StingEmALTO
Alto routs Hull-Daisetta behind Almond’s 4 TD night By Jay Neal sports@jacksonvilleprogress.com ALTO – Camdyn Almond tossed three touchdown passes and ran for another to spark Alto to a 55-0 drubbing of Hull-Daisetta Thursday night at Cam’ron Matthews Field at Yellowjacket Stadium. The victory via shutout was Alto’s second in-a-row. The 55-point margin of victory was the most by a Mean Sting team since Oct. 29, 2021 when the Jackets whipped up on Groveton, 63-0. Defensively, the Mean Sting (3-0) held the Bobcats (0-3) to 86 total yards in the game, with 70 of those yards coming on the ground. An undersized Hull-Daisetta squad had no answer for Alto’s Zack Battle, who scored touchdowns from scrimmages the first-three times he got his hands on the pigskin. Battle’s first score came with 8:38 to play in the first period. He took advantage of several good lead blocks from the left side of the line and motored in from 35 yards out to give the Mean Sting a 7-0 lead. About 2:00 afterwards, Battle scored on an 18-yard touchdown run, which doubled Alto’s lead to 14-0. Almond hurled his first touchdown pass at the 2:40 mark in the first quarter when he connected with Jamarion Rollins from 31-yards out. That touchdown put the Jackets in front, 21-0, to start the second frame. With 7:07 remaining in the first half, Almond hooked up with Dakota Wilkerson for a 74-yard catch and run that increased the Alto margin to 27-0. The Mean Sting enjoyed a 34-0 lead at intermission as Battle capped off the first half scoring with a 9-yard touchdown that came 2:40 to go in the half. Although he had just three carries in the lopsided affair, Battle led Alto in rushing by gaining 62 yards. Almond rifled touchdown passes to Aiden Holmes (8 yards) and Tyler Jordan (59 yards) early in the second half. Jordan led Alto in receiving by catching three passes for 75 yards. Almond, a sophomore, had his best night of the season throwing the football. He went 10-10-0 for 278 yards. With 56 ticks left in the third stanza, Almond called his own number and dashed into pay dirt from 23 yards out, which gave the home team a 55-0 lead. Erick Olvera connected on 7-of-8 point after touchdown attempts. Alto’s next action will come next Friday when the Mean Sting travel to Winona. https://www.jacksonvilleprogress.com/sports/alto-routs-hull-daisetta-behind-almond-s-4-td-night/article_34a475da-7188-11ef-ad1c-ebb74a34665a.html?utm_campaign=blox&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&ai= Edited September 13 by StingEmALTO
StingEmALTO
A couple of observations about our team. Our young QB, Camdyn Almond, statistically is the most accurate passer we have had in some time….maybe it has been since Keenan Johnson that have we had such an accurate passer. I know we’re just 3 games in and the competition may not be the best, but I am still very encouraged. He was 100% tonight in completions and came into tonight’s game at 77%…..AS A SOPHOMORE. He hits his targets. And he has a calmness in leading the team. Now, I will say the line is giving him time to set up plays, which is a big change from last season. He is also dual threat as he is able to run as well. Actually our backs have been able to pretty much make big gains I think we are averaging almost 10 yards a carry, so the attack is very balanced. DEFENSE! DEFENSE! Coach Cabral is our new DC and he comes to us from Newton. He has installed a Newton-type defense that has only allowed 12 points in 3 games with 2 back-to-back shutouts. What he is doing is working. Again, I know the competition is not the best. But compared to last year’s squad and the amount of points allowed last season, this, too, is encouraging. We’ll continue to see how we progress and perform against better competition…and I know that is coming with the likes of our district mates. I feel like we are definitely on the right track. BlackandGoldalum
Almond has had a great start . 1st game the team was a little “slow” waking up , but the 3rd quarter exploded for 22 points . The newspaper didn’t put the completion percentage up that week that I saw just through for 105 yards . Of the last 2 games Almond is 24/28 for 464 yards (so he’s overall thrown for 569 over 3 games) while I agree the competition hasn’t been the best what an impressive start for a sophomore QB . He can continue getting better with every practice and he does have an arm . The kicker was used a lot tonight went 7/8 haven’t had a kicker in long time. Alto may not be ready to win the state championship this year (the fans are every year) but when you look at this year vs last year so far you can definitely tell a difference. Defense has made some good plays to . Very encouraging for the future. Edited September 13 by BlackandGoldalum

He was accurate and did a great job, having lots of opportunities tonight! Seems like such a small thing, but we’ve been going for two for awhile now. He’s only a sophomore as well, so I am encouraged here, too! Edited September 13 by StingEmALTO

I took small break from coaching so my wife could finish nursing school and get that career started for her so I'm just teaching 7th History until we move to the Frisco area in a year or 2, but I see 1st hand how ugly it is. [This is my 3rd year here]. Only thing that changed is AD, everything else still just as messy.

I haven't seen any film or anything on them, just looking at the scores....appears they haven't scored a touchdown yet. I figured being 3A, however, that they should have pretty good numbers. Is that the case? Congrats on doing what you need to do to help the wifey. Which team is your "team team".....your hometown follow-til-you-die team? Is it local or is that what takes you Frisco? There's not really good #s, and TBH there's no real athletes. The QB is pretty good kid (Rice), but no help at RB or WR. Right, they haven't scored a TD yet but maybe that'll change vs Hawkins lol. But I only see them possibly wining two games, maybe tonight vs Hawkins and then maybe vs Buffalo. All others will end with an L. NOW, the 7th grade on the other hand has some athletes and some decent size so that could be the grade to try and help turn around the program. So I'm from Hughes Springs and graduated in '06, but truly have nothing nice to say about any of my coaches/coordinators except Brian Nation. He was a great DC and genuine great guy; my Dad passed in '21 and he even came to the services. [Can't say anything nice about Mike Newton or other assistant coaches] but ALOT of my buddies have kids/cousins that have gone to Daingerfield so I've been a Tiger follower since I've graduated HS We're looking at Frisco mainly because of more nursing opportunities within the Pediatric Hospitals up in that area [not my wife's specialty yet but that's what she wants to try to do-->right now, she's on a MedSurge floor at Christus here in Tyler where we live]
