Midway's Petroff goes to Royse City

(Waco) Midway defensive coordinator David Petroff has been named the new head football and boys athletic coordinator at Royse City High School.

Petroff has been the defensive coordinator at Midway for the past six years, and has been on staff with the Panthers for the past nine years.

He replaces Greg Strahm, who was at Royse City for five years, including 1-9 last season.
Matt Langley leaving Maud High School...

Matt Langley is leaving Maud High School to get involved in another business (his statement is listed below). Langley won a district co-championship in his one year as AD/Football Coach at Maud, before losing to Mount Enterprise in the second-round of the playoffs.

Langley told David Smoak, "Maud will be doing great things in football and athletics immediately with some great classes coming through the system. I prayed on this a lot, but it's an opportunity I can't pass up and I have so many people to thank who embraced me over the last year."

Allen Cross leaving Rivercrest for Tom Bean

Allen Cross has accepted AD/Head Football Coaching position at Tom Bean High School after three years at Rivercrest High School.

Cross has a career record of 28-28 as head coach at both Rivercrest and Muenster. He told David Smoak, "I'm excited about getting back closer to where I went to college at Austin College and I'm looking forward to this opportunity at Tom Bean."

Cross is a graduate of Clarksville High School.

Guyer's Heard tops honors

BRYAN, Texas (AP) — Denton Guyer quarterback Jerrod Heard was the offensive player of the year honors on the 62nd Annual Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association's Class 4A All-State Football Team.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Heard threw for 2,090 yards and 17 touchdowns in leading Guyer to the Division I state title. Heard, who signed with the University of Texas, also rushed for 2,138 yards and 35 touchdowns.

Linemen Daeshon Hall of Lancaster and Tyus Bowser of Tyler John Tyler shared defensive player of the year honors.

The 6-6, 230-pound Hall had 24 tackles for losses and 16 sacks, and the 6-3, 230-pound Bowser had 24 sacks and 14 quarterback pressures.
