Rick Barker leaving New Boston for Fouke, Arkansas

Rick Barker told David Smoak he is retiring from coaching in Texas and has accepted the job as head football coach at Fouke High School on the east side of Texarkana, "I have 31-years in Texas and this is a unique opportunity for me to retire, and yet continue coaching in Arkansas without moving."

Barker was 68-20 at New Boston, and 56-43 in nine years at Pleasant Grove and had a nice run, "We did a lot of good things at New Boston and obviously I wish we could have done even more, but I loved working at both New Boston and Pleasant Grove around Texarkana."

Barker, who accepted the job at Fouke High School this week, informed his players of his decision on Tuesday morning.

Corsicana Mildred Now Open

Patrick Harvell will resign as AD/Head Football Coach at Mildred High School in Corsicana and take a job in administration at nearby Mexia High School.

Harvell, who led Mildred to a Class 2-A, Division II State Championship Game appearance will sign a contract during the first week in January.

Harvell was 48-15 in five years as the head football coach at Mildred.

We lost one of the great coaches in Texas High School Football history, John Outlaw of Lufkin.

Manley Resigns at Pittsburg...

Robert Manley has turned in his resignation as AD/Head Football Coach at Pittsburg High School.

Manley told David Smoak, "It's just time to move on, I've had a nice run in this great part of Texas, but the past two years have been very difficult with the death of my father a year ago, and my mother's health hasn't been very good either." Manley continued, "And, honestly, I want to be with her up where she lives in Oklahoma."

Gunter vs Celina

Gunter needs to reconsider this game.  The bigger schools they are play at ranked teams in much larger classifications.  A lot better odds of injuries than a win.  May be too big a price to pay.  I might wave the flag instead of losing an athlete for the season.  Pride can be blinding

Week Two: Longview at Marshall

Marshall’s 2017 team was one of the more talented in a while.  Didn’t say they were the best team. But had Chasen Hines LSU current Miami Dolphins practice squad Taj Washington Memphis/USC is currently a Miami Dolphin on injured reserve  Savion Williams TCU and will be drafted next year Marje Smith Baylor/SFA Brevin Randle SFA/La Tech/ UTSA Christian Hood Houston Baptist Kameron King S Miss/Houston Baptist and several more I can’t think of right now that played college football.  Still lost 41-7 to Longview 

 

Talent has further spread the teams since then, the time has come to move on from the series

I was siting in my truck and didn’t hear it.  I have a grandchild and I don’t think he was part of it.  It has happened and likely will again.  I don’t abide in that type of behavior.  Apparently this generation doesn’t think they will have to account for their actions.  They will one day

Hope I am wrong but Atlanta.  NB could sneak up on them. Atlanta is a good team but not a real contender to break out of the region.  Tier 2
