  1. A battle for 1st place between two of East Texas' top baseball teams was held Thursday night in Carthage. One team pitched their top two starters, while the other pitched their 3rd pitcher, having elected to use their top 2 pitchers the previous night against one of the weakest teams in the district. Why is this not worthy of some discussion about the coaching decisions of the losing coach?

Thus far, there has been no enlightenment on this thread about this strange decision - only unanimity in the attitude that because he is the coach, he must have had good reasons. Is this attitude the result of the UIL now having so many teams making the playoffs that a district championship no longer means much?

If you go back and look at one of my earlier post in this thread(along with a few other) you will get your answer. without all the info that the SH coach had, impossible to answer. I have a feeling none of this matter to you. By the way this is a public forum but it doesn't give you the the moral right say anthing you want.

  2. The lack of focus and respect for the game comes from the coaches. My kids have attended a public school that does not care for baseball or softball. They have the teams and the fields but that is about all. The fields are poorly maintained and have not had any upgrades in six years. Both teams have had a different coach each year for the past four years. If the school really cared about baseball/softball athletes they would hire baseball/softball coaches. The athletes are students and feed off the adults. I am not saying it is right. . . but these are kids. If the school does not hire a baseball or softball coach and force other coaches into that position - - - the program will never improve.

The athletes are smart. . . these kids know the school does not care about the program(s). If the adults don't care about the program(s). . . . why should the students?

Where was the coach while the students walked across the infield? My guess - - the students were following the coach. Where was the coach while the outfielder was doing backflips? It is obvious the coach doesn't care or he would have pulled the kid.

It has been very frustrating but there is more to life than sports.

My oldest daughter is currently playing D1 softball.

My middle child is playing D2 baseball.

My youngest will graduate high school in May and has signed to play D1 baseball.

All three kids have played select baseball/softball and recruited to play college ball from the summer teams. Playing high school ball did not help them get recruited.

I agree with everything you say. The coach is at fault if he didn't say something.

The only thing I would "disagree" with is the part about playing high school ball did not help them get recruited. Especially if your kids attended a small classification school, playing high school ball won't help. Going to camps and showcases are the best way to get noticed. It a rare occasion when scouts attend a small school game.

  3. Have no clue on the situation, but how many pitches had the 1st pitcher thrown, what inning was it in, how did he feel about the match ups, where in the lineup where they, how had each pitcher fared the last few outings or against said opponent, how did did each pitcher feel on that day, how much rest had each pitcher had? These are just a few factors involved. Let the man do his job. Its hard enough to do the job without having to endure public questioning of his intelligence. With all this said, just to clarify, I know nothing of this situation nor know the coach in question.

    Second the above comment.

  4. District Track Meets, high school and jr. high are worked around baseball an softball. In fact, baseball and softball usually work around the district track meets.

We have never sheduled baseball or softball around JH track. Nobody in our district or the 2 disrict around us do.

HS track is a different story.

  5. Education does not equal intelligence. However, if educational requirements were required, where is the line? GED, HS diploma, two year Tech School certificate, A.S/A.A., or B.S./B.A., only educational background degrees or history? Everyone has a complaint or question, but no answer or suggestion. Stating that it could be better is not a suggestion, but an opinionated observation.

There are educational requirements for board members.

you only view some of them as opinionated observations because you disagree with them. Having a high school degree is not an educational requirement. And no just having educational improvement doesn't make you smarter, but sure is better than the ones who just "finished" high school. That should ring true to anybody but the "finishers". That would better the educational system. Also I think you could incorporate any of the above after HS diploma.

  6. The best way would have some sort of education requirements for board members. Especially in the small schools you get memebers that hated school, or teachers, or coaches getting elected. They are there for one thing, their agenda. I don't think a person that struggled(I mean in effort) or was just passed through school needs to be on a board. Now if these students realize later they made a mistake and get serious about education and make something of themselves, then they should be able to run. They will probably make the best board members anyway.

  7. I heard the RipIt was a good one as well, I'm concerned about a no name company putting a durable product out though.

rip it is not a no name company. They have put out very good BESR bats. My players have used them the last 3 years and love them. Not sure about the BBCOR, but willing to bet they are good.

  8. I agree with you on most of that Rickey. Disagree that the one's being heckled enjoy it, most just keep their mouth shut(not liking it). There are few that do enjoy it. Without knowing they like it you are showing bad sportsmanship. I just don't think people have enough respect for other people to keep it in good taste. It usually takes just one to get it started.

  9. The problem I see with these type of things(student sections) is that they aren't there to just support their team. They attack the other team and players. Teaches bad sportsmanship. I know they do it at the college and professional level, but it still doesn't make it right.Have seen them at lots of high school basketball and baseball and everytime bad sportsmanship(various levels of it, some real bad, some not too bad).If they just cheered for their school they would be great. Building civic pride is great, but not at the expense of other people.

May be old fashion, but it's right: Treat people they way you want to be treated.

  10. Gilmer could care less about basketball. Proven point look at our record over the last 5 years and tell me if this was football how long would it take to make changes? It's just off season traing for football and keep the boys in shape.

That was exactly why basketball was invented. Not picking sides, just clarifying that point. Each sport serves a purpose, to agrue which is better or more important is silly.

  11. 103 mile district game your crazy and a 129 mile district game for elkhart thats insane man.

Distance for Lovelady last two years(district)

    Hull-Daisetta- 100 miles

    Pineland(West Sabine)- 112 miles

    Saratoga(West Hardin)- 97 miles

    Colmesneil-81 miles

The two years before three of the district opponents were in Waco. Don't think distance will play a part in realignment. Crockett might have to travel next year.
