ON THIS DATE IN LOBO HISTORY: September 13th
In 1946, John Rogerson rushed for two scores at Lobo Stadium in route to a 14-7 Longview victory over Palestine. The Lobos rushed for 222-yards in the win.
In 1957, Bill Bolger rushed for two scores, before Bill Coley and Robert Abney added the winning scores in a 26-13 Longview victory over Dallas Samuell at Lobo Stadium.
In 1958, Mack Thomas and Larry Shoemaker each rushed for a score while Ray Chancelor took a punt return 49-yards for a score as Longview knocked off South Oak Cliff, 22-6, at Lobo Stadium. The Lobo defense produced 7 turnovers in the contest.
In 1963, Jimmy Johnson rushed for a score and caught a score before Larry Pierce’s touchdown put the game away in a 20-0 Dallas Samuell win over Longview at Lobo Stadium. The Lobos managed just 93 total yards on the night.
In 1968, Ralph Blount caught a 31-yard score and kicked a 30-yard field goal as Ray Wright and Roland Whitehurst book ended the tallies in a 23-0 Longview win over Dallas Kimball at Lobo Stadium.
In 1974, Leo McCoy rushed for three scores and John Fuller added the final tally as Longview knocked off Waco Richfield, 27-0, at Lobo Stadium. The Lobos produced 7 turnovers on the night, holding the Rams to just 8 rushing yards.
In 1985, Longview jumped out to a 17-7 lead in the fourth quarter before Joshua Williams and Kevin Evans hauled in tally to lift Fort Worth Trimble over Longview, 21-17, at Lobo Stadium. The Bulldogs took the lead with just over a minute remaining on the 53-yard strike.
In 1991, Andre Davis rushed for three scores while quarterback Jason Dodson threw for three scores in a 41-14 Longview victory over Fort Worth Trimble Tech at Lobo Stadium.
In 1996, Tajuan Stroker rushed for a 3-yard score and a 1-yard score in the second half as Longview knocked off Killeen, 14-0, at Lobo Stadium.  
In 2002, Joel Armstrong rushed for two scores and threw one to Malcolm Kelly as the Lobo defense intercepted the ball 4-times to help lift Longview to a 28-9 victory over Lake Highlands at Lobo Stadium.
In 2014, after starting 0-2 for the first time since 1963, Longview jumped out to a 19-0 half-time lead over #2 Monroe Neville behind Antonio Carter, Dezmond Chumley and Marquies Hunter scores. However, the Tigers stormed back in the 3rd to bring the game to within 19-13. The Lobo defense stepped up in the 4th to hand the Tigers their first regular season loss since 2010 with the 19-13 win.

I had a gut feeling ND was gonna throttle A&M. We may both be right.

SOC has some really really big boyz on the line and some very very athletic skills players from what I can see early on.....just sayin'.  I did cast my ballot for Longview to win in a close one, but who really knows, Huh?  They have a couple of QB's that "showed up magically" kinda like their kickers do just to make sure they don't have a weak link somewhere.....namely at the QB position.  AS we all know, there are no shortages of quality QB's in metro Texas cities looking for a spot to highlight their skill sets.  Looks like the Golden Bears have just about every position covered with speed, size, and depth......just in case.  It will take a disciplined and quality execution of the offense to win this one......Longview will need to score often.  SOC is dangerous and has the capability of scoring at anytime and anywhere on the field......moreso than most quality teams.

SOC's QB Kopecky has been there since his sophomore year....JMO but SOC's skill positions are an area of weakness...they are not especially explosive...what they are is elite in the trenches on both sides of the ball

SOC actually has a very engaged and active alumni base...they traveled decent to Houston and I imagine they'll bring a decent crowd since Longview is closer

Hesitant is how I feel mostly, tbh.

I think we're better than we've shown thus far. Defense has been absolutely elite, and we'll probably need them to be the rest of the season.

Offense for the first 5 and a half quarters of the year were absolutely horrendous, up there with one of the worst offensive outputs we've seen from a Longview team since the mid 90s.

But they finished out the Marshall game strong. So of course, if the play calling and the play continues that way, then Longview should win this by at least two scores.

SOC definitely isn't the same SOC from the last time we played them, but I still struggle to see them coming into Lobo Stadium and pulling out a win.

No doubt they've played two of the top teams in the entire state already. North Shore absolutely dominated them to a 35-0 first half, then it looks like they let off the pedal. Duncanville let them hang around a little longer but it was never in doubt. Duncanville was playing their first game of the year too, so I'd be interested to see what it would've been like after DVille had played a game.

Main thing I can see from SOC is that penalties killed them in both games. They were able to shut down Duncanville's rushing attack, especially after getting destroyed by North Shore's rushing attack.

Longview just needs to come play Lobo football. Don't let the penalties take over the game, because SOC is definitely going to commit quite a few. O line has to be better overall. Play calling has to be better overall.

I watched SOC in the Duncanville game and I was not impressed with their QB play. It was clear to me that they did not fully trust him with the offensive. The Golden Bears are locking in offensive weapons but they have a solid defense and elite trench play. The team with the least amount of turnovers and rushing yards should win this game. I'm talking the Lobo's by 3 simply because they are playing in Longview.

I think it’ll be another low scoring game. Maybe not as low scoring as the lufkin game but i don’t see the winner of this one hitting 28+ points. Our defense is elite and nothing about SOC’s offense really jumps off tape. On our side i’m still just not very high on our offense. It has potential to be good if some things are fixed but  too many issues even in the big win last week. If SOC makes it tough for us to run like they did duncanville, points will be hard to come by.

Good to know.....I'll keep a watch as the season progresses.  I just naturally thought they had some speed merchants to run behind that big O-line. And they usually have at least 2 quality receivers with speed.  The QB Kopecky looked like he will be a dependable addition to the offense and may end up being a huge asset.
