Please, stop the coaching change MADNESS!
Sunday, 8th April 2012 - 2:21PM
I wish I had the time to write more, but I'm on the road with the NCAA Tournament. But, I just needed to vent a little bit and if you want to respond, my email address is [email protected] or [email protected].

But, this week's events at school district's in Whitehouse and Elysian Fields, and the dozens upon dozens of changes among the AD/Head Football Coaching ranks has become, in my opinion, epidemic.

There will be over 200 changes in Texas High School Football again this off-season, that's nearly 20% of the programs.

And, although there seem to be more changes during a realignment year, the amount of changeover is sickening to me, and the bottom line, is this good for the student-athletes involved in constant turmoil and change?

I'm a former military brat, our family moved every 3-4 years, I went to three high school's in four years, three of those years in Japan, so I know about change, but that was Uncle Sam forcing the issue.

If some of these changes are from coaches being promoted for their success and productivity, well, that's the American Way.

But, how many of these changes are just unnecessary based on personal agenda's from a school board member(s) or just the lack of patience from the administration.

I understand it's about success and win's and losses and the success of the entire athletic department and not just football, but, how much time and money is being wasted on annual coaching searches, when there's not enough money in our school system's anyway?

Please, stop the madness, let the coaches coach, let the administrators run the school system, and if you're one of those parents who forces a coaching change because you're upset with the lack of playing time for your son or daughter, go back to taking care of your own home.

And, aren't the school board members and administrators who hire an AD/Football Coach one year, and decide to make a change the next year creating their own problem?

In that scenario, who should be fired, the person hired, or the people doing the hiring?

Just saying.

King's contract at Elysian Field not renewed past next year
Saturday, 31st March 2012 - 5:48PM
Smoaky.com confirmed the contract of AD/Football Coach Eric King has not been renewed past the 2012-2013 school year.

King is 12-9 in two years at Elysian Fields High School, and he told Smoaky.com, "I will be the head coach here at Elysian Fields for the 2012 season, or until I am told differently by the school board of our district."

Kettler now official in Crockett
Saturday, 31st March 2012 - 5:48PM
Although the decision to promote Joe Kettler to AD/Head Football Coach was made last week, the veteran assistant coach wouldn't celebrate his opportunity until school board approval.

That approval occurred on Monday night.

Kettler replaces Paul Parsons who is moving on to most likely coach elsewhere.

*** Week 3: Hull-Daisetta Bobcats (0-2) @ Alto Yellowjackets (2-0) - THURSDAY | 7:00 p.m. ***

Alto routs Hull-Daisetta behind Almond’s 4 TD night

ALTO – Camdyn Almond tossed three touchdown passes and ran for another to spark Alto to a 55-0 drubbing of Hull-Daisetta Thursday night at Cam’ron Matthews Field at Yellowjacket Stadium.

The victory via shutout was Alto’s second in-a-row.

The 55-point margin of victory was the most by a Mean Sting team since Oct. 29, 2021 when the Jackets whipped up on Groveton, 63-0.

Defensively, the Mean Sting (3-0) held the Bobcats (0-3) to 86 total yards in the game, with 70 of those yards coming on the ground.

An undersized Hull-Daisetta squad had no answer for Alto’s Zack Battle, who scored touchdowns from scrimmages the first-three times he got his hands on the pigskin.

Battle’s first score came with 8:38 to play in the first period. He took advantage of several good lead blocks from the left side of the line and motored in from 35 yards out to give the Mean Sting a 7-0 lead.

About 2:00 afterwards, Battle scored on an 18-yard touchdown run, which doubled Alto’s lead to 14-0.

Almond hurled his first touchdown pass at the 2:40 mark in the first quarter when he connected with Jamarion Rollins from 31-yards out. That touchdown put the Jackets in front, 21-0, to start the second frame.

With 7:07 remaining in the first half, Almond hooked up with Dakota Wilkerson for a 74-yard catch and run that increased the Alto margin to 27-0.

The Mean Sting enjoyed a 34-0 lead at intermission as Battle capped off the first half scoring with a 9-yard touchdown that came 2:40 to go in the half. Although he had just three carries in the lopsided affair, Battle led Alto in rushing by gaining 62 yards.

Almond rifled touchdown passes to Aiden Holmes (8 yards) and Tyler Jordan (59 yards) early in the second half. Jordan led Alto in receiving by catching three passes for 75 yards.

Almond, a sophomore, had his best night of the season throwing the football. He went 10-10-0 for 278 yards.

With 56 ticks left in the third stanza, Almond called his own number and dashed into pay dirt from 23 yards out, which gave the home team a 55-0 lead.

Erick Olvera connected on 7-of-8 point after touchdown attempts.

Alto’s next action will come next Friday when the Mean Sting travel to Winona.
