Celina would beat the Ville, I think Kilgore is the only team with a shot at beating Celina. Unless Chapel Hill has the RB and QB back healthy. I still even if they are back can not beat Celina.
Kilgore has the defense to get stops against Celina, but can their offense score enough.
Celina has the best chance to win it all.

It all depends on the day, no one would've thought that Kilgore could lose to Henderson.

I actually think Stephenville and Celina are pretty similar. Both have big, bruising offensive lines. Both have a bevy of good receivers. Both have high-caliber RBs (although edge here goes to Celina who has 2 all-state guys). And both have elite-level QBs. Both teams also happen to have big, speedy, physical defenses.

That matchup was a bruiser a year ago, and I would expect it to be much the same this season, should both teams make it to that semifinal game.

Well the good news is no one here has a crown to hand out, so that settles that.

The conversation is centered around who are the legitimate D1 title contenders. Celina is in that group, right?

And you highlighted exactly what I said earlier ... Celina has beat so many good teams so badly, it's made us wonder if those were good teams or not. A legitimate question, but you can't deny that PC is loaded for bear. They were the No. 2 team in the state at the time and also beating the brakes off people. Celina absolutely embarrassed them at their place. I think that loss was a reality check for Panther Creek, and it was one of those losses that can just absolutely break your spirit, which is why they struggled against some of these other teams. I also think Aubrey has figured some things out, and has become very potent on offense. They are the fastest team Celina has faced this season, and I expect the Bobcats and the Chaps to face off again at Thanksgiving.

But sticking with PC, we'll see how much their spirit is broken this Friday when they play Sulphur Springs. I'm picking the Wildcats in that one, because of how physical they are. Maybe apart from Gunter, SS is the most physical team Celina has played this season, and PC just could not handle the Bobcats' physicality. They wanted absolutely no part of it once they got punched in the mouth. Celina was leaning on SS all game long, but the Wildcats never really gave up. They were relentless up front. While SS isn't quite as explosive offensively as PC, I think their style of play will give them the edge over PC.

Getting back to your other question, though, apart from Paris and Community, every other team Celina has played has been in the Top 10-15 at the time of the matchup. And Celina passed every test. Bellville still a contender, La Vega is a DII region contender, Gunter still No. 1 in their classification (and there was some built-in angst and rivalry in that game), Franklin is looking for a 5th straight title game appearance in their classification, Aubrey would maybe play in the Region II finals if they weren't on Celina's side of the bracket, and Sulphur Springs has been the most impressive overall, in my opinion, that Celina has faced.

It's hard to look at that schedule and those teams and the way Celina has beat them and not at least think ... maybe they are on a higher level this season.

I also think that Celina is making good teams look not so good. If Sulphur Springs, Panther Creek, or Aubrey played Alvarado’s schedule, they would likely get similar results. Even Paris who is one of Celina’s weaker opponents has wins against Pleasant Grove, Lake Dallas, and Van Alstyne.

There's definitely some of this going on. Celina has made pretty much everyone they've played look bad.

Bellville 6-3 with losses to 2 3a Teams.

La Vega 6-3

Franklin - 6-2 3a Team (Big name the last few years, not the same team

Aubrey- 6-4

Sulphur Springs - Good team I will give you this one

Paris - 4-5

Records don't tell it all I get it, these are some big name teams, but La Vega isn't the championship team they were a few years ago. Gunter is legit, but a 3a team punching up to play Celina, Franklin isn't the same and again punching up to play Celina. Aubrey and Paris are average teams. Sulphur Springs is a good win.

Lake Dallas beat 5A Denton 49-0 and Kaufman who only has one district loss.

Paris beat PG, Lake Dallas, and Van Alstyne.

Aubrey beat Paris 49-28, Lake Dallas 44-14, and lost to Panther Creek in overtime. Aubrey was up 34-13 against PC, but they were not able to execute on multiple opportunities to put the game away.

Panther Creek only has one loss and was considered one of the best teams in the state until they played Celina.

Sulphur Springs is very good.

Celina’s schedule is not only not weak. It’s probably tougher than the vast majority of 4A D1 schools.

According to the way maxpreps does SOS, this would be true....

Looking at Maxpreps top 20 only Kilgore and Paris have a slightly higher strength of schedule than Celina.  In fact if you look a little further Kilgore and Paris are the only two teams in all of 4A D1 & D2 that have a higher sos.

And if you look at the power ratings # 2 Kilgore (49.2) is closer to #9 Aubrey (35.3) than they are to #1 Celina (63.7).  So according to Maxpreps there is a huge gap between #1 and #2.

# School Ovr. Rating Str.
1 Celina 9-0 63.70 31.6
2 Kilgore 7-2 49.20 33.0
3 Stephenville 8-1 48.60 25.2
4 Alvarado 9-0 46.30 11.0
5 Pine Tree (Longview) 8-1 43.00 26.4
6 Panther Creek (Frisco) 8-1 41.60 19.7
7 Sulphur Springs 8-1 40.10 18.7
8 Chapel Hill (Tyler) 7-3 37.50 27.0
9 Aubrey 6-4 35.30 28.8
10 LBJ Austin (Austin) 9-0 33.80 -10.8
11 Paris 4-5 28.40 33.3
12 Henderson 6-3 27.50 18.4
13 Lindale 4-5 27.10 25.8
14 Little Cypress-Mauriceville (Orange) 7-2 27.00 13.1
15 Springtown 9-1 26.70 -2.2
16 Lampasas 8-2 25.90 11.9
17 West Plains (Amarillo) 6-3 23.80 12.1
18 Hargrave (Huffman) 8-1 23.70 -0.9

There is an East Texas bias on here, and rightfully so. Not only is it an East Texas forum, but East Texas folks are logically less familiar with teams outside their region. Additionally, Celina has historically struggled with athletic teams from East Texas. That said, I’m in the camp that Celina is even better than they have been in recent years.

I think we've always heard this, but the truth is Celina has really only TRADITIONALLY struggled with Gilmer and motherblanking Daingerfield.

Apart from that, Celina has done well against other East Texas teams. They had a bad loss to Henderson back in 2011 (I think), and then of course lost a state championship to the 2008 Carthage team (still the best Carthage team IMO), but that one was a back-and-forth affair.

Now, all that said, I'd say this is the best Celina team since 2015 by a WIDE margin. And from what I've seen, and from what I've heard from a few coaches and the Celina broadcasters, this team would beat that 2015 team handily.

I’ve been saying this and I know I get some hell  for it but I think Celina is on a different level from anybody in their division this year. If they stay healthy and play like they have been I don’t think anybody’s beating them. Still have to play the games though so we shall see! this team is different. I’m telling you guys.

Celina’s line is so big this year, and the enrollment has about doubled since 2015.

I don’t really care along as it not Kilgore! And yes I don’t care about them being from East Tx ! I didn’t root for Chill in person last year at Jerry world!

On that I'm different, when it's the district and if we ever made the playoffs I'm rooting for my home team but if we don't make it and it's the D.O.D. in the playoffs I am rooting for the D.O.D. I was rooting for Chill to take the title to East Texas last year.

But if it's CHill, it'll be just rinse and repeat from the title game last year. Limit Brisbon and Stewart runs, you'll win handily. We've seen that. A team like Celina isn't losing to a team like CHill

It's not just chill, I would rooting for any team that's in the D.O.D. That's me and how I always been, I even would root for Kilgore or any team from our District to get to Jerry World and win it.

I don't know, I have to watch some of Celinas past games not on who the team beats, it's the  matchups.
