4A-D1 legitimate state contenders

To be completely honest, I do think it's Celina's to lose in D1, just like it's probably Carthage's to lose in DII. You can't bash Celina's schedule because they're doing exactly what they need to do vs those teams. I think that Bellville game would be a much wider margin if it weren't week 1 with Celina defending that style of offense right off the bat. Celina and Carthage are very similar in that with those particular 2 teams, although in different classifications, it's hard to find many flaws.

Bellville 6-3 with losses to 2 3a Teams.Ā

La Vega 6-3Ā

Franklin - 6-2 3a Team (Big name the last few years, not the same team

Aubrey- 6-4Ā

Sulphur Springs - Good team I will give you this one

Paris - 4-5Ā

Records don't tell it all I get it, these are some big name teams, but La Vega isn't the championship team they were a few years ago. Gunter is legit, but a 3a team punching up to play Celina, Franklin isn't the same and again punching up to play Celina. Aubrey and Paris are average teams. Sulphur Springs is a good win.Ā

La Vega's three losses were to Celina by 22, Stephenville by 10, and #6 ranked W-O Stark by 8.Ā  They've blown out Brownwood, China Spring, and Connally.Ā  They're pretty good.

Paris beat Pleasant Grove.Ā  They would be in the top two in a lot of 4A districts.Ā  Same for Aubrey.Ā  The problem with Distirct 7 is they all have to play each other so there are going to be some losses by somebody.

Celina will probably win state............But Bellville was beaten by 2 3A schools - take them off your accomplishments

I mean, I think Bellville is still a good team. They are physical and tough, and they'll compete for a Region title in my opinion. The two 3A teams they lost to are probably the top two teams in all of 3A Div. I, and they'd both be competitive in 4A Div. II, especially if they were in Region III or IV. But I don't think Celina looks at that win as an accomplishment really. Just a solid season-opening win against a team that was a breath away from a state title a year ago.

If Celina makes it to state they should be the favorite. Because the road to get there will be tougher than anyone for Region III or IV. Aubrey - Alvarado / Panther Creek - Stephenville are three tough games. Stephenville's path is easy until the Semis. Kilgore's path leads to a district rematch with Pine Tree or Chapel Hill - Davenport / LBJ. If Celina makes it they deserve it.Ā

I think they are all suspect. Kilgore's loses to Gilmer, though controversial isn't looking good.Ā  Their lose to Henderson isn't looking good at all with them potentially going to miss the playoffs. LBJ hasn't played anyone except Wimberley and I thought they would win that more convincingly. I like Davenport, their offense is one of the top in 4, but I wonder about their defense ( I will say I have only watched them play once, last year against chapel hill ) defense didn't have an answer for their speed or physicality. I think my favorite would have to be Stephenville / Celina. I think they are the two best teams right now. Should be an interesting Semi final game

Kilgore shot themselves in the foot against Gilmer. They should've won that game and poor coaching/clock management and ridiculous penalties gave it away. They had a similar collapse against Henderson, and just narrowly escaped a similar fate against Pleasant Grove. If you look at those results, I think it's easy to kinda shrug off Kilgore. But when you watch them, especially in a game where they put things together, you do see the spooky level of talent, and you just can't turn your back on that.

Davenport has a good offense, sure, but again ... against who? And they've given up a ton of points to inferior teams too. The only legitimate team on their schedule, in my opinion, was Pieper, and they got their doors blown off (and probably should have).

A team I left out earlier and didn't mean to is Pine Tree. Their only loss is to Kilgore. The Pirates have a pretty stout defense, but I don't know if they'll score enough points to make a legitimate run to a title. But you can't count them out of that Region III mix either.

Agree Pine Tree is a contender; their defense is underrated. However, I read on a forum and went back and watched their lindale game and you can see QB1 on crutches. Without their starting QB that will be tough, seeing as they already struggle offensively.Ā

Pine Tree is NOT a legit title contender.Ā

I mean I think Region II is definitely top heavy, but it has pretty good depth.

Celina gets snooze fests in the first two rounds (in all likelihood). Wilmer-Hutchins in round 1 and (probably) a bad Kennedale team in round 2. Then I'd be shocked if they don't have a rematch with Aubrey in round 3. I don't see the Chaps losing to a DISD school in round 1 or to Decatur in round 2.

On the top half of Region II, you've got a solid Springtown team vs Panther Creek in Round 2, and Alvarado vs Sulphur Springs in the same round. Then you've potentially got a nice Thanksgiving-weekend game between those four, and the winner of it is rewarded with a Region II title showdown with, in all likelihood, Celina.

Ā

I think in Region I, it's almost assuredly a Stephenville vs Lampasas rematch for a spot in the state semifinals.

Region III I think has good depth too, and should be entertaining from Round 2 all the way to the finish.

Hard to win without a QB1. Their defense will keep them in just about every game, I think. But if you can't score points, it won't matter.

Bellville, La Vega, Gunter, Franklin, Aubrey, Sulphur Springs, and Paris.

Celina beating La Vega is now looking like a big win. Since that loss to Celina, they have steamed rolled everyone they have played.Ā
celina is definitely the clear cut favorite but that Kilgore defense will be the first defense Celina will have faced all year if they meet. Add Chapel Hill to the mix if the QB is healthy.Ā

Did we not give Kilgore a good game with 2 defensive starters out? And arguablely the best safety/wr in the district being out?

You did give them a good game...before they lost to Henderson. I believe they have been a different team since then.

You guys also did not score an offensive touchdown against Kilgore if I am not mistaken?

Stephenville is my pick.

Celina would beat the Ville, I think Kilgore is the only team with a shot at beating Celina. Unless Chapel Hill has the RB and QB back healthy. I still even if they are back can not beat Celina.Ā
Kilgore has the defense to get stops against Celina, but can their offense score enough.Ā
Celina has the best chance to win it all.Ā
