  1. I bet you knew the answer to your question before you even posted. I am also willing to bet that you have a grudge or something against Pat. Why don't you just go ahead and say what's on your mind? Pat is a good guy and will do a fine job. I wish him and the community nothing but the best of luck
  2. promoting from within on this job is the worst kept secret in East Texas. First heard this about six weeks ago at a track meet. Congratulations to Coach Faigle and kudos to GISD for promoting from within lots of other schools chould make a note. But if you are going to do this why not let people know so that they do not waste their time and energy applying for a job that is already a done deal? And for you haters out there, no I did not apply for the job. So this is not sour grapes.
  3. I know I read somewhere that he had applied for something somewhere, I can't remember specifics....... Maybe Rivercrest? I was suprised when I read it. Frankston has a ton of talent coming back next year. Not something that many Coaches would walk away from.
  4. Arps dugout is not big enough for Adair's butt and the team. The renovations will not be competed until Saturday.
  5. From where I sit the biggest problem with this rule is the various districts having gutless executive committes and let people get away with breaking the rule. If the Superintendents would get tough and enforce rules instead of ignoring them we might not see this type of behavior so much.
  6. You are probably right, and in two years they will want another yes man. And so on, and so on............
  7. It would seem that ten percent of the schools in Texas like Kemp go through ninety percent of the Coaches. Yet the people in these communities persist in thinking that they know what a HS Athletic Program should be doing. Amazing.
  8. Texas High has won 1 (ONE) playoff game in 18 years. In the article in the paper McMannus was quoted as saying "I didn't know winning playoff games was part of my job description. I guess it was but nobody told me." WWWWWHHHHHAAAATTT????? It's funny how in interviews all they talk to you about are your morals and how they expect you to lead in a positive way to make kids become well prepared men, but in reality the winning is the ONLY thing that matters. After you've won for awhile & the community starts to forget how hard it was to get there, then they start worrying about the other stuff. It's a HUGE crock! Excellent comment.
  9. waawaawaawaawaaa:messbaby: Same old argument. Put them all in offseason. Practice after school. Those that don't play other sports lift some more after school. After getting pushed around in the playoffs this year by a bunch of guys that were plain and simple stronger than us, there is no way I would not want all of them in the offseason period. If I had my choice the period would be longer. Then we could lift and do agility in the same period. Let each coach run his own program. The football coach will design an off-season program for FOOTBALL playiers and he doesn't mind having varsity basketball or baseball players lifting on game days. Let the pecan head run his off-season and every other coach run theirs. So you think it's okay for a kid that plays tennis in a AA school that also plays football baseball and basektball goes through a tennis offseason for a portion of the year?
  10. There are football coaches that exploit all other sports for the benefit of football. There are parents who do not want a universal offseason because little Johnny in spite of whatever else is said does not want to have to lift weights and/or run. The best solution for everyone is to have an athletic period that conducts strenght and conditioning training that is coordinated by the head coaches of each specififc sport. Just because all athletes are going through the same workout does not mean they are doing the same work. Some of you may be suprised to know that MOST coaches do not make a 5-9 140# point guard do the same workout as a 6-2 300# offensive tackle. Lifting weights and agility training will make anyone a better athlete. All practices are conducted after school.
  11. Me too, I have heard he has been getting a lot of complaints in the last couple of years from parents upset over the times that are being reported, etc........ Why he keeps doing it is a mystery to me. I don't know what I would do without it. I would not be suprised if he winds up shutting it down in the near future. I have dealt with him a couple of times ordering stuff and whatnot, great guy.
  12. Good thing you don't know about it then. He certainly knew about it and he also spent a couple of hours working out AFTER his day of pitching. I also PERSONALLY saw him running for at least thirty minutes (sixty yard sprints) to warm up with before he started throwing the day of a game. I have his entire strength and conditioning program somewhere. If I can find it I will post it here, he lifted. He lifted EVERY day. It has been my experience that the vast majority of kids who cry about having to lift weights and/or run during the athletic period are whiners who do not want to have to work out period. Here we run, lift, etc...... whatever is on the schedule the day of competition. We may do a "light" day. But we do it. I am the Head Track Coach at our school and while we may not be the fastest school in East Texas just about everyone of our kids sets personal bests every time that they compete. Running during the period on the day of track meets is not hurting them at all. Granted we do MODIFY their workout on track meet days and it is heavy on stretching, but we DO run. It is easy for those that have one kid to worry about to have thoughts on why they should not be expected to work out, but when you care about 75-100 kids it is easy to so who the best athletes are. They are the kids that work out every chance they get instead of finding reason to complain about it. And you people that complain enough to the point that your school caves in and runs off coaches who try to make you better through weight lifting and agility drills, please let me know who you are. We want you on the schedule.
  13. You must be mistaken, I have been told by several different parents that they did not want their basketball playing son to lift weights because it would "ruin their shot".
  14. Why is everyone so quick to label "off-season" as primarily having to do with football? In my perfect world everyone lifts weights and gets faster and more agile during the period and then goes to their sport after school. That way EVERY sport is treated the same. If you are in basektball season your weight lifting and agility training drills are coordinated with the bb coach. Everyone does not do the same type of weight workout it is dependent on what their primary sport is. If you don't want to lift weights and get faster you do not belong in any athletic program I want to be a part of. I was spent thirty minutes talking to Nolan Ryan. His gameday weight lifting routine would make the most avid football coach blush in embarrasement. His GAME DAY routine!!!!! Lifting weights did not seem to hurt him any. Any kid that says that weight lifting and agility drills make him to tired to practice is trying to manipulate the system so that he does not have to do those type of activities.
  15. That is what I heard last night at a track meet. I also heard that Crockett may go AA next realignment.
  16. Yet she moves up in her profession. Welcome to the world of the public school administrator. And as far as the questitons about why the NAACP is involved, who cares? What is right is right. What is wrong is wrong. If the NAACP is on the right side of this issue then why they were not involved when a coach of a different skin was getting the shaft in Pittsburgh is totally irrelevant to this debate. Never forget "the enemy of my enemy is my friend".
  17. How people like this Superintendent get and keep jobs is beyond me. Why are not incompetent boobs like this never held accountable for their asinine actions. And even better she is a typical administrator. It is morons like this that are ruining public education. which of these two is in it for the sake of the kids? and which of these two is a political hack that is mostly worried about covering their own butt?
  18. I kind of figured that Azle would screw over the guy on staff that applied. He has done a great job there as a Coordinator for several years and had the support of the kids and community. Good Lord knows we can't have a school reward loyalty and hard work. Azle only promotes from within if you are sleeping with someone in the Administration Building, and that is the truth. Practically everyone working in the Admin. Building is married to someone that was named a Principal in the last few years.
  19. There might be a couple they could play with. My money says the vast majority of the kids at the schools you listed don't get a uniform at an average 5A school.
  20. You are absolutely right, it was a tournament game and does not mean anything. If you are going to a AA tournament you should probably throw your freshman pitcher, it's not like your aces need to get the work before district or anything.
  21. Grapeland beat Palestine? OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That HAS to leave a mark if you are from Palestine.
  22. Looks like the Kerens job is a big topic on other boards too. http://www.theoldcoach.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=45515 Just to throw out my .02 Coach Paschall would be an awesome fit for Kerens. Does anyone know for sure that he applied?
  23. Adair work a computer? Adair work?? Don't make me laugh:P
  24. And I agree with you NatureBoy. Good luck Coach Wendel. You WILL need it.
  25. That is just what Eustace needed to turn it around. Someone to implement the way they do things at the 5A level for a AA school. I am suprised that nobody has every tried this before.
