Pine Tree Pirates at Gilmer Buckeyes at 7:30

Recommended Posts

Didn't see a thread on this game so here you go. If there is already one that I missed. Just disregard this one.

Pine Tree is an improved team and has given the Buckeyes some pretty good games in the past......and have absolutely gotten blown out also.

Big questions for the Buckeyes on offense are: who will take over running the ball for Gilmer and how will McCown look at QB.

Not sure if Tennison is even suiting up for this game, so it may be that McCown all the way.

I just hope like hell that we don't see a different QB every 2 series like we did in the dreadful 2018 season.

Big question for the Buckeyes on defense are: who will pick up the slack at linebacker and how many points can the Buckeyes give up and still win like last season.

Hopefully the rain holds off and we get a good dry game so both teams can sort out what they got.

hamstring,if he plays tonight it will be like 2014 with blake lynch all season

Some sources say that Brendan Webb won’t play tonight because he’s injured but I guess we will have to see at game time

Did Gilmer have a bunch out with injuries or what? Just saw the score and was shocked. Not knocking PT but I haven't watched Gilmer since last year and thought they'd start out strong this season.

My understanding is Tennison was out and McCown did not look good. PT turned up the defense in 2nd half but I flipped between several games and McCown did not look good when I saw him. But big deal, it's game 1 and truly means little.

Ok, now for a few quick observations:

1. One Difference in the game was special teams.  PT ran back a punt to the 3, and had great kickoff returns throughout the game.  Gilmer also botched 2 extra points.

2. Gilmer offense was very disjointed.  Passing game looked good when they pushed the ball down the field, but they relied too heavily on screens that PT figured out how to defend by halftime.  And Gilmer could never get the running game really going.

3. I don’t know if Gilmer plans to play McCown all season as the starting quarterback.  It is hard for me to believe that the returning quarterback on a state championship team would be replaced. Long-term, it might work out, but historically Gilmer has been better with a dual threat quarterback.

4. I thought the defense for Gilmer played well tonight. One big breakdown in the fourth quarter cost them, but they held the PT offense on multiple occasions deep inside their own territory.

5. Hats off to PT. They made great halftime adjustments and played really well.

Gilmore will have to find its rhythm on offense. They have plenty of good receivers, but it may take them a while from transitioning from my primarily running team to a passing team. And they may take a few lumps along the way.

What happened to Gilmer?

Jacksonville is what happened to Gilmer.

Tennison was not out. He played a grand total of 3 snaps on offense and played maybe half the game at corner on defense. He stood by himself on the sideline all night and seemed to not be very happy about the situation.

Jacksonville has a very strong arm and his mechanics are very good. Just not accurate and isn't mobile. Gilmer has never done well and never won a State Championship with a one dimensional QB.

Gilmer Defense played a good game.

LOTS of players from both teams were cramping and had various injuries, so hopefully everyone will be alright and nothing will be too serious for either team.

Good Job goes to Pine Tree. They are improved, and the kids played tough the entire game. They have a very good kicking game and I like their QB.  Also they had one player, #41, who is built like a fire hydrant and plays through the whistle every down. I would take him on my team in a heartbeat.

Next week in Chappel Hill is going to be a long night for Gilmer if Jacksonville plays the entire game at QB.

That explains a lot and true on week 1 games. Usually pretty sloppy.

Just now, PT Playoffs said:

He played, bout 40 snap most on defense and ran the ball one time for about 5 yards

Why wasn’t he under center? That makes no sense. They just won a championship. Just doesn’t add up
