That wasn’t what I asked.  Ryan is a hard hitter and Longview just put them on the schedule. You make it sound like Longview only plays Pine tree and Marshall of the worlds .

@WP4L Brother, am I missing something!!!??? When did John King “JUST” put Denton Ryan on the schedule??? He’s talking about like going on 3 years ago maybe. Maybe he has some intel that everybody else doesn’t regarding Lobo football; especially being from Henderson. But, what do I know. Like, I was only born and raised a Lobo for 44 years now, played here and graduated from Longview High. So, I guess I should listen to him when it comes to this Lobo Football program. Let me formally apologize.

Classy Guy, you are Brother. But, John King (for whatever reason) is NOT trying to schedule you guys for a preseason. It would unequivocally make us better as a team, though. I’m definitely all for it. As the younger generation would say, “He AIN’T trying to catch that fade!” In his latter years, he’s ducking and dodging ALL smoke that he can. He’d put the Marshall Mavericks on the schedule 2-3 times straight rather than to put y’all on ONCE!

I mean come on now.

King is a lot of things, but he isn't scared to schedule hard games in preseason.

He has been burned in the past, many times, when trying to set up tougher non-district schedules.

And yes, he has used Lufkin/Tyler/Marshall has as crutch but it has been incredibly difficult to get games scheduled. I think you really believe that King can just call up anyone and schedule whomever he likes. It has to be a two way street.

Would a non-district series with Aledo be a blast? Of course. We'd all love it.

The Marshall thing is not entirely in his hands, and I think we should all just recognize that. We all want it to end. That's not even a question. Finally Marshall fans are seeing that too and have started to get on the end the series train. But there's still a majority of people that believe that series should never end, no matter what. And those that are in leadership are the ones making that decision. It brings in a ton of money (way less than ever before I'd venture to say, however), it's a quick/easy trip.

Personally I say just let it become a scrimmage. That's basically what it is now, except just on the record. But I fully believe it is not in King's hands to end that series.

Think he's talking about that debacle at The Star in 2021.

Since we are officially in different divisions. Yall might tell Coach King to send an invite. I bet Coach Jones respects LV enough to try and make it work.

I'd take a non district game vs aledo at the star so no weather excuses ,we lose won't be as bad if were a playoff game would make us better, then slapping around marshall yearly doesn't help us helps em more then does us.

I think there's a decent chance Longview gets in a 7-team district....4 non-district games

If you assume Marshall is one, and Lufkin/Tyler is one....

The 4th game will be just whoever else is in a 7team district and willing to play Longview..

I think a good game might be against a team like North Crowley.....

Week 1 is typically the time to beat Longview lol

Crazy how that works, isn't it? Think about losing to Denton Ryan 40-7 in week 1 before almost beating them in the playoffs 3 months later. Or losing to Lufkin 44-14 before beating them 43-42 in the playoffs in 14. Even the mighty 2018 team had to come back from down 7 in the 4th quarter to beat Lufkin in Week 1.

And when Longview DOES win nicely in week 1 (ala against Allen in 2009), we were down like 17-0 at half...

There is certainly a pattern there.

Not automatically saying we win, but yeah...I'd like to see what we do those two years with healthy Tyler McCray and Carey Fortson. Neither were healthy for either state game with ankle injuries.

An injury that people forget about in 2009 was FB Keylan Shaw. He was on a ROLL that year before his knee injury against Hallsville put him down for the year.

How'd everyone look?

Defense looks scary. RBs look greedy.
O-line is raw, but talented.
Passing needs work.
Special teams: meh.

So, a typical spring for Lobo football.   :)
