I was working. Passed by a conference room, and saw some people standing around a TV. Went in, and saw what they were watching. Saw the second plane hit live, and told myself "That was no accident."

Especially given that at that time all they knew is a plane hit the first building.

I went back to my desk, and streamed a local station listening to news the rest of the day.

I was at home, sick with the flu. Sick as a dog. My mom called me and said a plane hit one of the Twin Towers and turn on the news. In my feverish state, I naively replied, "what channel?" She said, "Every channel". About 3-4 minutes after I turned on the news, the second plane hit. Watched it happen live. It was surreal, I was sort of in and out of it all day, thinking it was a very terrible dream.

Was in new hire training at Love Field…only a couple of guys in class had cell phones…during first break the wife of one of those guys called him and told him…we were looking out the building windows that faced the runway and not one single aircraft was moving…we knew something bad had happened

Right before lunch break the training director came into class and said that a national emergency had been declared and that we could walk across the parking lot to go to lunch in the main building but not to wander around outside…inside the main building people were crowded around the TV’s and watching the replays of the aircraft hitting the towers…

We were let go early and I started driving home thru downtown Dallas with the radio on…the highway were packed and it took 3hours to get home…they were saying that gas had already gone up to $ 5 gallon and I was sure that when I went to class the next day they were going to tell us to go home and that we would be without a job…but a couple of days later the department director were I was going to work came to the class and said “We hired ya’ll for a reason…we have work to do, so go home and tell your family that you have a job for life”…been their 23 years since

P.S. The United 767 that hit the south tower was one I previously worked on when I was in SFO…. I commuted a lot back then and flew on 767’s occasionally…I can’t help but wonder if the crew on 9/11 are some that I had flown with…

My dad was having surgery at the VA hospital. The hospital went on lockdown and all the medical procedures were delayed so we flipped on the waiting room TV. We saw the first and then the second tower smoking and all the aftermath. It was truly surreal.

I was driving in the parking lot of my school, when I heard on Howard Stern that the first plane had hit. Ran into my classroom and turned on the tv in time to see the 2nd one hit. The building got quiet except for tvs being turned on all over the building. I had conference first period, then our principal told us over the loudspeaker to carry on with our day, while he then came around and told us room by room to just keep kids calm and not worry about teaching that day. We just slept walk through the day, with kids either silent, crying or being picked up.
At the same time, my wife pregnant with my third child, went into panic mode, back in my hometown, because someone randomly knocked out the electricity by hitting a pole, and we thought that something insidious was going on. My mom went over to check on her, because my dad had died just a few months before. Missed his comforting presence a lot that day.

I was on the field practicing football with the team. It was the first year of our morning practices.......The principals meet us at the locker room doors and gathered all of our muslim students to get them off campus. We only had a couple of football players of that religion. This was in Richardson.....We had TV's on in the classroom until the district made us turn them off, because our student population was about to explode. Very Very long day.

I was in Richardson, TX playing spades online on Pogo.  One of the people I was playing with told the us, and said his son was supposed to be working that day in the North Tower.  His son had called off from work that day.  I turned on the TV, and watched the South Tower go down.  A friend of mine called me up and told me that Lucent had let them off for the day and to meet over at Nick's Sports Grill to play trivia.  635 didn't have hardly any cars on it, but this was around 11 pm.  All of Downtown Dallas had been closed off fearing an attack on buildings there.  Spent the day there watching the footage of what happened.  I still remember around 8 pm that night they showed the footage of the attack in Afghanistan.  Everyone thought we were attacking them and stood up and cheered.

I was at the the Navy Nuclear Prototype facility outside of Saratoga Springs, NY.  I had just finished my qualifications as a student and been selected to stay on as an instructor.  We were beginning what they call an Operational Reactor Safeguards Exam, which is basically just an audit conducted by Naval Reactors.  I wasn't really qualified to do anything, so I was just stationed in the room with the records.  We didn't have any TV's on site, just a few offices had radios.  Someone came by and told me about the first plane.  They ended up postponing the audit and sent me and all unnecessary personnel home.  I went home and watched TV the rest of the day with my fiance, whom I was marrying in a few weeks.  We're still married today, BTW.  It changed everything for us there.  It wasn't really a Naval Base, but a Department of Energy facility.  So it had a guarded entrance, but you could pull right in and park in the lot before you walked into the guard shack.  After that, they built a gate about a mile out and really beefed up security.
