The Alto Yellowjackets will host the Hull-Daisetta Bobcats this THURSDAY night because of a referee shortage; kickoff is at 7:00 p.m.  The Jackets are coming off a 34-0 shutout of the Cayuga Wildcats, the first shutout since 2021 (63-0 vs Groveton), and also the first 2-0 start since 2019. The Bobcats have started the season 0-2 with losses to Trinity 47-6 and Danbury 40-2. It has been since 2013 that Alto and Hull-Daisetta played and the two have only ever met in the playoffs; this will be the first time to play in the regular season.

Hull-Daisetta is under the leadership of HC Randy Birdwell who is in his 4th season at HD.  The Bobcats return 18 lettermen with only 3 lost to graduation.  They return 9 offensive and 9 defensive starters from a 4-7 bi-district finalist; they were 2-3 in district play in 2023.  DCTF predicts the Bobcats to make the playoffs and finish 4th in District 12-2A D2 behind West Sabine, Deweyville, Evadale, and are picked to beat Colmesneil, Sabine Pass, and West Hardin.  It is interesting to note that District 12 faces District 11 in the Bi-District round of the playoffs so these two could meet up again in the bi-district round.  Hull-Daisetta celebrates 100 years of football in 2024.

@KirtFalcon was there for the coin toss. They were honoring Spanish American war vets that night. He’s still got that Buffalo nickel.

I was looking at their history. They had some really good teams back in the day. There was a 3-year stretch from 1936 through 1938 where they didn’t lose a game. 11-0 each of those years. And then in 1961 they went 14-1. Not sure if that was a semifinals year or if they made it to state and lost. Do you happen to know? They’ve won a bunch of games over their history.

Have no idea.....I know R. B. Moffett, who the Colmesneil gym is named after, coached West Hardin at that time and went 18-2 and got fired.... 😂 ...both losses to HD....
