The Alto Yellowjackets will travel to Tenaha to take on the Tigers in a District 11-2A D2 competition this Friday; kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. The Jackets fell in a slugfest to the Grapeland Sandies on Friday 20-6 while the Tigers lost Thursday night to the Overton Mustangs 65-23, the first win by Overton over Tenaha in 20 years. Through the first six games of the season, Alto is averaging 31.8 points per game while allowing 10.5 PPG.Tenaha is averaging 18.7 points per game while allowing 47.3 PPG. This will be the 17th meeting of the Jackets and the Tigers with Alto leading the series 10-6.  Tenaha has won the last two meetings with Alto winning the two before that. All games from 2009 to 2013 saw the teams alternating wins each year. The Tigers are struggling this season needing a win in a bad way while the Jackets are looking to right the ship after suffering the first loss.

The Tenaha Tigers are coached by first-year AD/HFC Marlon Byrdsong.  The Tigers return 22 lettermen with 7 lost to graduation; they return 6 offensive and 6 defensive starters from a 10-3 regional semifinalist (5-0 district) 2023 squad.  Dave Campbell's Texas Football picks the Tigers to finish fourth in District 11-2A D2 behind Lovelady, Mt. Enterprise, Overton, and ahead of Grapeland, Alto and Cushing.

I’m feeling froggy .  After watching the Henderson/Kilgore game, AND remembering the halftime speech from Little Giants, I’m gonna give Teneha the nod.  Tigers win in a very tight game!

Oof. Who rents mules? 😂 I’ll take 1+! lol

Leading tackler is out. Next man up gonna have to step it up if any mules are gonna get whipped.

@SAPACK1 you didn’t have to worry about asking that question after last Friday! 😂

One game doesn't define a season...  just can't ask THAT question this week.  On to next week and praying that I can ask it again!

Improvement by leaps and bounds this year so your "one game doesn't define a season" comment is appreciated.  When looking at the overall program 7-12 our teams are a combined 13-3 (5-1, 3-1, 3-0, 2-1) and those younger groups coming......they are solid.  Friday was a good game with some missed opportunities but like you said ON TO NEXT WEEK!  Good luck to the Wolfpack!  3-0 win streak and feeling good yourselves after the last couple years.  Good luck this week against Joaquin!

Can’t take anything for granted. And YES, that Cushing game second half. Oof 🤦‍♂️

High school football summations – Week 6

BY JAY NEAL

[email protected]

Alto Yellowjackets (5-1, 0-1) Last Week: After opening the season by going 5-0, the Jackets were tripped up by Grapeland last week. The Sandies prevailed, 20-6, in Alto. Overton thumped the Tigers, 65-23.

This Week: Alto will travel to Shelby County for a date with Tenaha (1-5, 0-2) Friday. With Lovelady, Overton and Mount Enterprise coming up on the schedule, the Yellowjackets really need a win this week to keep its playoff chances alive. Tiger defense has allowed 106 points in the past two weeks. Tenaha’s only triumph (41-0) came against winless Linden- Kildare on Sept. 21. Tenaha’s four-year streak of having qualified for the playoffs could be in serious jeopardy unless the Tigers can find a way to upset the Mean Sting.
