  1. Fixing the current stadium doesn't add much home field advantage, other than saying frisco isd. They have what...10 schools? With 2 more in the works. They have their own district in this realignment. No one would have home field advantage either way. Might as well play in a ridiculously nice new building and make a ton of money on playoff games. And maybe I'm wrong, but Frisco ISD won't be playing every game there. They will rotate between there and other district fields. Or that was the original plan at least.

You are correct. The schools will rotate, and still use Memorial Stadium, and Toyota Stadium. Not only is this venue spectacular, but I think the coolest part is the home team will be walking onto the field as the Cowboys are finishing practice.

  2. Soooo...going to be a slow football week in the City of Texarkana week 1.

    Thigh- away

    LE- far away

    AHigh- away

    PG- off!!!!

Redwater is playing EF here but...no thanks.

Hooks@New Boston is the only localish game...

Whats going on Aug 26 for Pittsburg and GW? Might make a trip....

In regards to Pittsburg and Gladewater, I think your best bet would be traveling to Gladewater as they play Carthage. That one should be pretty good. Pittsburg travels to Crandall.

  3. Yeah, I've been waiting for this one. Since we have a first round bye, I was wanting to make the trip but it's in Tyler on a Thursday! Why have this game so far away when these two teams are pretty close to each other?

I've been watching the LE guys and I can say that they are looking strong, fast and mean. Gilmer was pretty tough when we played them but very beatable but it's been a year so anything can happen. If they haven't improved any or have stayed stagnant, LE crushes them. If they got better, LE beats them. Either way, I think LE gives them hell and sends them home crying.

    LE 31

    Gilmer 17

17? They'll have that in the 1st qtr. I'm seeing a high scoring game, hopefully not like last year! I'm thinking a more probable score will be:

    GIL 42

    LE 31

  4. How did the SH - ND scrimmage go last week?

It went ok. SH went 1-9 last year, ND went 0-10 so anything would be an improvement for either team. In the live portion, SH "won" by a couple TDs I believe

  5. With Gilmer's extremely tough schedule (toughest I've seen in a long time), I'd be really surprised to see them go undefeated, let alone "roll". They have the potential to be really really good, and should win district, but I think every game will be tough. I don't really see them rolling over anyone on their schedule, but all they know how to do is WIN. It seems if you play them within 2 tds, it's a moral victory. Every team is different every year. This isn't last years team, and certainly not 2014's team. Time will tell. If they gel, and stay healthy, they will be hard to beat. I think they come in this year with a better QB, so should be interesting, especially if he gets protection from the OL. Going to be some really great district games this year, and the ATL game should be for the district title. Let's hope everyone is healthy when district starts, and let the games begin! 🏈

  6. For what it's worth, I'll throw my two cents in. I can't say about the control portion, but I watched the live quarter. Looks like both teams have work to do, but all teams have work to do at this point. Kilgore's QB looked real good. Team overall looked solid. Good size and speed. Gilmer's DL needs some work, as does the OL. Not sure what was going on with Gilmer's corners, they got beat quite a few times. I know they were missing some players, DIV 1 players, so perhaps that's not a good indicator. Kilgore will be real good this year, and if Gilmer's OL & DL get it together, they will be tough to beat. I know for one, I would not like to have to tackle Gilmer's RB's. Big and fast.

  7.

Is this the year for the mauling of the Bux?

Mailing OF the Buckeyes? Don't think so, but with their schedule, I don't think they go undefeated. Three things I'm concerned about going forward.

    1. QB. I thought B Rice should have been the QB last year. He's big and tall, but does he have the mobility. Decision maker? Deep passing threat, or more important, with their timing pass offense, accurate? Poppy seems more agile and faster, something they haven't had in a couple of years. Can he make that split decision to tuck and run if nobody is open?

    2. O/D lines. I know they lost some good ones on both lines, but replacements? Breaking in a new QB won't be easy if lineman aren't up to the challenge. Will need to replace some size and mobility on both sides.

    3. Leadership. Losing D Boyd will be the biggest obstacle to me. Emotional leader on defense. He and T Olivaris will be hard to replace on that line.

On a side note. Will Rashard Ward play RB this year?

  8. That's key.

One injury could be difference in possible district championship and missing playoffs.

True in some instances. This will be a competitive district, with no gimme games any week. I say this district is still Gilmer's to lose. Obviously injuries are part of the game, but I think Gilmer is deep enough, and play so many kids in their rotation, that an injury or two won't be that big of deal. I really think everyone is solid, going to be fun

  9. Gladewater will finish 2nd or 3rd in my opinion. Solid team returning.

They do have a solid group returning. Good line as always, and some good skill players. I just don't think they will get past Atlanta (could be wrong), just never know. Hoping this district stays healthy, will be some real good games each week!

  10. Well after reading all of this I guess my bears will be hibernating this season lol yeah right this district isn't won by anyone just yet let's see what these BEARS got to say about it

    Ok

  11. I think this season will be a special one I know them boys are ready they just need stay focus on prize take one game at time on paper no one will ever give us chance but we coming we going break that door down get out our way Hawks are coming this season

    🤔

  12. I do believe this will be the best overall team PG has had under Gibson talent wise, but the record will not show it unfortunately. My prediction: Paris-L, Arkansas High-L, Frisco-L, Liberty Eylau-L, Krum-L, Gilmer-L, Atlanta-L, Pittsburg-Toss Up, Springhill-W, Gladewater-Toss up. Those toss up predictions at that point in the season are really going to be based on if PG is healthy and if they don't lose any guys to grades.

With that schedule, I say 5-5 or 6-4

  13. Bellville will be good, but won't beat WOS, and I'm really shocked they have WOS below them in Reg 3. Celina will be better than last year with Pennington back, so I think they should be the early favorite in Reg 2. Gilmer has quite a lot returning, but with their QB question, I'd put Celina ahead of them at least for now. I'm thinking the Rice kid will get the nod? I personally thought he should have been the QB last year, it's tough to just keep giving the job to a Sr.

  14. What happened to the DC? Why was he let go?

Did you see how many points we gave up last year???

Lol, in all honesty, he's been there quite some time and is ready to retire. I believe his contract wasn't renewed for next year. Like I said above, none of the coaches that are leaving or let go did anything wrong, just moving forward.

  15. Mercer is doing a good job.

We've got another tough year of football and then, the Mercer era will begin with groups of kids he's had enough time to work with. These 1st 2 seasons of his, he didn't have enough kids in the program to compete. They had all moved away or quit football long ago.

He's doing good things. Year 3 will be better (the best in SH in a long time) and year 4, he will have us in the playoffs.

Another big difference now is a DI and DII in 4a that didnt exist 4 and 6 years ago. Our younger kids are able to compete against schools more their size. They are all having success and staying in the program now.

Only two football coaches were removed, the DC, and whatever the girls basketball coach coached. The rest were both tennis and both middle school basketball coaches. If anyone else leaves, it would be because they wanted to.
