Where are the good folks from Timpson? From State Champions to not a game day thread for the opening week? What’s going on? Was it only the graduating senior parents who posted?

Come on back! Y’all have a 17-game winning streak going! It’s more fun when the Bear fans are around. Y’all have been ruling Smoaky the last 4 years or so. I know y’all are having Bussey & Co. withdrawals but life goes on.

Terry Bussey is a generational talent. But that class was LOADED. They graduated a lot of really good players, and essentially started from scratch with a new coaching staff. I do expect them to win, and win a lot. But it may take a few games for the chemistry of everything to come together.

Agree! I was just wondering why no Timpson folks are participating on Smoaky….or not like they have been. Miss ‘em.

I don’t think they are starting from scratch though. Gandy has been there a long time and those guys playing this year got more playing time with all those TONS of extra games they’ve had the last several seasons. And didn’t their JV win district? Their program is in a much better place now than it was before Therwhanger got there. It’s not really like Cayuga where you had the Shead and Kennedy kids come through and have two good seasons and then you’re back to where you were before they blazed onto the scene for a couple years. I think Timpson built something and the PROGRAM will be ok with the consistency of the man who served under great leadership. But I do agree about the generational talent and Mr. Texas Football. You don’t replace that. There is a culture now that is in place that they will have to work to sustain. But IT’S THERE.

Just need time to find the rhythm with lots of sophomores stepping up to fill the gaps.  JV did win district last year. Gandy will keep things rolling!

HE’S ALIVE!! Ok @Bear9T1, YOU or one of your other peeps are gonna have to pick up the slack and give those boys a thread! Defending champs need one! I’ll vote in the poll each week.

You guys have a great thing going. Embrace the post Bussey years and rock and roll with the next generation. Next man up mentality and you have a great group of young up and comers with those district champ JV guys. Growing pains but you’ll get through it.

The last few years have been fun! Always enjoy the Bear fans engaging. Y’all did something really special and beat some dang good 3A teams on the way to doing it. I’ve enjoyed the ride. Keep it going….and do the thread.

Oh I definitely agree that Patrick will do a great job. It’s in his blood. He also brought in a great staff. I just think it will take a few weeks of working together in game situations for the staff to mesh together and the kids that are getting significant playing time under the Friday night lights to have the game slow down for them.

Loveladys Jv killed timpson in last years scrimmage. We have a lot of shoes to fill too had a big senior class.  So I hope it’s a good game this week.

Lovelady’s JV killed everyone last year, including ours! lol That was a salty group and there were about 75 of them it seemed. lol I think we had 12 or 13 at the time. I didn’t know Lovelady and Timpson JVs played. Was it a pickup game?

JJ Garner and Timpson without Terry destroyed us (Beckville) last year. JJ is still there right? If so he is next level talent also. New coach is a Gundy from Joaquin bloodline correct?  IMO except for a few years in the early 90s, Gundy made Joaquin into a very good program that is still going. I have money Ti.pson will be just fine.

That or they are only here for a season of life….while their kids are playing, and then they move on. You know….the ones who get season tickets, work in the concession stand, do all THE STUFF and then they are outta here when their kids have graduated. Really nothing wrong with that; I get it. You’ll learn this when your kids are old enough…..it’s a DIFFERENT BALLGAME and feeling when you have someone on that field. But you, like me, will probably keep coming back because you’re kind of a super fan (or nut! lol) and will love and support your team from start to finish. And by that I mean  LIFE. I was a crazed fan before my son came through and played and I’ll likely be one (maybe not as crazed) but still here enjoying the best game around! When you bleed your school colors, it’s just different.

I had a sophomore thrown into the fire the year that 19 Alto seniors and almost all starters graduated. IT WAS A TOUGH YEAR to say the least. His group had won district 7, 8, and JV and BOOM…..literally 12 sophomores came in vs THE WORLD. We were 0-8 before we finished with 2 wins. Man, that year was tough on us not only physically but MENTALLY.  So growing pains are real.

JJ is still there and is the starting QB. Gandy has been on staff for a very long time. His dad was at Joaquin for years. Solid.

CC played either the jv or 8th grade lovelady team last year ..  it was a last minute deal i believe, needed a game and it got set up,  it was a dang good game !   And we scrimmaged lovelady a few weeks ago ,  the live QT was awesome!  It was 14 to 14 ..  lovelady kicked a field goal for the last play to win , would’ve been blocked in a real game .. the snap was messed up bad lol but it was definitely a good scrimmage to get prepared for week 1!

JJ is really good but he is 9 months into a 24 month injury. For full recovery anyway. 

Bussey was less than 100% last year as well as he was only 7 months out from knee surgery during football season. He was still really good, but not Jr year good. In my opinion it's the main reason they won state because they were forced to help him out rather than rely on him.

And help they did!!! For 2a that team was STACKED!! One of the most talented small school teams of all time. 

By the end they had lost all of their D1 recruits other than TB forcing them to utilize ALL of their talent therefore allowing them to win it all. 

IMHO they could have won 3 state championships had they used the same approach. 

The current team will be respectable. They will compete for the district, but will most likely make a 2nd or 3rd round exit in the playoffs. 

I think they have Westwood next week? They are very similar to a legit top 10 2a team. It will be a good representation of where Timpson is. I'm predicting Westwood wins big. I'm not being a hater at all. I love small school ball and will forever be fond of all the Shelby county teams. Just stating my opinion.
