That equals "8".

if we are gonna count Surratt's state title as an OC, I think its fair to count Aledo's titles where Buchanan was  the AD of the program he built

If you’re counting SS total rings versus Buchanan total rings Buchanan leads, 11-10.

As HC only SS leads, 9-8.

I am not counting any title for assistants or administrators. HC gets the wins and the losses.

I see Lions7000 on more Carthage threads than Hendo 👀 I think he's actually a Dawg fan, just doesn't want to admit it yet 🤣

I wouldn't go so far as to call him a fan,  but he's definitely watched more Bulldog football than Lion football the last 10+ years! 😂

If you're going to count Buchanan's AD rings then go ahead and count Surratts 9 AD rings and 9 HC rings for a total of 18 rings. There is a reason he is called "Lord of the Rings"

As good as Surratt is, Buchanan is resume wise, his equal, he's got 8 rings as a head coach, 3 others as an AD of the program he built...not a math guy but that equals 11 rings

Is Buc really "equal" to Surratt?

HC Championships Surratt 9 > Buc 8

AD Championships Surratt 9 > Buc 3

HC/AD Total Rings Surratt 18 > Buc 11

Coaching Record

Buc (25 seasons) 281-58-3  (.821%) Playoff Record 81-14 (.852%) 15 District Championships - 8 State Champs

Surratt (17 seasons +) 218-30-0 (.879%).  Playoff Record 75-8 (.903%)  15 District Championships -  9 State Champs

Surratt is statistically better in EVERY single category. Plus did more in less seasons.

Buc retires then Wood keeps winning. Buc comes back and keeps winning. Buc and Wood retire and Jones wins a ring. Is it the coach or is it the system?Orrrrrrrrrrrr......is it the endless D1 talent that "transfers" or "moves" into Aledo ISD. Very very convenient when your starting QB gets injured and low and behold a D1 QB just happens to "move' into the district from California (eye roll)!!!

Lion I can order you a special made Bull Dawg sweat shirt if you would like.

Good burning for fires goes good with longhorn gear as well. Makes no difference in the bulldogs all of it burns well!

Illustrious post, a tad hostile, but extremely informative.

Yes, agree, their coaches have been and are fantastic; they’re no Surratt, no one is.  And folks can eye roll if they want, but way, way, way more often than not when it’s all on the line he’s going to win.

I’d like fans of other schools, certain fans of one school in particular (not Aledo), to be totally honest with themselves and answer if the state championship were on the line would they rather have their current coach or Scott Surratt on their side.

That's what makes Carthage so hard to beat, is that truly Carthage has to "beat" themselves for opponents to win. Rarely, rarely, rarely can someone just lineup and beat them straight up

Only time I have seen it with my own eyes was 2015 vs La Vega in the semis.

As bad as I hate to admit it, China Spring  with Major at QB beat my Dawgs. They outplayed us. They went on to beat Gilmer in the state championship.
our defense was outstanding but our offense was very young.

But Carthage competed with CS in that respectable loss.  LV left zero doubt in 2015.

Oh yes, we were truly beaten that night too.

Far and few in between. Cherish the moments and it’s ok to cry.
