  1. Bobcats defense is fast, athletic and tough. They’re gonna create some problems for the Anna offense, which struggled against Aubrey and needed a last-second hook-n-lateral miracle to win. Anna QB will have to make a ton of throws with pressure in his face. Offensively, things could get interesting for the Bobcats. Could see No. 3 and 4 RBs on the depth chart lead the way. Gayton has not played since week 1 (and that was sparingly) and Peterson, our top back so far, went out with some sort of injury last week. Have no idea what it was or his status. But if neither of them are in the game, it could create some issues for Celina. Fortunately, Will Taylor and Harrison Williams have gotten tons of carries already. Both are more than capable backs. Could even see senior TE/H-Back Caden Mitchell tote the rock some this week. Bentley will most likely use his legs on some designed runs more too. End of the day, no matter the RB situation, I like Celina in this one. Good measuring stick for the Bobcats.
  2. Neither team has played a very good schedule. Celina’s has been awful. Anna’s a touch better. But Decatur is pretty meh, Aubrey is down from what they have been, and Van Alsytne is in a big rebuilding year. That said, Anna is pretty solid. Never in my life did I think I’d see a top 10 matchup between Celina and Anna. Never. But the Coyotes appear to be for real in 2022. They are senior heavy. Possess a good amount of speed at the skill positions, and have a QB that can beat you a few different ways. Anna will be the best team Celina has played thus far, and probably best they’ll see until the playoffs - which scares me. Celina will far and away be the best team Anna has played too, and that will probably be true into the playoffs too.
  3. This game could honestly be over by the end of the first quarter, if Gilmer wants it to be. It's just not a good matchup for Paris this time around.
  4. A couple things from an outsider's perspective: 1) I think Chapel Hill is going to be fine. The talent is absurd. This team is still relatively "young," too. Gilmer is a legitimate state title contender, and would be whether in Div. I or II in my opinion, so that loss isn't too bad. The Van loss is a bit more of a head-scratcher, but that loss could mean exactly squat by season's end. 2) I think everyone assumes Region III is always going to be loaded because it has east Texas teams, and everyone usually assumes/labels one of those districts the District of Doom, even though I'd argue a true DoD hasn't reeeaaalllly existed since the early 2010's, before the divisional split .... back in the old 3A days. Truth is, Region III in Div. I looks a scooch down this season. I'd also say Region III in Div. II is "down" too, simply because Carthage isn't on that side of the bracket. 3) Taking point No. 2 into consideration, I'd say Van could/would certainly be in the conversation of a Region III title in Div. I this season. I'd slot them behind Kilgore and, I'll catch fire for this, probably still behind Chapel Hill. I KNOW the Vandals just won, but come playoff time, I THINK CH would win a rematch. The ceiling is much higher for CH. Obviously a moot point, just part of the discussion. Apart from those two teams, there's no one I'd say is obviously better than Van. El Campo has really, really disappointed so far. Ricebirds should be much more concerned than CH fans. Lindale looks pretty pedestrian, as does the rest of the field in Region III. So Van would slot right into that conversation. 4) Back to the main topic of this thread, I think anytime a team comes in with the expectations and hype that CH had to start the year, and you go 0-2 out of the gate, people get concerned. Bobcats fans FREAKED the F out in 2008 when Celina started poorly. Ended up making a fairly dominant run through the postseason and lost in the state title game to Carthage. Expectations are very often conflated, and a slight deviation or apparent regression from them leads to panic. Truth is, CH is still probably the most purely talented team in the Region, and probably on that right side of the bracket in general. Maybe that is enough, maybe it isn't. But if given the choice of a so-so talented team with no expectations that starts 2-0, or a talent-laden squad with massive ceiling and crazy expectations, I'd take my chances with that kind of talent, if you know what I mean. Thanks for attending my TEDx Talk on 4A Div. I, Region III football.
  5. This one will get ugly fast. Paris played pretty hard against Celina, but they were overwhelmed by Celina’s size, speed and depth. The Wildcats QB is quick and athletic and he — along with over 200 yards of penalties by the Bobcats — is all that kept the game against Celina as close as it was. Paris could not stop the Bobcats rushing attack at all. We threw for 260ish and rushed for 200ish, averaged about 6 yards per carry too. Offensively, Paris seemed to have 2-3 plays they wanted to run and after the first quarter, they had no success, even against the 2nd and 3rd team of Celina. Paris is athletic like always, but as others have mentioned, they’re young. You can tell. Tough start to the season for the Wildcats, as they’re staring at an 0-3 start. Still have a chance to make the playoffs, as long as their spirits aren’t broken by the time district comes.
  6. Celina 65 Bishop Lynch 3 FINAL Running clock and 3rd stringers in the second half. Bobcats coulda scored triple digits easy. Tough couple games for the Friars. They have a freshman QB who was pretty accurate when he had time, a decent WR. Bobcats defense is nasty though.
  7. This one is ugly, ugly. Celina 44 Bishop Lynch 3 HALF
  8. Stepp catches heat from it because he's more or less the face of DCTF now. I know Tepp's face is everywhere, and he's on TV all the time, and people are recognizing Pickle more and more. But Stepp's been around forever, most people know him and like him, so he's going to be the one people reach out to/vent to when they don't know anyone else or any other way. And it's not so much about not having patience. You're right that it does take time to get a product right, and DCTF had a whole lot of time to get it right. The problem is when you try to roll out the product before it is right. Of course people won't have a great tolerance for that, because that's bass ackwards. You build it. You test it. You tweak it. You retest it. You tweak it more. You retest it. You get it right. When it's right, you release it. And then you patch/update as needed. DCTF released a non-functioning product and everyone unknowingly became beta testers. I think they'll get it right eventually too. But I don't think they'll ever get it right to the point that it'll stand up against the old app from an aesthetic/user-centric perspective.
  9. That's very kind, micro. A bit bold for my blood, but kind, nonetheless. The pieces are certainly there. We've got a whole heck of a lot to work on, I know that. Those pieces have a lot of growing and maturing to do. We're going to need to steadily progress every week and stay hungry. We are not without some weak spots that need to be shored up, and there's a whole lot of season and a plethora of teams who will have something to say about it. But I think Bobcats fans are excited.
  10. Bishop Lynch got throttled by LD Bell last week, 65-21. I don't know much about the Blue Raiders, but that doesn't bode well for the Friar's chances this week. It is good Bishop Lynch has size in the trenches, because they'll need it. Celina is huge up front, and poor Paris stood no chance on the offensive or defensive line. Bobcats big heavies just leaned on Paris all game long and it didn't take long for the Wildcats to get worn out. Celina's RBs looked really, really good. Troy Peterson looked completely healthy, which he never was a year ago, and he has gained some speed, a little size and a ton of strength. Paris DBs wanted no part of him. He probably averaged close to 10 yards per carry. The passing game was pretty vanilla for the Bobcats, but that seemed intentional. May need to open it up a bit more this week. My biggest concern for Celina after game one was the penalties. Bobcats had over 200-yards-worth of penalties. That's insane. Those penalties are a big reason Paris was able to score at all, in all honesty. Some of that was a product of some very green officiating. Some of it was lack of discipline on Celina's part. Either way, they'll need to get that cleaned up pretty quick. I think we'll see a slightly better game this week, but I still think the Bobcats win by 2-3 possessions again.
  11. Celina turns a big hit into another scoop-and-score as time expires in the first half. Celina 42 Paris 14 Wildcats’ two scores came on short fields. Paris QB is shifty and is the only thing that kept this game as close as it is. Bobcats are getting a ton of penalties, some of them warranted, some of them are just laughable. Celina’s front on both sides of the ball is just wearing Paris out. Bobcats two RBs, Gayton and Peterson are looking really, really good. Wildcats DBs want no part.
  12. This is a spam link and a spam account. They are out in full force now that the season is going. DCTF links to streams will usually go through TexanLive. Also, always check the actual user name of whatever account tweets out the info ... @dctf_fb is a spam account. @dctf is the OFFICIAL Dave Campbell's account.
  13. Man, I just got around to really using the app again and it is atrocious. I cannot for the life of me understand what they’re trying to accomplish. After all the uproar a year ago and then having a FULL YEAR to engineer something better, this is what they settled on. I get needing to update/refresh and patch vulnerabilities. But this isn’t what that is. This is a whole new aesthetic, and it’s a bad one. Poor navigation. Clunky. Ugly design. The scores portion is so poorly conceived it looks like DCTF has unpaid interns doing their UX/UI jobs. I love DCTF, but this is a piss poor effort on their part. Two years worth of piss poor effort.
  14. It should definitely be a pad-popper. It usually is when these two teams get together. Very, very physical.
  15. Celina is "young" in the secondary. I say that relatively speaking, because most of the backside of the defense got ample playing time a year ago. So they're "young" but pretty experienced. They are speedy too. Decent ceiling with that group. I imagine Paris will break off a couple big runs against the Bobcats, honestly, because Celina's LBs are so young and have so few varsity reps. They'll grow up pretty quickly, I think, because there are some studs at the position. They just need to grow into those varsity roles now. By week 3-4, they'll be totally different players. Where Paris could have success is throwing the ball to a back out of the backfield. Those young Bobcats LBs had a hard time with those plays in scrimmages. I imagine d-coord Coach Ford will have that ironed out quickly, though. Wildcats are going to have their hands full with Trae Hollins and Jake Vincent coming off the edges for Celina, though. Hollins is a monster. He's an all-state caliber kid and he will be a problem for offenses. Also going to get some looks on offense too, which will be a lot of fun.
  16. Paris will definitely be athletic and speedy. But like you said, regal, it's just hard to know which Paris team will show up. Not having Hohenberg will be tough though. Celina does have a lot of pieces this year. Gayton has looked like an absolute MONSTER at RB, and Troy Peterson, who dealt with injuries last year, has looked equally impressive at RB. Both speedy. Both super strong. Bentley should carry that 3rd-year senior QB confidence with him this season. We've got some skill guys to replace, but some nice pieces to fill in. Caden Mitchell at TE could be the cornerstone of the passing game this year. Good hands. Clean route runner. Tough runner when he's got the ball. For the Bobcats to be successful this season, we'll need the relatively young offensive line to mature quickly and develop that chemistry. The talent is there. The size is most definitely there. Just got to put it together. And we'll need the young LBs on defense to really step up. They are fast, athletic and hard-hitting. But they're green and haven't had many game-speed varsity reps. You could see that clearly in the scrimmages. But if they can develop and mature, Bobcats will play for a long time this season.
  17. Brock is built like a 4A Div. II team, in all honesty, and it won't be long before they join the ranks. So they won't simply roll over in this one. But I think the Hawks overall speed is going to cause some problems for Brock. This one will be exciting and close for a bit, but I think PG pulls away and wins this one by a couple possessions.
  18. Man, this ought to be a helluva Week One matchup. Melissa is loaded to the gills with some next-level talent, especially defensively. If all things hold equal, I think the Cardinals are a notch better than Argyle, strictly speaking on talent alone. But all things never hold equal, and Argyle has a better overall program, and the Eagles typically find a way to consistently put all the pieces together on the field. Argyle usually starts fast, too, something Melissa hasn't always done extremely well. Argyle is not without a ton of talent, though. And I'm sure last year's matchup between these two teams left a sour, sour taste in the mouths of the Eagles. If Melissa didn't have any questions at QB, I'd pick the Cardinals by two or more scores, honestly. Because there's some uncertainty there (from an outsider's viewpoint), I'll take Melissa by one possession. I think it's a good game. I just think Melissa's defense is a step above Argyle's right now, and it makes just enough difference in game one. I could see this being a low-scoring affair ... both teams in the 20s, or just below.
  19. They should, but … and this sounds crazy to say … watch out for Anna. Coyotes have a ton of talent. But that talent will have to do something Anna has really never done before, historically, and that’s turn talent into success on the field.
  20. The flipside is, Paris is a team that can sneak up on you any week. Doesn't matter what their record is. If you don't prepare and take them seriously, you could come out with an L.
  21. True. I don't think Paris has a huge fan base on here, to be fair. And also, the Wildcats are just so up-and-down. They always seem to have great athletes, lots of speed all over the field, but never can quite put it together. I'd say Paris, more often than not, under performs expectations, especially with the personnel they usually field.
  22. Great show, boys. Sure looks like Div. I is going to be entertaining as hell this year.
  23. Dwight Smith beat Celina in that 2008 matchup lol. Apart from him, Celina and Carthage went blow-for-blow in that matchup and were pretty evenly matched. Apart from one matchup, Gilmer has always been an Achilles heel for the Bobcats, and it's been a combination of speed/athleticism and a scheme that the coaching staff just has never adapted to, for whatever reason. Henderson in 2011-12 and Daingerfield 2008-09 were similar and had similar results against the Bobcats, although the Tigers did not blowout the Bobcats. So I should relent a little and say you're right C&C, speed AND scheme have created problems for the Bobcats. Speed alone hasn't always been the thing to bring Celina down.
  24. They can and have beat teams with speed. It’s been scheme usually that’s brought the Bobcats down.
