Tyler Lee's Gary Fleet Retires
Sunday, 20th May 2012 - 12:12AM
Gary Fleet has announced his retirement from coaching after 29-years working within Tyler I.S.D. Fleet has been the offensive line coach at either Tyler Lee (24-years) or John Tyler (5-years) for 29-years and has been considered among the most successful offensive line coaches in Texas High School Football history.

He was an all-state linebacker at John Tyler in 1979 and has coached numerous former all-state and eventual college football stars during his time in Tyler. Fleet played college football at Abilene Christian.

Fleet told David Smoak, "I just decided at this time of my life that I can't think about football all of the time and it's time for me to focus more on my other business endeavors. I can't coach without being intense, and I just can't maintain that intensity day-in and day-out like I once did." Fleet continued, "I have been so fortunate to coach with and for so many great people, too many to name, but we have a special bond."

Fleet was the running backs coach under Jimmy Franklin at John Tyler, and the offensive line coach under Biff Peterson, Mike Owens and Randy Huffstickler at Tyler Lee, he has also been the offensive coordinator and/or running game coordinator for the past several years..

Fleet has been working with the offensive line under first-year head coach Darrell Piske thru spring drills and will officially end his coaching duties following their spring game on May 24th.

Brandon Denson of Moody High School will replace Fleet as the offensive line coach at Tyler Lee.
