Round 1, Carthage Vs Spring Hill

Carthage has advantages all over the field vs SH.  There is no denying that.  It’s a honor to host the #1 team in 4A D2 in a playoff game at Panther Stadium.  Hoping for a clean game and no injuries.

Should be no secret to the Dawg fans what Spring Hill is going to attempt to do Thurs night on offense.  Our best defense is a slow clock eating offense.  Think PG @ Carthage in 2018.  Must move chains to burn the clock.  Running inside is going to be tough sledding.  With Ingram likely out, I expect Beck to move inside at LB which should give the Panthers a glimmer of hope to have some success on the edges until Preston makes adjustments.  Onside kicks, fake punts, and 4th down attempts should all be expected.  Maybe even a rare pass attempt or two.  LOL.  The Panthers can’t afford any turnovers or bonehead penalties that put us into 2nd & long or 3rd & long situations.  If SH can limit Carthage to 3-4 possessions per half that would be best case scenario.  That’s a huge “if”.

Surratt will try and stay balanced on offense, which may actually help SH to a certain extent on defense.  I say that because Carthage could run the ball every snap and likely score on every possession.  But the push to stay balanced will give SH a puncher’s chance at a turnover via INT or a failed 4th down conversion if we play our cards right.

Enjoyed reading your thoughts.

Given the number of points the Panthers have given up this season, they apparently haven’t had much success in burning the clock.

That’s the big “if”.  We have only played two clean games all year - Gladewater and Pittsburg.

Yeah if I’m correct I thought that nfhs had all rights to the playoff games and the schools couldn’t.

Last year, NFHS had a price that someone(KGAS, Texarkana Gameday, etc) could pay and have it on that station.  Pretty steep price I think, but some schools have sponsors with deep pocket books for advertisements.
And if NFHS doesn’t show up or has no plans to show up, locals could stream it.

When you go to the NFHS website it shows this game as "upcoming". I wonder if that means they're definitely streaming it or they may drop it at the last minute and let the schools or someone else air it? They're listing the Van/Athens game the same way. Definitely better if someone local gets it.

I was wondering how gilmer always had their game televised still. I guess gadarzi and young law firm purchase theirs lol

Spring Hill will now be accepting transfer students for the first time in history, starting next year.

This will help the athletic program for sure.  I've known several great athletes that would have transferred here for other sports.

I'm not sure it will immediately help the football program. Most of the top talent still transfers out.

A Carthage win is likely, but I think 70-7 may be a little strong.  56 max.

Agreed.  Dawgs rarely score that much.  I don't think I need to tell you that's mostly by design too.  Lol 👍

I am keenly aware.  If it gets to that point, I just hope SH can stop the freshman running backs getting the ball up the middle or on the inside toss.

This is great news!  We are too big to ever get down to 3A D1, but have lots of space in 4A D2 before we get into the 4A D1 range.

That's the thing.  Those guys want their glory too.  I love watching backups score against starters.  I'm a meanie though.

They are still fairly small, but wouldn’t be surprised if both are on the varsity sprint relay in the spring.
