Nah. I have always thought a lot of talent has gone through Lufkin. That's not their issue lol. Plus, no game is guaranteed when it's an old East Texas rivalry. With Longview losing so many players, it wouldn't surprise me if Lufkin wins and we struggle, especially early in the season.

I was only laughing at the idea that 7 on 7 was indicative of anything.

I don't think 7 on 7 translates to real football but I do think you can take pieces from it like WRs route running, separation, and pass cathing abilities. Is the QB making the right read. Is he throwing catchable balls. Things that won't get any easier when the pads come on. Which Longview has a real good PA pass game. That won't show up in 7 on 7. Neither will the physicality of a team like Longview. It's more to it than 7 on 7 why I think they have a chance to beat Longview. I've seen the work first hand they put in. My son and his friends basically lived at the indoor this summer. To the point the coaches were like hey you guys need to take a break. It's going to be an emotional game for them next week. I have the upmost respect for the Lobos but Longview better come ready to play. These kids are locked in and they got this one circled. They gonna be ready to play is all I'm saying.

Sounds like it'll be a good one. I'm looking forward to this game getting competitive again.

I mean, there is a pattern of Longview starting slow under King just about every season.

You mentioning that Lufkin one year beat Longview bad and then Longview beat them in the playoffs when it mattered only speaks to the point that Longview starts seasons slowly.

Yep, exactly. And it's not the only time. Opening week in 2007, loss to Lufkin. But the 2nd time, we won.

It is well documented that Longview is almost always flat during the first two weeks....but tend to pick it up around Week 3-4.

It's part of the reason why I don't see this game being the blowout that it has been lately.

Longview Week 1 results since 2004:

2004:  W vs Marshall, 40-15 (we were down 15-10 at half)

2005:  W vs Marshall, 28-16 (a win, but a flat one)

2006: L vs West Monroe, 19-15

2007:  L vs Lufkin, 16-13 (but won the 2nd matchup)

2008:  L vs Allen,  21-7

2009:  W vs Allen,  28-25 (was down 17-0 at half)

2010:  W vs Marshall,  31-9 (game was 10-9 at half)

2011:  W vs Marshall,  30-0 (game was 10-0 at half)

2012:  L vs Coppell,  41-8

2013:  L vs Coppell, 32-24

2014:  L vs Lufkin,  44-14 (but won the 2nd matchup)

2015:  W vs Lufkin, 21-20 (blocked point after sealed the deal)

2016:  L vs Lufkin,  35-24

2017:  W vs Lufkin, 35-16 (was 14-7 at half)

2018: W vs Lufkin,  35-28 (was down at half, 14-10)

2019:  W vs Lufkin, 24-21

2020: L vs Temple,  40-13

2021:  L vs Denton Ryan,  40-7 (2nd matchup was 37-33 though)

2022:  W vs McKinney Boyd,  36-10

2023:  L vs McKinney,  23-21

2024: ??? vs Lufkin

So, 10-10. .500 in those 20 seasons in opening week. 4 of those wins came against Marshall. And in almost all of those wins, game was either tight at half or we were down.

We're absolutely awful Wk 1.

Damn. Numbers don't lie. Since you actually showed us the results. We now have a better understanding of how Longview actually does start out slow.

Even the 36-10 win over Boyd didn’t look all that great.. we just had them totally out matched lol

Yep.

Not a single win we've had Week 1 is impressive, unless you want to count 2009 comeback against Allen. But again, we were down 17-0 at half.

2018 team is our best ever. Came out flat against Lufkin opening week.

It's just how we are. But we do get better as the season progresses.. that's what makes Longview so great.

Dang. Man is bringing receipts lol! Not to be unfair to Marshall, in 04 and 05, they went to state and were solid teams.

Anyone watch Longview's scrimmage last night? Yikes. I hope that's not a sign of things to come for the season. I realize that starting slow is no big surprise, but dang. There's usually SOMETHING positive to take away from a scrimmage. I didn't see a single strong point on the field. Not. One.

Looked like a typical Longview-TH scrimmage to me.

Agree with this…I am usually the pessimist but thought it was pretty vanilla.  An aggressive TH in the live portion showed some stuff to work on but nothing earth shattering to me

It was typical lol. Longview was vanilla and didn’t show much and T high treated it like a state championship. Only thing that bothers me is that we again fail to choose the right quarterback.

I can see Longview winning it, 24-14 type of game.

Scrimmages are behind us, I'll stick with this prediction.

Gametyme, Gametyme, wherefore art thou Gametyme? We need a explanation.

Listen as long as Johnson is not hurt we will be ok next week. Zion or Big Hoop did not play at all during the live portion and the defense still played well despite our backup QB turning it over 4 times. I'm not worried at all. Lufkin with a heathy Johnson is gonna beat Longview next week at Abe.

That's what I'm talking about. I love the fact you are keeping the same energy.

The QB going down is concerning but I imagine Gavin will play QB next week if needed. I can live with that. I expect both offenses to struggle. Big Hoop and Zion both will play next week too. That defense gonna be ready to go I promise you.

I kinda disagree with you there on the Texas High perspective.  Whether you believe it or not the Tigers pride themselves on not being intimidated by a superior team. Yes we know you guys are better. Yes we gauge ourselves against you.  Believe me we know it is just a scrimmage.  But we learned about 8 years ago what you guys can do to us. We are going to give you our best shot every time. It isn't our Super Bowl believe me.

I agree. I just thought two solid programs going at each other. I will say that TH did take it to another level in the live portion and was glad for it. It seems they wanted to test their offense and they did. Gave us some great things to work on. Perfect school for us to scrimmage due to the aggressive play style and coaching….solid athletes and solid program.
