  1. If Hooks' defensive line can play even with H.S. offensive line, then I would think Hooks has a good chance.....that being said, in the last few years, Hughes Springs offensive line has been firing off the ball really well and blocking well.........for the H.S. fans, keep an eye on #55 from Hooks on defense---he is fun to watch play, even if he is on the other side of the ball....he played hard and well last week
  2. Center had a super quick noseguard/defensive tackle last year.......I am thinking he was a senior last year......If so, is he playing football anywhere now ???
  3. my guess----DeKalb 6 td's and Q.C. 2 td's.......DeKalb has good team speed, which I think will lead to some long plays this Friday
  4. Might be a similiar game as the P.P. and L-K game last year.
  5. Daingerfield's 1983 defensive team didn't have any world class sprinters, but dang, they could all fly to the football Atlanta has good track speed and a couple of those track guys are also really good football players......Daingerfield has several guys with good speed, not state championship 100 meter speed last spring, but competive in district and regionals, and also good football players I don't think "the speed factor" will be as nearly important as just playing hard nosed football Friday night
  6. I wasn't at the Center game, so I don't know how many of the 30 points Rusk scored was due to turnovers or special teams......But if you played pretty good and gave up 30, watch out.......L-K's offense, especially if everyone gets to play this week, will be quiet a bit better than Rusk's offense........I know Center will have revenge on their minds after the end of the game lose last year, but they better play better than they did against Rusk.....If they do play better, then they may get a win, and who knows maybe a lopsided win if all the breaks go their way
  7. Just some information to put out there......L-K seems to be almost as young as EF was last year, other than having a few more seniors than EF in 2010...........getting half the snaps or more on one side of the ball or the other was 6 sophs and 1 freshman for L-K......this guy is hoping they continue to grow as players in the next few weeks...............still saying congrats to Hooks on the win
  8. Oldhornet.......yes, there are several sets of Linwoods around Linden L-K tied the game up 14-14 with about 2:40 left in the game.......Hooks made 2 long runs for TD's in the next minute to make it 28-14.........hard fought game......lotsss of momentum changes.........Hooks had several long runs and the fullback probably carried it 25-28 times........Linwood had TD runs of 95 and somewhere around 60.....Linwood probably had 220-240 yards rushing Congrats to the Hornets on the hard fought win.....Good luck in district
  9. Everyone out here in SmoakNation doesn't know 100% of the details---maybe the District 8 committee or the UIL can get all of the details and make the right decision........there does have to be guidelines on moving, or else the state of Texas would probably have "super schools" and then "the rest" Some of the people in EF can look at it this way----"WHAT IF" your stud player(the junior who already has the big schools looking at him) had decided to move to Carthage a couple of months ago....and under this "what if" he had told his friends he was moving to Carthage to help them get their 4th straight championship, but he told the school officials he was moving to live with an aunt for better conditions in a stable home(just an example, i know this isn't real life accurate).........would the EF people want him to play for Carthage and be happy for him?.........i know this isn't what happened in the Beckville/EF, but an example of why the UIl has to look at most cases
  10. Just a guess----roughly the same height as last year, maybe 1/2 inch taller........7-10 lbs heavier......let's say around 5'9 1/2", and 180-185.....remember, just guessing................he doesn't look much different from the stands really
  11. I am guessing it is a 1 in 40 chance L-K attempts a fieldgoal, and 1 in 80 chance L-K makes a fieldgoal....a safety is always possible, but L-K scoring exactly 10 points is very unlikely.....not saying Hooks will not win by 7 points, just don't bet any money on L-K scoring 10...lol I will be really surprised if Hooks keeps L-K from scoring at least 3 TD's, and I understand 3 TD's might not be enough to win.......Coach Elliott will want to win his first game pretty bad, so I look for a big dose of Shock Friday night, and he is the real deal this year
  12. If the series continues after this year, when Longview goes to Marshall to play, maybe they will only get 1200 seats also.....Or maybe before they sign the 2 year contract, the schools can come to an agreement on how many seats each visiting team gets
  13. I will probably go to the game, and sit on the Atlanta side.......If i do, I can try to save 2 or 3 seats, but you have to promise not to wear your hard hat......lol
  14. Smoaky......Longview News Journal and the Redwater/West Rusk people on here say their game is Thursday in Gilmer
  15. I watched the game in Gilmer last year on a Thursday night.....but Smoaky has it listed as being on Friday night in Redwater this week. Is it Thursday or Friday, Gilmer or Redwater ???
  16. He said Jefferson has underachieved. I think you listed Pittsburg's accomplishments as an answer.
  17. How about the Sulphur River ?
  18. now you are blaming it on the L-K coaches..........let's set the picture for the SMOAKY readers........it was during the controlled part of the scrimmage, with most if not all the coaches from both teams on the field with the players..........L-K's coaches behind the offense, since L-K had the ball.......DeKalb coaches behind the defense..............the play was a long play(i am guessing 20 to 30 yards)...the scuffle started where the play ended-----down field.............of course DeKalb's coaches got there first, they were 30-40 yards closer to the action..........DeKalb's coaches did a fine job, no doubt...........but dont say the L-K coaches didn't do just as good a job........it happened on L-K's sideline, so of course there were more L-K player's immediately there "excited" and needing to be calmed down, so yes, most of the L-K coaches were needed Coach Elliott grew up in Atlanta, which was a rival town, so L-K rooted against him in his playing days.......but he has always been a guy of character--a preacher in fact.......he let his players know that it will not happen again..........I imagine the DeKalb coach gave a similiar speech
  19. JABO is a great coach that believes in getting is team primed for the first district game......He wants to beat Pittsburg I am sure, but his #1 objective is district games. If this was week 6 thru 10, I would take the Bulldogs.
  20. DeKalb out played L-K last night......very evident Just the opposite of last week against Pleasant Grove........L-K beat PG 3-0, but I said I thought in a real non-district game in a couple of weeks, I thought L-K and PG would be a close game.......I think the same with DeKalb and L-K, I think in a real game it would be close(with Linwood getting lotssss of carries)........but DeKalb DID look better last night, no doubt about it!!! L-K looked slower and not as excited to be playing last night as they did last Saturday......maybe tired legs or something, or maybe DeKalb is that much faster than PG and that mucher better........I am not sure
  21. Who do you have ??......I am thinking it will be 2 pretty even teams.......I am taking L-K based on being home team, and maybe a homer pick...lol---crossing the Red River to play in Northeast Texas is usually worth a few points for the home team
  22. First team in controlled scrimmage-----L-K 1 PG 0 First team in live 15 minute running clock -----L-K 2 PG 0 In the controlled scrimmage, PG probably would have scored once if Coach Davis wanted to.....I think he had his plays scripted, and tried a pass play on L-K's 8 yard line on 3rd and one----he knows the scrimmage doesn't count on the record, so he worked on plays and did not worry about the final score If these 2 teams played in 2 or 3 weeks for real, I am guessing it would be a very close game L-K looked slightly better than they did at this point last year........The offseason move in(guessing 6'3" and 260-270) could be a monster on both sides of the ball by district, as he looked good in spurts today........Shock is a little faster than last year, but so much stronger----doesn't look like the same athlete.........Logan Vise could be the best 130-140 lb soph WR/QB/DB L-K has had----pretty speedy for a little man......Could tell that the added muscle on Stevens will help him at RB/LB The 2nd team and JV was pretty even, even though I think L-K outscored them in both......In both of these sessions, PG had multi chances at scoring but something seemed to go wrong----correctable mistakes
