The umpire called what he saw maybe next year the championship games will provide replay for the umpires.

Seeing the still shots from the media today made me feel a little better about it. It really was an incredible play by the Calallen base runner.

Yeah, watching the video and seeing the stills makes me believe the tag wasn’t made. It’s still possible the tag was made and the ump just couldn’t see it but still a great season for your boys.
WhoamI97539 Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Congratulations LE on the State Title well earned and deserved. 3

That’s awesome do Spring Hill to do that. Sounds like LE’s baseball program is the real deal, and should be a region 2 factor every year now.

SH will need to develop a couple pitchers in the off-season, but they have some talented players in the 9th & 10th grade classes. I could see a scenario with all three of these teams back in 2025 - LE, Calallen & SH.
