Great job by them, good clean, hard fought game. I'm not sure I recall even seeing any open receivers. Their D was suffocating. Gotta give credit where credit's due.

Didn't Carthage connect on several passes on their second TD drive? I recall thinking that Surratt & Co. had it figured out.

I think there were only about five times our receiver was open for him to throw to. Not saying Jett can’t improve, of course he can, but everyone involved in the passing game has room for improvement. Fumble on kickoff and 4 interceptions for 5 turnovers is what one newspaper had.

Total package defense. 2 of our starting 3 D-lineman played on the O-line last night for the first time ever. Almost every snap. A lot of our skill players went both ways..... Sanders, Towns, Graves, Watters... which explains why we had so many guys cramping up in the 2nd half. We won't have to do that against every team on our schedule, but when you play Carthage you put your best players on the field and let them empty their tanks. They did that.

Kilgore Defense was outstanding on both run and pass defense. I doubt my Dawgs play another defense that good the rest of the year.

He had an ankle sprang but the Kilgore DB’S were like blanket. It was hard for him to push off on his throws. But again that defense was relentless.

Lambo
I'm probably about to upset some people. Scott Surratt has won 9 State Championships at Carthage. Had Carthage made the wrong hire back in 2007 they would have exactly zero State Championships. How do I know this? How many did they have before he got there with the same genetics? This talent has ALWAYS been in Carthage why hadn't they won a Ring before 08? This is the man yall talk down on when he loses the first home game he's lost IN 8 YEARS?! The seniors where in 4th grade the last time the Dawgs lost at home. But we're gonna talk bad about the man... One day, and probably not long from now he's gonna leave yall and yall will realize why everyone in the state wants that man on their sideline.

Yesterday, I briefly attended a Labor Day Weekend lunch (not in Carthage), and out of nowhere the owner of the home we were at said Surratt needs to pull Jett, because he’s not good and not athletic at all. The knee jerk negative reaction some folks have is amazing. Jett had a very strong first season as the varsity starter last year. Kilgore forced multiple interceptions last season and this season, they are very good defensively and yes, Jett’s ankle was hurt and his shoulder isn’t quite right. However, Jett knows the offense well and gives us the best chance to win. You also don’t want to send any backup out there for his first start against a team like Kilgore. Kilgore is a strong team and beat us fair and square. I think our backup QB could do well and he is a really good athlete I just wouldn’t have thrown him to the wolves either. It was the first game of the year, and a great contest between two teams who are going to be strong contenders to win state. Carthage will be just fine, and yes, we will lean on KJ. People always want to act like SS suddenly now only cares about padding his son’s and nephew’s stats. Guarantee that is inaccurate. I think people need to understand Kilgore did a fine job of holding KJ in check for the most part. Now, I would’ve run KJ a bit more too, but this is pre-district and SS has always passed a ton in pre-district no matter who the QB is at the time. We know what we have in KJ, a stud, but we have a nearly completely new receiving corp and they need reps. What better opportunity to put them through their paces than against arguably the best secondary in 4A? The day Surratt leaves will be a very sad day in Carthage, and anyone who thinks otherwise just isn’t very smart. Striving for 10! Go Dawgs!!!!!!!!!!
