Aggie2008
The Astros are sitting tons better in the standings than anyone thought possible just a week ago, beating the Cardinals for the 3rd straight time. Luke Scott was the hero in this game as he hit a walk-off homerun with 2 men on base. They will play for the 4 game sweep tommorow night with Roger Clemens pitching on 3 days rest. Sunday is also the regular season finale at Minute Maid Park. Houston has now won 4 straight and sits 4.5 games back of the Cardinals for the division lead with 7 games remaining. They play St Louis again tommorow night, then travel to Philly for a make-up game before facing the Pirates for a 3 game stint in Pittsburg. They close out the regular season with a 3 game series at Atlanta. St. Louis has been unimpressive recently so it is not out of the question that they could continue slumping. They finish out the season against San Diego and Milwaukee. Is another Astro miracle comeback possible?
chsspiritguard04
They will fall short.

chase.colston
Just shows how terrible the National League is this year. There's no doubt whichever AL team makes it to the World Series will take it home.
shoelessjoelives
When the Phillies or Dodgers win 2 of their remaining games the Stros will be gone for '06. Nice effort but it looks like they might come up a little short this year. Mantle is surprising me again. I wish I could make him see that just because one team might have won more games in the regular season doesn't mean anything in the World Series. I grew up watching the Yankees every weekend in Virginia during the 60's and lived and died by every at-bat by Mantle. Detroit, the Mets and either San Diego or St. Louie will have something to say before the Yanks take home #27.
chase.colston
I'm not saying the Yankees will necessarily win the World Series -- or even make it for that matter. The American League is completely tough top to bottom in the playoffs. The playoffs are a whole different shin-dig, but I don't think the National League is strong enough this year. But I could be surprised ... and that is what I will be if an NL team wins.
TJC_fan
I've been disappointed too many times by the Yankees in the 21st century to predict a World Series victory. But I do think that this could be their year. Unfortunately, last night the Astros DID IT TO "THE ROCKET" ....... AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Roger Clemens left the game with a 3-1 lead. And though the Astros did beat the Cardinals, 7-3 .. they let St. Louis tie the game, which took the victory away from Clemens. That's got to be nearly 20 starts, and almost 1/2 of them he didn't get a decision. A lot of times because the Astros blew a late lead with Roger sitting on the bench. Yeah, the Astros will fall short this season. They've got too many teams to pass to get back in ... and not enough time.
DeuceChunker03
Look at the record between AL and NL during interleague play. The AL is going to take it easy. I hate it, but I think it's the year for the Bronx Bombers. I suppose it's ok to see the title go to an AL East team though.
BigRocky99
Actually Shoeless and TJC fan, the Astros chance, although it is very slim, is NOT in the wildcard but in the Central. Philly does play Houston tonight in a makeup game, so that game does have a major impact on the Stros, but unless the Dodgers remaining games are with St. Louis, they have no impact on the hopes of Houston. Houston is 3 1/2 games behind the Cards (4 in the loss column), so as I said, the wildcard has nothing to do with the Astros this season.
Aggie2008
Houston won again, Cards lost again. Lead is now only 2.5 with 6 games left.
LJLPOP10
I'm going to be sick if Houston makes the playoffs.

I guess the playoffs aren't such a big deal when you root for so many teams. :whome:

Guest
Folks this thing is far from over.....Astros win again tonight with Pettitte on the mound while St. Louis falls again with Carpenter on the mound. Houston has gained SEVEN games in SEVEN days! The Cardinal lead in the Central is down to 1 1/2 games with five to play. The key to the Astros pulling this off will be Hirsch and Sampson on Saturday. Pettitte's turn will come around on Sunday to hopefully win it or force a one-game playoff. Go Astros!!!:happy65:
KirtFalcon
Once again, the Astros show everybody who the best baseball team in Texas is!!! Wild card? What wild card? Were talking pennant!!! :w00t:
bigdawg16
pennant and then 1st round expulsion from the Playoffs...but it would still be better than the Rangers if we indeed get that far.
shoelessjoelives
They are still good to go and if they win the rest of their games they will be close to the show if not in it. They need to take the Cardinals out and win the Central because they are only 1 1/2 back of the Birds. Only 5 games left.............tick, tick, tick !! BigRocky99
Former Ranger Chris Young is the starter tonight (Wednesday) for the Padres against the Cards. Here's hoping he can come close to pitching another no-hitter tonight or even get one.
Guest
Go Chris Young!! If the Astros make the playoffs, they could easily make the WS. For one thing, you always have a chance with Clemens, Pettitte and Oswalt. Aside from that, they will be on an emotional high and without a doubt the hottest team in baseball. BigRocky99
I definitely agree about the Astros starting pitching being a factor. It carried them last year and Clemens, Pettitte, and Roy O really stack up against anyone as far as a starting 3 some in the playoffs. Would be nice to find out again anyway! Aggie2008
We pulled our streak to nine straight with another win 3-0, despite only getting only 3 hits. We cannot seem to find a way to lose no matter HOW bad we play!!!
