Does Overton win number three, or does Maud win number one?

Yea, the Cards have fallen on hard times...so sad to say but Overton by a bunch.

I well remember the Rocket resurgence of the program some 15 year ago, a young freshman QB coming into his own and finding his way. Dang good coaching staff and several pretty darn good athletics.

I wouldn’t say hard times so much as it’s the ebb and flow of athletics at a small school. These kids play hard. They are young with only 4 seniors. A tough schedule in pre-district should have them ready to compete well in district. Just like everyone else, we play with the kids we have and their coaches do the best they can to get them ready to play. Mount E game was tied late second quarter and I didn’t see anything spectacular about them except the Ash kid.

Agreed, the vast majority of 2A schools go through a cycle of good years and then lean years.

I’d like to Check MEs history.  Seems like every 5 yrs or so they come up with a 3k yd RB that destroys the district and they’ll  win 8-9 games. Usually it ends round one of playoffs though.   In the last 15 or so years I remember the Pope kid who went to SMU I think , the kid that went to TCU, and now Ash.  Seems there was one other kid who came in there with a couple of high yardage rushing seasons as well.  Maybe someone could look at these kids regular season and see how they faired in the playoffs.

Kendre Miller is him, I'll try to find the other

Can't find a name "idk if was standout on that team" but like 2011ish it looked like ME played Tenaha several rounds deep so I'm assuming they had a good RB on that team or years?

Thanks man, those were some of the best times I have ever experienced in coaching and would hope all coaches get the opportunity to experience the same!

Didn't say anything about the kids or coaches, I know they play hard and are coached well and you are correct about the ebb and flow of small school talent...the ebb times are definitely hard times...like I said.

Sorry if it came across the wrong way was not trying to nitpick your comment Coach. Wish I’d been around in ‘07 for that ride. But 12 years in here and it’s become home.

I was blessed to be there 7 years also and made lots of friends that are friends for life. I would never talk down about ANY kid anywhere, much less there. By far one of the best places I have been blessed to coach and live. Great kids that will work their hearts out for you. I wish my grandson was there, he would be a difference makerfor the Cardinals but God had a different plan and he is making the best of a bad situation where he is. Best of luck to the Cards the rest of the way...as the greatest Superintendent I have ever been blessed to work for told us almost daily..."Once a Cardinal always a Cardinal"!! RIP Mr. Stennett!!

ME had Hunter Ammons in 2011, 243 yds rushing and went 11-2; Ammons in 2012 rushed for 2690 and they went 9-4.

Kendre Miller 2018, 1806 yds rushing record 4-6; 2019 2805 tds and 9-2.

The talent that Maud, ME, Cayuga and Tenaha had from 2008-12 was just unbelievable!! We used to have some incredible games with all those guys...I've got a pic of our playoff game with Yuga when Shead and company were there and at the coin flip there were 6 D-1  players lined up...3 for each team!!! Not to mention several D-2 and NAIA players on each team!!! Crazy amount of talent for small Class A teams!!

Maud is an interesting place...  my dad went to school there for, like, three years of elementary, and still has friends from there he talks to this day. Really, really interesting vibe.

Ammons was a Yard dog. Not as athletic as the rest of the RB and he was the FB but more physical than most of those on the field. Kid ran looking for contact. Mount 2010 team and 2011 team went to the Quarterfinals and the 2012 team made it to regionals. The 2011 team went 11-2 and both losses were to the state champions Tenaha. Mount was the 2nd best team in 1a that year. Ash is better than Ammons and Miller in high school. Other than Millers senior year mount hasn't been worth talking about until last year since 2012.

Yes.  Ammons was the kid I was missing.
