stevosev7
i really hope so also...hodge is going to have alot of competition at linebacker, while johnson could possibly make it due to lack of depth at WR

Valhalla
I kept an eye on these two guys the whole second day of the draft. I was glad to see them both picked even if it was by Dallas. I hope they both have great NFL careers.

KirtFalcon
If Hodge makes it, it will be on special teams. He's an undersized linebacker and isn't fast enough to be an NFL safety.

lobo1
Hodge was an outstanding QB, reminded me of Thomas Everett only bigger.
KirtFalcon
He might play like Bill Bates played. That would be neat if he did Yea right, Bates was toasted several times when they tried to "hide" him in the secondary because of his lack of speed. I can still see him chasing that Chicago Bear running back down the middle of the field. Bates was a very good special teams player and marginal defensive player at best .... with a lot of heart. If you can't cover backs and tight ends out of the backfield, you can't start on defense.

Actually Bates Was a very solid Nickel back linebacker...it was not like Bates was slow..I know the ole Bates was to small to slow but had heart and made a career out of it, but I know the first year Johnson took over Bates was timed at like a 4.4 40. So he was not JUST all guile and guts but did have a little talent

He may have ran a 4.4 40 somewhere in his youth in shorts and a tee shirt, but he wasn't that fast in a football uniform. I give him credit for his hustle, character and determination which made up for his lack of speed his first few years in the league. He also was usually in position and had some football smarts. Teams began isolating him in coverage with backs and it was really ugly his last few years.
BGR
I would take a team of guys with the heart Bates had over a team full of ultra-talented guys with no heart. Bates had a long career for a less than super talented player. He is still one of my favorite Cowboys players of all time.

Bates was one of the best on special teams around and thats is what I meant by my post.
uniballer
On the NFL Network last night Charlie Casserly was talking about the Cowboys draft and he said he was intrigued by the Hodge pick because he along with Jason Williams and Mike Mickens will really help out on special teams and play a big part..... Looks like Stephen Hodge will stick with the 'Boys....

spacegolfer
Yes Bill Bates was a very good player for Dallas. He hurt many players with his hits. He played good linebacker and great special teams. Only in his later years did he slow down enough to cause problems. Kirk your point about his 4.4 speed is worthless. How many players were timed in the combine wearing their pads? They just don't time them that way even when they are on the team. Get real here!
bshffl
Is Bill Bates coming out of retirement? If not then what does his speed or lack of have to do with the Cowboys drafting Hodge and Johnson. These posts get off track real quick.
