I'm surprised.  Joaquin and Shelbyville with wins that I didn't expect.  This district is going to be very interesting this year.  After tonight's games, I don't see a clear favorite!

Ok Trueblue’s thoughts: while eating my pregame chicken strips with Ram Sauce, I was able to watch both teams come out on the field to do specialty drills. One thing that stood out to me was the size difference. Frankston has some lean, athletic looking kids that obviously spend a lot of time in the weight room. Joaquin has some of those kids too, but we also have some kids that made me guard my chicken strips when they walked by. The Cummings brothers go 290-300 pounds each. They also have an older brother that graduated in 2021 and a baby brother that is a freshman, and they are all that big. God bless their Mama’s grocery bill. None of our linemen are what you would call small. As this game wore on, those big boys were able to start leaning on the Indians pretty hard at the line of scrimmage, and this created huge holes between the tackles. FB Elijah Hardison probably had well over 200 yards on the ground with 3 TDs. Once the Ram defense was able to finally get a couple of stops, it was lights out for the Tribe. I do think Frankston is a pretty solid football team, but Joaquin is a bad matchup for them. Our offense is a nightmare to stop for a group of kids that aren’t used to seeing it. I feel like they will be fine vs most of the spread teams they play. We have to get better on defense. We’re not going to have the advantage in the trenches against everyone we play, so we are going to have to come up with more stops. We are really young at CB, and the three kids that rotate are also below average height. They had great coverage on a couple of plays, but Frankston was able to put the ball where his taller receivers were the only ones that could get it. Those kids are sophomores and will only get better with more playing time. Once we got up two scores late in the game, he started trying to force the ball into tight coverage and we were able to get a couple of picks. It was a fun game, but one of those per year is enough for this old man.

Clean up the penalties and play a little meaner on the defensive line and we're gonna be nasty. Congratulations Jared Jones on that first W. Go Rams.

I would say more than the D Line.  I didn’t see much speed from Frankston and they still put up 44 points. Offense looks better than last year though.

A couple of things that I failed to mention in my weekly “trueblue’s thoughts” post: I was really happy with the addition of a functional passing game to the offense. I believe QB Justin Brown finished like 4-8 with one TD and no interceptions for a total of about 100 yards, give or take. No, those aren’t Mike Leach Air Raid offense numbers, but they don’t need to be. The message is clear: go ahead and load the box. Show us that 10 man front. We can throw the ball short and move the sticks, or if we catch your safeties coming downhill to stop the run, we can throw it deep to one of our speed guys and burn you. If we can keep people honest, they are going to have great difficulty stopping the run.

For the first time that I can remember we don't look lost when the qb is looking to throw the ball.

Frankston is loaded…. Size and speed and depth….Just a  Bad matchup for them early in tje season….Ram size wore down the Indians in the 2nd half and they had to be perfect to keep up with a potent Ram offense. I predict Frankston will be in the mix for the championship of their respective region. Joaquin just needs to keep chopping wood and building on the efforts of last night and success will take care of itself.
