HearEmaGrowlin
There are certain years Carthage would fare better much like the age old debate of if Carthage can beat Longview. Only sometimes not every year, no. Like last year, we had a good team, but not one of our top tier teams ever. It’s a fun discussion and us Bulldog fans should be very flattered to have folks genuinely believe our team can punch well above its weight class. Sometimes we can and we just need to continue to focus on doing our best within our classification. Go Dawgs! Those are my top 3 I agree with you the ones you listed are the ones that could do something very special even in the upper classifications, but that’s only three of our nine state championship teams. So, admittedly, even when we’ve won 4A-D1/D2 that does NOT mean we’d have won a higher classification. Now, 2019 and 2022 were also super tough teams. Cuff his senior year at QB was just awesome and I think he, Si or Capps had the strongest arms of all the state champion quarterbacks we’ve had. It’s fun to think about that, but you have to be objective and honest. Only sometimes could we punch that much above our weight class, and a ton of it is because of our coaching staff. We have lots of talented players and equally talented coaches. We’ve been very fortunate to have the coaches and players we’ve had over the years. There are classifications for a reason. Agreed! 2019 was the other one I might add to the list. So I'm clear, I just think these teams could at least compete above class. Winning it all, in any classification, is super tough. It has been the perfect storm from our opponents perspective. There's probably a lot of games we would've lost but not for the coaching staff, and that that staff had those special players to work with has produced the results we've seen. We've also been lucky some, not so lucky others. However you look at it, HISTORIC RUN. To the Gilmer Buckeyes: We're coming for what's ours!

This is why we have classifications. I'm sure there's a 1 or 2A program out there that would say the same about taking on the Mighty Carthage Bulldogs! Defensive line depth(fresh legs) and lack of elite speed in the secondary would normally be where a Carthage, a Gilmer, a P G will show weakness in 5A Div. 1 when trying to win it all. In 6A, the above plus the need for one or two elite linemen.

Hicks who was an absolute speed demon went to Oklahoma State on a track scholarship, made La Vega look like they were running in sand. Even the DeSoto’s, etc don’t have guys who run like Hicks and definitely not every year. But, I do agree with the gist of what you’re saying. Last year, our secondary team speed wasn’t great, not bad just not as good as we’ve had before.

Moochie ran 10.7 as his best, I believe. Most every year, Desoto will have several guys on their team who can run that or better. And a defensive secondary normally consists or at least 4 guys, not just one.
