Rodney Southern and Claud Mathis are both amongst the top coaches in the state.  They are both winless against Longview.  Alvarez was one of the winningest coaches in TXHSF and he never beat them.

At the end of the day..... Longview is a school with 800+ more students than MHS.  And a program that is currently at a performative and talent level which NO ONE IN EAST TEXAS can even come close to.  NO ONE.

Just look at their record Vs. Marshall, Lufkin, Tyler, Legacy, Texas High, Sulphur Springs, Pine Tree, Jacksonville, Whitehouse, Hallsville, Mount Pleasant the last 20 years.  Blowout after blowout after blowout.  And if they actually have a close game, they generally find ways to win.

People want to get bent out of shape about how Longview fans view their opponents....especially ETX opponents.... just look at their record.  They walk the walk so they are allowed to talk to talk.

But smack talking a team we're 1-23 against since Pleistocene era makes ZERO sense.

I stress that coaching can only take you so far. At the end of the day it's gonna come down to the Jimmy's and the Joe's.

That's what I said "Coaching is only 40% the rest of the win is up to the Kids on the field"

I agree. That’s why I also said:

The stats don’t lie.

By chance does Marshall stream sub Varsity doubt it huh

The radio station doesn’t.  But MISD streamed the home sub varsity games on YouTube last year.  I assume they will this year too.

Last time I counted helmets in the huddle, there was 11 players on the team. two guys are not going to shut down the Mavs offence this time...

You think Longview has two guys on defense?

Bless your heart.

If Brooks were a few inches taller he would have 40+ offers.  He looks like he's athletic enough to play S at the D1 level. Really blown away and I agree running at Reese probably isn't a great choice either lol

Brooks dad is Tracy Brooks, a Lobo legend LB from the 1997-1998 teams that played D1 ball.

Kason has a little brother, LB Kaleb Brooks. He's apart of a very special Lobo 2029 class. Plays for Foster MS.

I'm thinking he's probably a troll and not even from Marshall.  Just trying to stir up Lobo fans.

No one takes 22 years of beatdowns and talks smack.

I'm not saying the Mavs don't have talent.  I'm not saying we can't have an outstanding regular season.  Not saying we can't have a great playoff run.

In the long run, and historically the last 20 years, we can have a FANTASTIC season no matter what happens in this game.

But until we actually play Longview tough..... and actually win a few games against them..... maybe sit down and keep quiet.

Longview Vs. ETX

Marshall: (2-22) since 2000- currently currently 8 in a row
Tyler (4-18) since 2000- currently 7 in a row
Lufkin (14-16) since 2000-  (5-16) since 2007- currently 8 in a row
Legacy (1-20) since 2002- currently 19 in a row
Texas High (0-4) in the 2000's- currently 11 in a row (not active)
Nacogdoches (0-2) in the 2000's currently 9 in a row (not active)
Pine Tree (2-10) all time- (0-4) in the 2000's- currently 5 in a row ( not active)
Mount Pleasant (0-4) in the 2000's (not active)
Jacksonville (0-1) in 2008
Sulphur Springs (0-4) in the 2000's
Hallsville (0-4) in the 2000's
Whitehouse (0-1) in 2009

You don't have to be a calculus professor to see that Longview has DOMINATED East Texas 5A/6A for at least a decade.... and really....TWO decades.

Not one single team has a winning record.  Most of them are on pretty long losing streaks.

And most of those games..... are blowouts.

It's mind boggling really.

Well, you only mentioned two guys... I took that to mean you thought you only needed two guys to beat the Mavericks on account of you're thinking that the Mavs were so easy to beat.  Sometimes the Lobos make it look that way,,, that doesn't mean it will always be so...

By the way I'll take a heart blessing anytime , even from a Lobo Fan,,, Thank You!!!

You’ve beaten us 24 times in the last 92 years but do go on…

yeah not to also include all the district championships they've won even in the Dallas area districts they have been apart of. That's why it baffles my mind when i see some who say king needs to go. we've seen what has happened to programs once a great coach either left or has hung up the whistle. I know it's not all Longview fans but some need to appreciate what they have. Longview is a top notch program.

I 100% Agree. I will never understand the fire Coach King talk.

If Marshall was to beat the Lobos, I feel that this is the year for it to happen. Lobos looked down this year. Yes they have talent, but it isn't as overwhelming as usual. Marshall looked pretty good against a struggling Cujo. Can't wait to come and watch this one!

man the thing about Longview is they normally look bad in week 1. They always get better as the season goes on.

If we would’ve  held on to the ball we beat lufkin no less than 28-3. hopefully fumbling like that isn’t an issue all season or yes it will be a down season for Longview standards.

Lol.. Stop making it sound like that game was only 7-3 because of what Longview did rather than what Lufkin done. Y’all always do that. We forced every single one of those turnovers. We sacked the QB from the blind side on one fumble, on another your RB wasn’t even on the ground we just ripped the ball right out of his hands and was running the other way with it, on the long pass early in the game our defender chased him down from behind and swatted right at the ball as he’s taught and knocked it out. It wasn’t fluke fumbling from a careless lobo player. I’ve seen y’all do that before, Friday that was not the case except  on the one y’all actually picked up and scored on right before half. Lufkin had no QB and our wide receivers that had to rotate the position ended up throwing 2 int’s on the night. So, we only finished +1 in the turnover category. Lufkin defense had everything to do with the 7 points y’all put up, as did the lobo defense with the 3 rinky dink points we scored. It was a great defensive game. Our defense played more minutes than yalls because we couldn’t even muster a first down most of the night. Do I consider us lucky to have only lost 7-3? Nope. Our defense kept us in that game over and over and that was no fluke. Several lobo drives were 3 and out. Y’all could’ve put up 3 more on one drive but got arrogant and thought the 4th & 2 would be an easy conversion. But nope. We shut that down too. Again, not knocking Longview at all, y’all are the better program and I understand aren’t as strong as the last few years offensively and that played to our advantage but football is always “would’ve”, “could’ve”, “should’ve”. Good luck against Marshall and the rest of the season.

To be fair, at the very least, the game should’ve been 10-0. Why we went for it on 4th down deep in Lp’s territory is beyond me. And of course Lp’s one field goal came on a fifth down play.

Sounds fair to me. Lobos finally felt sorry and started giving fellow East Texas opponents 5 downs.
