KirtFalcon
Will America Ever Support a U.S President Ever Again? I think the better question is: Will the media ever fairly and honestly cover a presidency and actual events again? Journalism seems to be dead. Every facet of media coverage has taken sides and slants the news coverage toward their political persuasion. It is very difficult for the "casual" listener to separate the slant from the truth any longer. The majority of people aren't paying close enough attention to events to know they have been hood winked by the press. Biased media seems to be here to stay whether we like it or not. applebutter
So your telling me the approval of the US presidents have not been on the steady decline? I never heard anyone say anything bad about FDR. Ever. You can Google George W Bush, Bill Clinton, and Barak Obama and the first thing you will see is a negative response. Perhaps FDR's people wrote the history of his administration. Here's a little residual evidence that not everything was as peachy as you seem to think. Notice it says: "BORROWED FROM POSTERITY", "FOR POLITICAL PROSPERITY". Truly, the more things "change", the more they stay the same.
OldSchool
You have never heard FDR criticized? Wow!! I think every high school History book had some sort of cartoon about new deal, work programs. People actually read back then.
BGR
The victors write history and will write themselves as being right. I don't think there has ever been a president, monarch or other type of leader that has not been criticized or opposed. With the internet, satellite radio and tv the ability to have a wide reach to the masses with criticism or support has become easy.

Your right applebutter...and history or democrats seem to forget that it under Roosevelt that we placed thousands of Asian-American citizens in "camps", FDR could give decent speeches but a good president he was NOT. The war got us out of the great depression, not his ridiculous government programs.
parentofredheads
I was just recalling the days in which America seemed like it had more of a unity. It seemed like we were in it with the same cause. WWII was a war that "all" for the most part agreed with. People loved FDR. It seemed like every one loved Reagan. Clinton got it bad, Bush got it worse. It looks like Obama's going to take it on the chin as well. Did backing your president end after Nixon? WHAT HAPPENED TO BACKING YOUR PRESIDENT? WHEN DID THAT END? WHERE DID AMERICA GO? I think it has a lot to do with the taxes we're paying. For instance, those of us who are funding things we are strongly against, or those who will not get off their fat arses and go to work. Somewhere, between the '60s or something, it's become a republic of whiners... not what can I do for myself, but what can other people do for me. Our grandparents fought hard through the Depression and learned from it. Somehow, somewhere we've gone astray and we have the me, me, me scenario, and it doesn't matter if it costs the bank or the farm, because somebody will baill us out, whether it's bankruptcy court, unemployment, welfare, food stamps, or disability. Not to even mention illegal immigration, and what that has done to the job market. The whole entire system has become corrupt. With technology, we've raised a bunch of kids that all they do is sit and move their fingers. We haven't taught them about hard work, and you have to work hard, in order to achieve your goals.. it's a, well, the government will take care of me scenario...a generation that has become enslaved by their greed, no morality, no integrity, and a total lack of self-worth. In essence, you are taxed to the hilt, blamed, and asked to give more for succeeding; therefore, those people who do succeed, work hard, teach their kids the meaning of right and wrong, integrity, morality are few and far between... Those that want to be taken care and think they deserve it, are raising generations of the same immoral, lazy, etc., etc. Thus, when a president goes willy nilly by over-spending, instituting new and bigger "nanny" programs, citizens revolt, whether it's Republican or Democrat. applebutter
Another thought. The Obama could have really cleaned clock here. He could have broken with his base and done what everyone with a brain knows would have worked. He could have drastically lightened taxes giving everyone (at least everyone who pays taxes) more money. Corporations would have invested in methods of production, oil companies would have begun developing new North American oil fields, and Joe Bob would have purchased a Chevrolet. Then, he could have stepped security up, instead of putting America and American servicemen at greater risk by explaining to the enemy what they don't need to worry about. If that had happened, the majority of Democrats would have stayed with him. And a disbelieving but grateful majority of Republicans and independents would have given their support. I have to agree wholeheartedly. If a kid doesn't have a cell phone, MP-3 or Ipod, or an X Box, they're underpriviledged.
applebutter
Further evidence that not everyone drank the FDR Koolaid. From 1934. Again, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

I like your response here Kirt. Between the Media and Hollywood the sense of right and wrong is eroding daily. The media never covers the full story and influx s slanted of a view that they cross over to being brain washers. Too many people sway with them wich ever way they go. Too many people are too weak to form their own opinions or become knowledgeable through their own research. They are too powerful and too influentual!
