It’s always the other person’s fault! That is the “new culture” that America is in now.

Who's fault is it?  The UIL for not putting in a rule?

This is America.  Everyone needs to learn a lesson from these games.  Winners need to learn how to win graciously and respectfully.  Losers need to learn how to take their L and learn from it.  Coaches need to learn how to coach their kids who are obviously better and kids who are obviously not.

What is it that is happening in these games that you think is so egregious that needs to be regulated by some new rule?

Running clocks are usually agreed on by the coaches with the refs before the game. Ex : You know your team is 0-6 or going against a powerhouse and you say hey ref if it gets out of hand 3rd quarter keep it rolling. Also long road trips are a factor too.

If you’re not stopping backups then you take The Loss with some dignity! No matter what the score is!

Most deny a running clock though

I’ve been on the sidelines for many, many high school games, many of them blowouts, and I’ve only heard a coach deny the running clock once, and it was because he was trying to teach his kids a lesson.

A lot of times it is for film purposes. Coaches can see more and show their kids more against some juggernauts JV or second strings. More clock equals more film. You still have to grow your programs, even in lopsided affairs.

A lot of the time coaches know what they are walking in to. They are prepared for that, but you still have to get quality reps and minutes out of it. Just because you are getting smacked doesn't mean that you get out of there as fast as you can.

But, there is a time and a place to run it. If the other coach asks for it, just do it.

"What goes around, comes around" is 100% true in coaching. If you are making an effort to be respectful and trying not to show anyone up, the other sideline or bench can see that. But if you don't, every school in Texas is about to get your film 🤣

No rant! Just my opinion. Just like your opinion of what I wrote. Both carry equal weight. You must not of been raised in the country. That is a reply most country boys use when something is different than what they think. Sometimes we might add “red eye gravy” in place of grief. Like good red eye gravy. I guess I could have said “ oh gee golly what a bad man that coach is he is such a brute” and it would have been different. Just accept it and move on. I still stand behind my opinion and sometimes I am interpreted wrong and I am ok with.

Opinions don't carry equal weight.  An educated opinion carries a lot more weight than an off-the-cuff rant, at least in the minds of those that have taken the time to look into what's going on below the surface.  Does a town of 500 count as country?  Some of the old timers would say of Freer's 95-0 loss, "they looked like they'd been pulled through a knothole backwards."

Ok in all fairness to every football player in Texas take the 45 point mercy rule out of 6 man.

Opinions don’t carry equal weight is telling me that your opinion is more valuable than mine. I don’t value unless I agree what you . Now - where  have I heard that before…….,.. oh yea now I remember— the word salad lady in Washington.

The “mercy rule” in 6-man has less to do with keeping the score down than it does with keeping the games from lasting till daylight. And I would argue that kids aren’t being harmed by being on the losing end of blowouts. My team lost the last game I ever played 57-0 in front of a huge crowd in a college stadium, yet somehow I’ve managed to be fairly successful and have yet to be arrested. Maybe you’re making too much of the score thing.

Maybe right. We should just do away with keeping score then nobody would be offended.

I would have bet $100.00 that comment was coming. I am not offended in any way. I don’t have a dog in the race. My wife says I am the best instigator/devil’s advocate she has ever seen. I started this topic the other day just to get people’s opinion and I definitely got that. I have just sort of agged it on as others made comments. 😂😂😂😂😂😂

We have a term for that kind of behavior.

Even from downtown Joaquin Texas. I’m good with that , whatever the term may be. But if Coach Jones is still running that slot t I would watch yall any day instead of the chunk and dunk stuff. That slot and wing t is my favorite offense in today’s football.👍

They’re still running it, and averaging about 49 PPG with it.

That is great . Shows that you do not have to throw the stinking football all the time to score and win. What are y’all’s chances against the Dragons this week. How do yall stack up with them?

Shelbyville’s only loss is to Mt. Enterprise, a slot-T team. We tend to struggle with pass defense and they throw the ball extremely well. We may play till daylight Friday morning.

That’s correct. The youngest is a sophomore, and had 6 TDs in the first 3 games. And yes, we play at home tomorrow night.

Take it however you like.  I wasn't saying my opinion is more valuable than your opinion or anyone else.  It could be your/my opinion today versus your/my opinion two weeks from now once we've educated ourselves on any topic.  Those opinions originally formed when we've seen only the surface do not carry the same weight and/or value as those we have once we've informed ourselves.

Nice try throwing in the political jab.  That's when you know you've lost your way with something worthwhile to say.
