VBfan915 Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 Any predictions? It looks like a tight race. Athens is ranked 15th in the tgca poll, I'm not sure if they have beaten any quality teams, Van doesn't have a great record but has really played a tough pre-dist schedule and looks to have the best over all athletes, Bullard is 16-5 with only loses to Lee x 2, Carthage 1-1, Harmony in 5 and All Saints in 5. and has beaten several ranked teams. my prediction: 1. Bullard 2. Van 3. Athens 4. Chapel Hill 5. Brownsboro 6. Canton The top three should be very competitive
benchwarmer Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 I agree, almost completely. However, this may be the year that Canton excapes the cellar. The TGCA poll is a joke. There are several teams that do not deserve to be ranked. Athens, at number 15 has played a very weak pre-district schedule and has not defeated anyone significant. They were defeated by Van in the Van tournament. Van and Bullard have played better opponents but do not have Athens' record. The district should be a three team dogfight between Athens, Bullard, and Van.
BUvball Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 Wastn't Athens knocked off by Grand Saline? No offense to GS, but if Athens is deserving of the number 15 rank, then they shouldn't have lost to GS.... Also, Canton has gotten better from what I hear....not exceptional, but slowly getting better. Bboro is just very young, having graduated 5 or 6 seniors....Chapel Hill has 2 pretty good senior outside hitters, but everyone else is either young or inexperienced, not to mention a new coach. My prediction: Bullard Van Athens CHill Canton Bboro I agree, almost completely. However, this may be the year that Canton excapes the cellar. The TGCA poll is a joke. VBfan915 Posted September 18, 2007 Author Posted September 18, 2007 This weeks TGCA poll east tx teams 2. Commerce 4. White Oak 10. Carthage 12. Gilmer 13. Athens 14. Crandal 16. Pleasant Grove 18. Liberty Eylau 19. Maybank Bullard plays Athens there next Tuesday, has split with Carthage, beaten Liberty Eylau, finished ahead of commerce in the wills point tournament and gave Harmony a better game in the championship. Watched White Oak at the Carthage tournament and they look really good. I also suspect Maybank should be ranked higher.
vbfan829 Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 Having seen Bullard, Van, CH, and Athens....IMO it is Bullard's to lose.
VBfan915 Posted September 19, 2007 Author Posted September 19, 2007 Bullard defeated Brownsboro in 3, Athens defeated Chapel Hill in 3 and Van beat Canton in 3.

benchwarmer Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Athens beat grand saline, their record is now 19-4 Athens has also defeated Cross Roads, Kemp, Rice, Malakoff, & Hawkins.

sbiml Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Might want to change your predictions after tonight... Athens slammed Bullard in 3 straight games! 25-11, 25-22, & 25-15 Sr Athens players dominated - 2 incredible outside hitters, an agile setter & underclassmen that stepped up their game! New coach has taken Athens' gifted athletes to their true potential... Their record is 21-4 Going to be an interesting season for 14-3A! Any predictions? It looks like a tight race. sbiml Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 I agree there has been definite improvement in Canton - Van also obviously has a new coach which has made a difference for them. Athens beat Eustace several times this year & placed well in the Tyler tournament - The Van tournament was not a good showcase for any of the teams involved...& several teams are looking forward to rematches. Van does have some good players, but do believe Bullard & Athens will finish in top spots in their district. Gilmer, Whitehouse & Mabank are always have solid teams, with great coaching - I agree, almost completely. However, this may be the year that Canton excapes the cellar. The TGCA poll is a joke. There are several teams that do not deserve to be ranked. Athens, at number 15 has played a very weak pre-district schedule and has not defeated anyone significant. VBfan915 Posted September 26, 2007 Author Posted September 26, 2007 Athens played great last night. They have a complete team. Their setter and back row played awesome. Their coach really had them ready to play and they had three good hitters. I still believe it is a three team race. Bullard will fare better at home, that was their worst play this year by far. It was an impressive performance by Athens and over hearing comments from their fans, their best game of the season so far. Best of luck to them the rest of district.

baylor84 Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Drove to Athens last night and saw them play Bullard. Athens kept Bullard on the defensive and did not let up. Going in I did expect Bullard to win. These are the same Athens players from last year, the difference is their coach - I met her - she must be 6'4" tall. After the game I visited with her - Athens stole her from Eustace - so we know who taught her to coach. Awesome move by Athens. Don't discount Athens because they have a "new" coach. Will definitely see the rematch in Bullard. 14AAA will be well represented in the playoffs.....no matter the final top three.
eyeluvsports Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 :notworthy: Van beats Athens in 3. Go Lady Vandals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
benchwarmer Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 :happy65: 14AAA is all tied up again as Bullard defeated Van in a five game nailbiter.
