Shohei Ohtani's contract.

Everyone was talking about $500 million, he skipped right over 600 and went to 700.

Also, the salary is based on where they play, not where home is. So, as I understand it, it's taxed based on the state they play each game. So, when the Dodgers play in Texas, he is taxed based on Texas taxes. When he plays in Missouri, he pays Missouri taxes.

Taxes in California are ridiculous.

I was researching state + Federal taxes on time and California was tops on the list at 45% total taxation.  I believe California taxes have increased since that research.

Is it true that since he deferred the bulk of the salary to the end, that he will be taxed based on where he lives at that time, so he is basically avoiding California taxes on the bulk of his contract?

It's not based on where he lives .... he is responsible for state taxes in ever state that has a state income tax everywhere he plays games or makes any other income  .....
