During Friday’s game against Garland in bi-district play, Miller became Tyler Legacy’s career rushing leader with 4,848 yards, surpassing Tyron Ross’ mark of 4,748 yards in the 2nd quarter.
“It means a lot to me, but I have to give all the credit to my o-line,” said Miller. “When I got the record I was speechless. It shows that all of the work and effort I put in away from the field has paid off.”
Miller finished the game against previously undefeated Garland with 12 carries for 136-yards and 2TD, guiding Tyler Legacy to a 41-40 win over the Owls. A multi-sport athlete, Miller also competes in track for the Red Raiders, where he ran a 10.71 100 as a junior and an 11.06 as a freshman. He also competes in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.
On the gridiron, Miller has racked up multiple awards throughout his career. As a junior, he was named District 10-6A Utility Player of the Year, while earning District 11-6A first-team selection at RB and second-team pick at CB as a sophomore. As a freshman, Miller was named District 11-6A Offensive Newcomer of the Year.
Hale’s record setting performance came in the Lobo’s 45-24 victory over Magnolia in bi-district play on Friday. The junior finished the game with six receptions for 166 yards and 2TD, while becoming Longviews career touchdown leader with 25.
Like Miller, Hale is also a multi-sport athlete. The junior competes in track and basketball for the Lobos once football season ends. On the track, Hale ran a 22.68 200 as a sophomore and also long jumped 21-0 1/2.
His accomplishments on the football field over the past two seasons have earned him District 7-5A D-I Offensive Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore, and he became the first freshman on varsity at Longview in at least 15 years.
Hale and the Lobos (8-3, 4-2) will take on #10 Lancaster (10-1, 8-0) on Friday at Memorial Stadium in Mesquite starting at 7:30pm. Miller and Tyler Legacy (6-5, 3-3) will take Cedar Hill (7-4, 5-2) on Saturday at Globe Life Field in Arlington starting at 11:00am.
