Are districts 7 and 9 in 4A D1 the most competitive in the state?

Recommended Posts

Four of the preseason top ten teams and eight of the top twenty-five in 4A Division 1 came from these districts, according to Dave Campbell’s magazine. I imagine Paris and Sulphur Springs aren’t far outside the top twenty-five either, and most of the teams really showed up last night.

District 7

Celina: 49-30 over Bellville

Panther Creek: 55-10 over Lake Worth

Lake Dallas: 49-0 over Denton

Aubrey: 33-31 over Sunnyvale

Sulphur Springs: 68-17 over Poteet

Paris: 31-7 over Sanger

District 9

Chapel Hill: 56-20 over Jasper

Kilgore: 20-15 over Carthage

Lindale: 35-27 over Hallsville

Pine Tree: 22-15 over Gilmer

In most districts, four playoff spots can be a stretch, but in these two, four or more teams are truly deserving

  • squidward tortellini changed the title to Are districts 7 and 9 in 4A D1 the most competitive in the state?

Here are MaxPreps rankings for 7-4A:

#2 Celina

#6 Panther Creek

#9 Sulphur Springs

#12 Aubrey

#21 Paris

#22 Lake Dallas

So yeah, district should be fun.  Only four of those six will be in the playoffs.  Lake Dallas should probably be ranked higher than what they have them.

At Sulphur Springs, this is by far our best team since the state championship team of 08.  We feel like we've got the talent to compete with anybody in the state in 4A.

I'll take it a step further. Unless it's SVIlle, the state champion is coming out of the 1 of those 2 districts.

I don’t think you’re going out too far on a limb saying that. If you remove those two districts from the equation + Stephenville, I’m not sure who else is even in the conversation for a state championship. Maybe Davenport??  I can’t see Brownwood getting past Stephenville.

I agree, I would put Davenport, BC and LBJ in a tier below. Truth be told, BC has a slight chance to become a dark horse and move up into the elite group, and they'll be aided by a weak R4 that gives an easier path to state semis. 1 game, anything can happen. But they'd have to play the game of their life to make it to state.

Yeah, I don't think a sensible argument could be made against these districts being far-and-away the best two districts.

Apart from Stephenville, you could argue the rest of the top 10 should be pretty much the top four/five teams from these two districts (Stephenville, Kilgore, CH, Panther Creek, Celina, etc.). When it gets to the postseason, I'd be shocked if we don't see an All District 7 Region II final AND an All District 9 Region III final.

Both those regions will be brutal, but lots of fun for fans.

I think the state champion comes from one of these two districts.

Could be wrong but I think they did and saw they're playing a 3A team this week?

They did move up to 5A, and yes, they are playing Gunter (3A Div. II). Big gap there, obviously.

Gunter is an elite 3A program. They’ll stay competitive come Friday. But I think the final score will show the chasm that exists between 3A Div. II and 5A Div. II.

Looks like Iowa Colony's gone too. Who are the next set of new school's just passing through 4A that we need to worry about?

Fort Bend Crawford is in year one, they got a really nice win last week over a 6A Ft Bend Clements...I imagine next year they will be a problem

I would think Panther Creek and Davenport are both new suburban schools that are only temporarily in 4A.

You look at the success of Panther Creek, Davenport, and Canyon West Plains and it's hard to believe how schools that didn't exist a couple of years ago can immediately become powerhouses in 4A.

Panther Creek and Davenport are in their second cycle in 4A-D1...but yes I think in two years they'll move on....

West Plains moved up from D2, I think they are down this year but they'll probably move to 5A in two year also...while Lubbock Liberty probably moves up to 4A D1....while in 2026 Wolfforth Memorial opens up likely as a 4A-D1

I think Lake Dallas is getting overlooked too. Maybe the MaxPreps algorithm is unfavorable to them considering they have been playing larger schools in recent years and in non district this year. They have the best chance at upsetting Panther Creek or Celina in my opinion.
