  1. I have seen both only when playing Marshall this year. Going by that, it should be a close game. Marshall was able to drive at will on both defenses, but I think we were a much better overall team last week against SS, than when we played Hallsville 5 weeks ago. Each teams offenses looked much better than their defense. So it could turn out to be the game we expected to see last week when Marshall played SS. A high scoring offensive battle, with whoever makes the most defensive stands late in the game taking it. I don't think either team can win if they are minus 2 or more in turnovers to the other team. With it being on turf, I think SS will take it by a score of about 42-31. If it were on muddy grass or in the pouring rain, I would say Hallsville wins 21-14.
  2. So basically, if Henderson wins, they will play Marshall no matter what. If they lose, and Lindale wins we play Kilgore again. And if Henderson loses, Lindale loses and Kilgore wins, then Marshall will play Lindale. Does all this sound right? No way we will play Jax or Whitehouse with them both having to go D1.
  3. I did agree with the standings at the time, other than Marshall being knocked down to 7th. Just because I actually saw the game and knew we were much better, even though I understood others had not. I simply said we will have to work our way back up and earn it now. It was more to do with me knowing Jax and Marshall were much better, but yet we were constantly overlooked. So many people on here said Marshall is way down this year because of the loss to Jax, which also meant that Jax was no good this year either.
  4. I think Marshall still looked to be about 10-14 points better than Jax in the game they lost. Since Marshall switched to the spread, it has been taking a few games to get the timing down. I think Marshall underestimated Jax in that game a bunch. Jax played fired up the whole game, While Marshall seemed lazy much of the night. It was just sloppy ball all around, with stupid penalties and turnovers inside the redzone. Nobody knew how good Jax would turn out to be at that point in the season. Our players and coaches were not prepared. Especially not expecting to have to defend the pass that much at the time. There was no game film to go by that showed how much Jax would pass. It was a game plan designed to stop Hatton. It still funny to me how low Jax and Marshall were ranked after this game. Everybody thought we were both down, and had all their money on Texas High, SS, and even Whitehouse at the time.
  5. I wouldn't say every. There were many fumbles that took good bounces for SS. One fumbled forward for a TD, two fumbled out of bounds barely, and a few that were ruled down that was questionable. Other than that, they did catch some bad breaks.
  6. Remember some of these post are not from Mav fans. Some are however, and I wish they weren't any like that from Marshall, but I guess every team has some band wagon jumpers that like to talk smack when successful. I thought SS's offense looked MUCH better than the points that got scored. If they can catch more passes and learn to wrap up the ball when taking a hit, they should still outscore several teams in the playoffs. The QB isn't Rollison, but he is still one of the best i've seen, and will be hard to stop when clicking. The SS vs Hallsville game will be very interesting next week. Basically a playoff game for both teams. Whoever doesn't turn the ball over should take it.
  7. The outcome of this game along with the outcome of the Marshall SS game, will decide all 4 teams playoff games most likely. Each of the above mentioned teams should be the ones to go small school. So the loser of this game will probably play the winner of the Marshall SS game being played on the same night. If these coaches were smart, each team will have coaches scouting both of these games this week.
  8. Didn't MISD hire an assistant head coach? If so what are his duties during the game? I would like to maybe see the best of both worlds if this is the case. Coach Harris be the main man in the locker room and on the practice field, while the other HC be the HC during the football game and maybe let Harris help out with the defense a little more on the sidelines like he used to be so good at. Of course Harris would still be involved with many things, but let some of the intangibles like time management, be the other guys main duties.
  9. He is now one of the Mav flag guys, anything else said would be too much. Although I would like to see him rejoin the team during the off season and at least try to be a successful quarterback. He has the tools, just needs to learn the hardships and work his tail off. If he does this he has a chance to make a name for himself. Come on CH, we know you can do it, just believe in yourself and practice hard. Don't let this opportunity slip by you. Its your last chance.
  10. Franklin was still recovering from major knee surgery when the district meet was taking place and before. He was getting healthier and faster every day during track season. By the time the delayed Regional track meet took place he was just about back to 100 percent. Thats when he beat Sorensen and many others in the 200, placing 3rd at the meet and qualifying for state as alternate. Sorensen qualified for the finals with Franklin and Hamilton, but finished between 6-8 I think. Which is still blazing fast being Region 2 Finals.
  11. You are right about the defenses, and turnovers are part of the game. But they have been a big part of Marshalls game for too long now. I just mentioned the Marshall turnovers because those were not forced mistakes(we just dropped the ball with no one around), and Marshalls two takeaways while could have been avoided, were forced by the defense. Either way, both teams need to work out some defensive kinks, while at the same time sneak some glue on their hands. Those kinks will be key for both teams going a couple rounds further in the playoffs.
  12. Wow, I would say this could turn into a good thing for the Lobo football offense, because that would mean more McCray. After the Marshall game I cant say that though. This kid impressed me just as much as McCray did, if not more. Tough news for the kid, AND Longviews offensive attack.
  13. You are forgetting about Aaron Franklin of Marshall, he was the fastest on the field according to track last year. But no doubt Sorensen is fast, and most games will be the fastest player on the field(Even though he doesn't play like it a lot of the time). He single handidly kept TH in the game. 2 fumbled snaps and a lost fumble in the 4th quarter kept this game a lot closer than the score indicates. Holding on to the ball is no doubt our biggest flaw at this point in the season. What were our coaches thinking, not trying to pick up the first down on that last series? Especially when Marshall was only held scoreless on one drive the whole game. (not counting the unforced fumbles) I just don't understand why we continue to drop the ball for a fumble for no reason at this point in the season. We did have defensive problems, but I think we played pretty good defense most of the night. Sorensen made plays that not many qbs would be able to make after we held them to third and long a good bit of the night. We will need 4 full quarters next week at SS.
  14. Our Qb this year is no Darius Jones, but who is? He is more dangerous to good defenses though. A good defense could go all out against the run and contain us. This years qb will keep defenses honest, and therefor make it difficult to shut us down. He is a true Qb that also has good speed. He isn't keeping the ball very much this year on the zone read, but he will keep it and outrun many defenders when you least expect it. We also have our wild mav Qb that can break it for a big gain on any play when we need it. I do think we are a better overall team this year than last. Offense is averaging just as much if not more points a game than last, Including much more passing yards. Secondary is just about the same as last year. D line is young and probably not quite to last year status yet, but our Lb's are probably the best in the district and do a good job of helping out the young line. There are some spots that are weaker than last year, but its the areas of improvement since then that has us better at this point in the season. Also, we had so many talented guys out with injury late in the year. We are in much better shape right now, knock on wood.
  15. It won't be that bad unless Marshall turns it over consecutive times again. Still hung up on how a team looks in a scrimmage? Jax didn't look too good in their scrimmage against Pine Tree and look how they started the season. You think a real game with LE and Marshall would be even too? Although Marshall did start the year very sloppy against Jax the week after. It may have been a close game if they did play a real game that week. But it usually takes awhile for Marshall to gel as a team, and put players at their correct positions.
  16. You guys are something else. If you want to blame 22 points all on lack of focus thats fine if it makes you feel better. It had nothing to do with Marshalls offense taking advantage of week spots in the lobo defense. Just like the lobo defense taking advantage of some weak throws by the Maverick offense later in the game. Marshall never got a chance in the second half to do anything on offense due to not having the ball very long. The one fumble that started the rain of turnovers had nothing to do with longviews defense and everything to do with Marshall not FOCUSING on getting the hand off. See it can go both ways.
  17. With the game being played in Marshall Ill take the Mavs in a close one. They turn the ball over like they did in the 3rd quarter against Longview Texas High wins in a blowout.
  18. I dont think any TD scored on that lobo defense is handed to them. They are stiff on any side of the field and have shut their opponents out the last 2 weeks(including SS). Marshall drove the field almost every possession when they weren't turning it over. That was the only thing keeping them in the game and it gave the defense time to rest. Once the turnovers started it went downhill. Minus 5 in turnovers to a team like Longview and you still only lose by 17 and put up 30 on them isnt too shabby. You can say the last TD was against some 2nd team players, but Marshall already proved they could score no matter who was on the field if they held onto the ball. Marshall was without their top RB the entire second half, I just hope its nothing serious. We are no doubt a more explosive offense with him on the field, and will need him against TH next week.
  19. Article from today's Longview paper, has some stats in it as well for both teams. http://www.news-journal.com/sports/content...7_longview.html Marshall game article: http://www.marshallnewsmessenger.com/sport...sfbprv_spo.html
  20. #30 Outside LB..He started the year inside, but after the Jax game they moved him back outside to help against the pass. With his 4.3 or 4.4 speed it does help against passing teams, but he's not in on as many plays and tackles now since the move. He will be in charge tonight of keeping Longviews fast QBs from breaking it outside on his side.
  21. Maybe so, 6-0 was in a recent article I read in some newspaper website. They might have gotten it wrong by 1 game. Either way they are still undefeated in district, along with Longview. I know Longview was undefeated on the season, so that was a huge comeback tie for Marshall. They came out playing inspired ball in the second half. Now only if the Varsity can play like that in the second half against Longview for a change.
  22. Marshall JV: 21 Longview JV: 21 Was about as an exciting, hard hitting, and intense JV football game I have seen in awhile. Fans came out and supported their team well too. Very nice size crowd for a JV game. Both teams were undefeated on the season at 6-0, and they didn't disappoint. Wouldn't be surprised to see these two teams win out undefeated as Co district champs.
  23. My brother saw him at the Marshall Wal-Mart last year and he said he was taking time off to spend time with family but was going back. Wasn't sure if he went back yet or not.
