I commuted......wasn't that hard......early hours prepared me for my coaching career......

Don't get me wrong, early hours are much better than late hours at the office......late hours are for Snoopy's......

But being much younger back then, I had a lot more energy and vigor......

Around 7:30 a.m. local time. East Texas.

I was eating breakfast with my baby daughter (only had one child at the time) and was about to leave for work.

Phone rang, my wife answered and it was someone selling insurance or something. Wife said we weren't interested. Caller said, "Well you may want to buy insurance because the world might be coming to an end." Seriously. The person actually said that.

My wife said, "Um, excuse me? What the hell did you just say?"

Caller told her to turn on the news, said "the World Trade Center was just bombed," and my wife hung up on her. Turned on the TV. I think it was on Good Morning America.

My impression was that, yeah, it was obviously a terrible accident. Passenger plane experienced some manner of technical issue, and crashed. Terrible yes, but not wholly unprecedented. The fact it crashed into such an iconic building and landmark certainly made it a major news story.

I watched live as the second plane hit. I remember saying, out loud, the same thing every other rational person said, "This was no accident."
