  1. Aledo and Mansfield Timberview in the same district would have one of the top games in state this year.
  2. Lets assume that you give 1 and 2 to Oregon and Ohio State if its a close game, who is the rest of your top 10? Is Alabama #3 and where does Florida State rank after last night. Just for grins, could change since Kansas State still has to play. 3. TCU 4. Alabama 5. Michigan State 6. Florida State 7. Georgia Tech 8. Baylor 9. Mississippi State 10. Kansas State
  3. Any major change at UIL is voted on by the superintendents of all schools. They won't vote to put less schools in.
  4. More teams in playoffs equals more happy kids and happy moms and dads. Some coaches jobs are saved because "they made the playoffs" Also UIL gets a percentage of gate for every playoff game which means more money for them. Some districts ####, all four teams get beat in first round where some districts have four teams that win all four games. Travel restrictions will prevent bigger districts. Four teams are here to stay.
  5. It is so hard to predict from any age. How mature are they physically? 8th graders who shave on a regular basis don't normally grow much. Will their work ethic stay good? You just never know, sometimes kids get to hearing how good they are and decide they don't have to work as hard as others. Who are they playing? In Tyler when I grew up there the junior highs just played each other they didn't play the Longview and Lufkin junior highs so a group would look really good beating kids who didn't even play high school football. Many great junior high athletes get into high school and decide girls, drinking, partying, work or many other things are more important than the hard work it takes to be great especially the ones who went to the super bowl in third grade. They get burned out. Good coaches and parents will help with a bunch of this.
  6. Its just like everything else today, keeping people happy. No one understands why their little Johnny didn't get anything.
  7. The biggest problem that people had about a central site was the local school lost control. Yes there were games in the past where the two teams couldn't agree and a team lost a flip but at least they were involved in deciding day, time and site. Now the UIL decides all of that for you. If two teams are evenly matched do you really want to drive a longer way, spend the night in a hotel and play in a stadium you have never played in when your opponent sleeps in their own bed and plays in a stadium they played in two weeks ago? Is that a neutral site? Do you want to play on Thursday at noon. It is great for the fans who just want a chance to see several football games but no so great for the individual teams and their fans. All that being said it is a done deal and will not change back. The reason it won't is the same reason it became a central site. Money. The UIL is getting all the TV money and a much larger gate than before. The teams still get a portion of the gate but overall the UIL is making more money than ever. So it may leave Jerry World but only to a dome stadium that seats 50k plus. Maybe the UIL needs the money for its events that don't produce revenue, but a single site is here to stay.
  8. Even if they do rotate it all three stadiums should have replay capabilities as long as Fox Southwest carries them. That was the real reason the UIL went to a central site was so they could get the TV money. I love it being at Jerry World but if my team was having to take a long ride and spend the night in a hotel to play a team that was sleeping in their own beds and driving over in 30 minutes I might not like it. They say Alamodome doesn't have enough dressing rooms and Houston was originally only grass field. I hear they have a turf field they can use now. Katy may like Cedar Hill to travel next year.
  9. The fumble against Argyle that went out the end zone and the Temple onside kick that was caught out of bounds are both calls that could have been over ruled at state with instant replay. Aledo managed to win anyway but Argyle didn't. Will the day ever come where they use instant replay at state? Can't think of too many other games that would have enough cameras but they do at state.
  10. Aledo only had one back on defense this year and pulled it off but next year with only two back on offense it may be tough.
  11. On old Coach they were kidding about the cheating. Aledo gets accused of recruiting on that site all the time because kids are moving out of Ft Worth to Aledo and several are good football players. None of the JT captains shook hands which the Aledo captains used to further fire their team up. Don't know if the coach knew about this ahead of time but it wasn't the smartest move they could make.
  12. Are they playing any better than the last few years?
  13. With new coaches who have a proven record will the Pirates be any better this year or just the same old stuff?
  14. I know that public schools around the state have many problems and I'm sure TISD has its share. The growth of Whitehouse and Bullard compared to Tyler is a state trend. Fort Worth ISD has only 1 5A school now and little Keller has three. People are moving to the suburbs. Many of the problems yall have mentioned come from the state. You can't kick kids out of school only put them in an alternative program. Mark White and Ross Perot decided years ago that we were wasting money on vocational programs and should have more college prep classes required. Everyone needs chemistry and 4 years of math. Some kids may not be made up for that, and it waters those classes down. Some schools have the kids where they put empahsis on the SAT and ACT and others have to spend all day on TAKS. If you have a bright kid TAKS is not that hard but your kid is forced to spend alot of time on it. Private schools don't have TAKS. I'm not that familiar with Tyler anymore but some of the problems I am reading about are state wide not just TISD.
