Buckeye1980
Gilmer won, TAtum lost, where will they be ranked?
Rabfan
i don't really see any movement in the rankings. it's not like tatum gave up 70 points or anything and didn't score at all. they went toe to toe with the #1 3A team in the state and played them close for a good part of it from what i understand. i doubt theres another 2A in the state that could have done it. so i figure that both teams will stay right where they're at. OldBat
it is people like you that give the Gilmer team a bad reputation for being poor winners------I say good game to both teams--by the way I am from Gilmer and congratulate my buckeyes and wish them continued success--Also, good luck to the Tatum team
kadeb10
gilmer doesn't recruit, so dont say that Gilmer did a better job of recruiting, because we ddn't... good game to both teams, way to give us a great game
Guest
I don't have a dog in this fight but it's amazing how you can pick the age and maturity of posters by what they put on here. Congrats to both teams and good luck in the future.
NoWakeZone
who was the moron from upshur county on kykx last night talking about the education system in Tatum, i agree with OldBat, it only takes a few bad apples, or yams in this case, to turn the whole bushell sour. you know its one thing to win a game, a highly talked about game, but to show the lack of class that you guys did after winning a game you were supposed to win, folks of gilmer, you need to check yourself!
Rhino2K
I don't have allegiance to either program, but I sat on the home side last night. I find Gilmer fans to be classy, not trashy. Sure, every school has a few "knucklehead" fans who say/do stupid things, but they are not representative of the majority. Great game!! Good luck to both teams in the playoffs!!!! NoWakeZone
the fool made reference to why we kicked off first and then again in the second half, the whole screw up was on part of the official, not our team captain as Mr. Wonderful tried to point out. Tatum won the toss and elected to defer to the second half, our team captain told the ref, "we want the ball in the second half", when tatum was told they had to kickj again, Evans was livid, the ref told Evans that he understood the captain to say that "we wanted to defend this end of the field"

TheEaglesWIT
Class?? I can't believe that this is even brought up on this board! With all of the hype surrounding this game ~ I don't think that any other two schools could have been anymore "classy" The coaches of these two schools couldn't have finer coaches....the prayer before the game says it all. The whole second half kick-off issue needs to be given a rest! Gilmer fumbled and Tatum had the best field position of the night ~ things always tend to work itself out. If anything the interception that Tatum ran back for a TD that was called back then Gilmer scores 2-3 plays later was a major turning point (not to mention a 14 point swing)...before I get any gripes I am not saying the holding call was good or bad...I am just saying that it seemed to really take some steam out of the Eagles. j-hawks
Back on topic. I think both should stay where they are at in the rankings. Gilmer had a great showing against the defending 3A state champ. Tatum did what no other 2A team in the state can do, play Gilmer a close game for most the game and not get blown out. Both deserve their respective #1 rankings.
Triponthephone
Tatem did not have as many guys as gilmer that was ther down fall i bet if the went head to head with the first-streangers then it would have been a different outcome tatem hade mor skill there. ridgemont4
Tatum does not execute well at all on offense. They rely to much on their athletic ability to make plays, when your dog tired in the 4th quarter it comes down to execution, not athletic ability anymore. Gilmer looked 7 games sharper than Tatum did on offense last night.

KirtFalcon
Random thoughts: I think both will remain #1 in most polls . . . and they should. Just as Tatum was outmached by Gilmer mostly because the huge difference in school enrollment, Tatum will outmatch the vast majority of the 2A schools they face for the same reason. Newton may be the only true challenge Tatum would face . . . if they wind up in the same playoff division. I heard the KGAS "homies" whinning all night about how many two-way players Tatum was forced to play vs how few two-way players Gilmer used. The shoe will be on the other foot in 19AA and throughout most of the playoffs, teams like Garrison and Timpson that are half the size of Tatum are forced to play practically all of their players on offense and defense. The KGAS "homies" made several comments indicating the officiating was mostly all going Gilmers way: On one Gilmer run, "There is a block in the back . . . there's another one" Later in the game as Gilmer was driving there was an on-air "mumble", "I'm not going to say anything else about the officiating":whistle::whistle::whistle::whistle::whistle::whistle::whistle:

bigsportsfan
Tatum is just not as good of a team this year. The preseason hype was just too much. They will probably win state, but they are not better than last years team. They miss the senior leadership in McCoy and Blackmon from last season. Don't get me wrong they are a good team - the best in 2A - and I'll be at every game, but they played a superior team and lost.
Triponthephone
true they are the best two-AA team in the state this year and they will probly go all the way if they dont get big heads and think they got it sewed up
