They tried with Franklin to do a neutral site and it didn't work out. They have tried to play other 4A Division II teams in North Texas and they won't My point in my response is you can't have it either way -- you can't bash them for playing people they probably don't have a chance against because the alternative is they would have back-to-back bye weeks. And I'm sick of all the enrollment talk for five-plus years. The numbers are what they are, if they weren't then they wouldn't be. File a complaint with the UIL if you have proof there's wrongdoing. I take up for them in the paper? I'd love to know how -- all I do is cover them and what they have done. A team that went back-to-back undefeated titles needs no one taking up for them. The victim mentality you have for gunter is mind blowing. Poor us, no one will play us that can’t beat us because we just too good, boo hoo. Just because the UIL doesn’t have the sack to hold gunter accountable to cooking the books doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. Everyone knows what they do that’s why they can’t find games. As someone else mentioned how is it every school surrounding gunter grew but gunter didn’t even with building permits higher then ever? Even at full strength, I don’t think it would make a difference in the outcome. Just might make the score a bit closer. But classifications exist for a reason. Gunter will fight and compete. But this is punching too high up in my opinion. Celina is loaded. They straight bullied Bellville in week one, and did it to La Vega for the entire second half last night. Bobcats should roll. Stay healthy and play with an edge and focus on cleaning up mistakes should be the goal. Let’s not get carried away now

Not every school around Gunter is growing. The schools SOUTH of Gunter are growing - because that's the direction of growth (from the Metroplex to the North). And it's coming. The growth is moving North up the 289/Preston Rd. corridor (and the Dallas North Tollway is being built all the way to Gunter as well - - it's not there yet - service roads are, but the Tollway proper hasn't been built yet). I suspect the boom will manifest when the Tollway proper makes its way farther North. Frisco saw a boom, Prosper saw a boom, Celina - just 10 miles south of Gunter is the fastest growing city in the United States and in the middle of their boom. Celina was at around 17,700 population in 2020. In 2024, it is almost 52,000. Gunter's population in 2024 was about 2,600. Gunter is at this moment still a small town in North Texas. If you've driven through it, you'd know that. Gunter has one gas station, a Sonic, a Dollar General, and one stop light. The other businesses (what few there are) are just mom and pop outfits. The "boom" simply hasn't hit like it has in Prosper and Celina just yet, but it's coming. There is absolutely no indication that Gunter ISD should be anything other than a 3AD2 football school at this moment in time. That WILL change - Gunter just isn't there quite yet. If the "cooking of the books" were really so obvious that some random "cranky old man" on a random football forum knows about it - - - and then insinuates that the UIL knows about it, but the UIL is so scared for whatever fabricated reason you come up that they do absolutely nothing about it....well that's just asinine nonsense. Your reasoning is pure conjecture. And setting all that aside, it would be absolutely insane to "cook the books" to remain in 3AD2 when Gunter would be similarly competitive in 3AD1. Why would they even flirt with risking severe repercussions by cheating their way into staying at 3AD2 when they would be competitive in 3AD1? What's the reasoning? If Gunter were suddenly plopped into 3AD1 right now, they'd be ranked #5 in the state. They'd be a 5-point underdog to #1 ranked Malakoff. You think that a program that has had the success that Gunter has had over the last decade would risk the reputation they've earned by cheating to avoid going from the #1 ranked team in their division to #5 in 3AD1? Bottom line is that not only do you have absolutely zero evidence that Gunter is doing anything nefarious, but they don't have any motive to do so - - because they would be just as competitive in 3AD1 as they are in 3AD2. There is no reason for them to risk so much. And there is absolutely no indication they are. Just baseless accusations on a random football forum.

I heard some accusation about Gunter pulling a bunch of kids because of vaccine records not being current. I found it to be hilarious. Very nonsensical IMO. back to football. If I were Gunter I would’ve just had multiple bye weeks. I don’t believe nothing good comes from playing schools with that much size advantage. I’m worried a main player could get seriously injured. Well any player really. I just wouldn’t risk that 3 peat. Just my opinion.

Just my opinion. I don't think you're more likely to get injured playing up than otherwise. I also believe playing a team that is above your level helps you prepare more than playing a team you beat 63-0 while your starters only play two quarters. Obviously, Anna is not only a big jump up, but they are also a top 20 team that much up, so I didn't expect Gunter to win. Gunter had a 32-game winning streak going into that game. I think it says a lot about the program that they value preparation by playing a high-quality team over extending a winning streak. They've got Celina next, and that's probably going to be something similar as far as outcome - I hope it's closer, and of course I'd take a win, but I think the goal in these games is preparation - - and I'd rather go up against an Anna and Celina than someone your JV team could beat. But, the experience and preparation they'll get out of it is - in my opinion - worth the potential to get knocked around a bit vs just cruising to a 8 or 9 touchdown win. Just my opinion, but I wouldn't think injuries are more likely. In fact, you could probably equally make the argument that injuries are less likely because the players on the other team are experienced, and know how to properly block/tackle, and are also less likely to be masters of cheap shots and things like that. In other words - they are disciplined. The fluke play that causes an injury can happen any time, but an undisciplined team will have a lot more things like personal fouls, late hits, cut blocks, things that can cause injury that the better teams are better at avoiding simply because they are more disciplined. They don't have to resort to the cheap/illegal play; they just line up and beat you - and again, in my opinion, a team that lines up and just out-footballs you is probably less likely to do the kinds of things that result in injury. The fluke tackle where a guy just lands wrong can happen against a team at any level. Just my two cents I guess. I know the Gunter kids are in great shape and are ballers. If you are playing against larger kids with a lot of depth it can exhaust muscle which can lead to injury. That is just one example. It’s bed time and my muscle inside my skull is exhausted. Someone could hurt my feelings because of it’s weaken status

Excited to see Celina's defense vs. Gunter's offense. I don't know if there are any other teams that run a similar scheme, but my mind can't recall Celina facing a similar offense to Gunter. I think the Tigers will be the best offensive team the Bobcats have faced in this young season, actually. Doubt they'll be as big as Bellville, and probably not as fast and athletic as La Vega. But they'll be the most disciplined, most potent and most varied for sure, even if they aren't 100% healthy. I know it's been a long time since these two have played, but both towns seem to be pretty fired up for this one.

Ballboy23
I think the score will be lower and closer than the Anna game. I believe Celina will try to use their size and just pound away with the running game, thus keeping the clock moving. Gunter runs primarily also, so running clock there too. Just my 2 cents.
Hawkball7
Gunter has moved away from the offense that makes them so potent and hard to defend, they just don’t have that true dual threat QB to run the option. This whole spread thing has been rough for them. It’ll work against teams in their division but against these big boys you need a lil misdirection. They’ve turned the ball over so much in 3 weeks, all through the air or through mishandled snaps at the mesh point.

Don’t know if you’re watching the game, but they went away from their offense because Celina was absolutely stuffing it. The only success Gunter has had, offensively, has been spreading it out and dumping little passes into the flats on rub-routes, about half of which could’ve been called for illegal picks. Now, please don’t hear me saying Gunter isn’t any good, because that’s far from the truth. I’ll give my full thoughts later. But saying they should’ve stuck with their offense is kinda silly because they didn’t have success with it from the get-go, and once the score got lopsided, it’s hard to ride that slow boat towards a comeback. d0tc0m
38-7 Celina. Gunter got a TD in garbage minutes against Bobcats backups. Celina could have kept starters in and upheld the shutout, but gotta get some other guys some time.
d0tc0m
Listen, Celina dominated this game, obviously. Bobcats just flat out stifled Gunters offense from the start, and got them out of rhythm and out of their game plan. Offensively, when the Bobcats didn’t shoot themselves in the foot with penalties, they moved the ball in a variety of ways. All that said, the classification gap was apparent. The score could have been and probably should have been a lot worse. BUT Gunter is a dang good football team. A dang good football team. Celina may not face a more well-coached team all season long. I hope the Tiger players and the Tiger faithful aren’t too discouraged by this week and last week, because they’ve got December football left to play. The Tigers are extremely disciplined. They are quick. They are athletic. They are strong. Their defense flies to the ball and they are the most sound tackling team I’ve watched in a minute, regardless of classification. And offensively, they’ll have all kinds of success against 3A Div. II teams. The good news for the Tigers is, they don’t have to worry about facing a team like Celina the rest of the way out. That’s bad news for the rest of 3A Div. II, folks. I don’t see anybody in that classification staying with Gunter.

They haven’t ran their pistol triple offense much at all this year. They don’t have the dude at QB to run it. Gunters offense is much more of a spread system this year cause the QB has a better arm than legs. It was a whole change up during the offseason. It’ll be fine for this year but they got a cat coming up next year that’ll take them back to that offense they love.
