IF Mt Pleasant beats Hallsville and Whitehouse beats Marshall there is a 3 way tie for the 2nd-4th spots at 4-2. It would go to point differential tie breaker. Whitehouse would have to beat Marshall by 17pts to get the 2nd seed.

What if Marshall beats WH and Hallsville beats MP.....  then there is a three way tie for third with Hallsville, MP, and WH all (3-3).

Hallsville would have to beat MP by a huge amount to get in I think.  There's a chance the Bobcats could beat MP and STILL not get in.

But....TBH.... I think MP is about to blow Hallsville out of the water.

While I can appreciate the post cause it does give a recap, this common opponent comparison is deceptive.  Offensively, the Mavs have taken their foot off the gas a little early (IMO) in all district games with the exception of THigh of course.  The last series before the half against Hallsville, we looked like we were just calling plays to see if they would work.  Ended up giving the kicker some field goal practice.  Defensively, only team to score on Marshall’s starting defense in district play is THigh.  MP and Hallsville both scored on the 2nd string late in the 4th qtr. with the game securely in hand.

Correct Mavchamp, if my math is correct Hallsville would have to beat MP by 16 to get the tie breaker advantage and the 4th spot. This would give Whitehouse the 3rd seed.

Well.....I've learned to never take anything for granted in this game.

But I have a hard time imagining WH beating Marshall by 17.  No matter how much home-cooking they get.  Then again....we've seen some atrocious things happen in that stadium.

I have an even harder time thinking Hallsville could beat MP by 16.

We've definitely taken our foot off the gas in all of our district wins.

I can appreciate that.....there's no reason to humiliate teams after the game is in hand.  Not all coaches appreciate that fact.

Either put your bench in....or go super-vanilla.  Which is exactly what we've done after things are well in hand.

That home field advantage is all the more reason to clean up those after the play 15 yard penalties.  Needless flags that will kill you when playing a quality opponent. Another week…Mavs accumulating more of those penalties….difficult to watch.

We've got several things we need to clean up.

1.  Fumbles-  We've been lucky because we've recovered most of our own fumbles this season.  We had two last night.  Recovered both.  We've had several throughout district play.  We cannot let this continue.  It will bite you in the butt in the playoffs.

2.  Bobbling punt/kickoff catches.  That happened first play of the Tyler game. First game and play of the season!  It turned into a Tyler touchdown.  We make that catch a lot more exciting than we need to make it.  Gotta get that fixed.  Teams see the film  They see we've had issues.  Gotta get that nailed down.

3.  Ill advised long passes.  Hallsville should have had 2 interceptions last night.  Very poorly thrown balls into double (or triple) coverage.  We've got to learn to just throw it away.....or find a different target.

4.  Penalties.  Hustle penalties are tough enough to take.  But penalties reacting to the other team can't happen.  They know we will react....so they do it.  Gotta get that under control.

No reason for Whitehouse to not pull out all the stops this week. Trick plays etc. Fighting to get that home playoff game has been their main focus this season. They will be coming off a bye week. So an extra week of preparation can only help their chances.

This has become a pretty heated rivalry.

We cost them a district championship in 2022.

We cost them a home field playoff game I. 2023.

They would love nothing more than to return the favor in 2024.

I think the Mavs should be very warry of the possibility that WH will put in a scrub player in the first half specifically to pick a dead ball fight with one of our starters to get our guy ejected from the game.

I saw Kilgore do that to the Mav QB twenty years ago and it worked. QB was ejected from the game in 2nd QTR and the Mavs lost the game

MAVS, you're going to win the game if you control your temper on the field !!!!

WH employed this strategy a few years ago (different coach).  Our guys were ready for it.  The result was that several WH players were ejected.

I agree… some of our penalties this season have been us reacting to a penalty… resulting in both teams getting penalties.  Can’t do that.

Im hoping for a clean, hard-fought game. Win or lose.  But 20 years of conditioning tells me it’s likely to be ugly.  There’s a reason they have the reputation they have.

The Wildcat Network guys said WH had clinched with their win over Hallsville week before last....but I don't think that's 100% accurate.

WH is MOST LIKELY in the playoffs...but mathematically they could still end up sitting home.

If Marshall beats WH.... and Hallsville beat MP by 16 or more (not likely)....

I think that would put MP #3 and Hallsville #4 and WH out.

But don't quote me on that.
