FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AUSTIN, TX An incident involving the disqualification of the Columbus High School 4X100 meter relay team at the Region IV Conference 3A regional track meet occurred on April 27, 2013. The UIL was made aware of this issue on May 2 after media reports of the disqualification began airing on May 1. Over the course of the investigation, the UIL interviewed several eyewitnesses and reviewed video of the race. Additionally, the UIL spoke to the involved parties. The UIL has concluded the investigation and has found no evidence to suggest that the disqualification took place as a result of the student-athlete expressing religious beliefs. Alto Coaching Search Update...
Monday, 13th May 2013 - 11:48AM
I traded a text or two with Alto AD/Football Coach Keith Gardner on their search to find his replacement following his retirement announcement.
Gardner told me, "I have endorsed and recommended my offensive coordinator, Paul Gould, but the decision will still come down to what the superintendent and school board want to do."
Gardner did confirm Gould is meeting with the superintendent on Thursday, and the school board is scheduled to meet on May 20th.

Sartain back in the HS coaching business
Sunday, 5th May 2013 - 8:07AM
Mark Sartain is back as a head coach at the high school level after being approved by the Spring Hill I.S.D. school board on Monday as their new athletic director and head football coach.
This will be Sartain's fourth head coaching job at the high school level, including previous stops at Cross Roads (17-11), Eustace (6-23) and White Oak (43-41).
And, most recently the head football coach at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall from 2007 until resigning after the 2012 season after a 3-7 record.
Sartain told David Smoak, "It's just exciting to have this opportunity and be at a place I believe is a good fit, where the experience I have at both the high school and college level has prepared me to build on their tradition and what is obviously a strong school district and community driven by high expectations."
