They also played a very good Logansport team to a 60 to 58 loss in 97. That Tenaha team was very strong and widely considered one of the best small school teams of all time. Those Garrison teams were very good, but I think the Tenaha team and the current Timpson teams could beat them. No disrespect just my opinion. Not even close ... lol

Numberjack
I'll take Garrison with the upset. Garrison gave them a run for their money last year running a 5-1 defense that was horrendous all year. This year they are much improved running more of a 3-4 look predominantly. Also, I'm fairly confident they can kick an extra point this year.
Cowboys1970
I think this will be a good game and what a District Championship game should be all about!!!! However, I saw a post from Gen7Dragon and I needed to make a correction. In 1997 football season (if that's what he/she referring to) Elysian Field did not lose to Celina in state championship. They lost to Alto in Kilgore in the Region Quarterfinals. That was Brian Gamble's senior year! Alto maybe should have been in state title game that year, but fell short the next week to the Roger Eagles to finish 14-1 on the year. Maybe the 1998 season is what you really meant thou! Cowboys1970
1995...U have the correct score. It was a back and forth battle the night before Christmas Eve! Remember it like it was just yesterday! Then to start 96 season Alto was #1 and Celina came in at #2 and both got beat out in the second round. EdgarAllenPwn
FINALLY! A game worth logging in for — been a boring season up to this point. I’ve caught a few diboll games. They are salty this year but could be better

Those Garrison teams won State in what is now 3A DII .... the Tennyhaw teams won their rings in the Pee Wee leagues, two classifications lower .... if Garrison had been playing that far down the totem pole we would have won 4 or 5 more State Championships .... This is pure genius, can't believe nobody has thought of this. The same could be said of dozens of programs... let them play two classifications down and they could rack up plenty of championships. Sittinsideways
The Garrison line would be the major difference between the two. There's no way that Tenaha's line was in the same category as Garrison's back then. On the skill side though, Tenaha of course had Chavis, Osby (transferred from Timpson). Garrison had Blount which was a great athlete but not on the same level as Chavis. Garrison wins that one in a close one, but Chavis gets his. Diehard
The “others” will be the deciding factor. I believe stars for both teams shine…. Who else is gonna make a play or mistake that decides the outcome?

JMO The Wheeler team that Tenaha beat for the championship had a really big line on both sides of the ball. Their MLB was an A&M committ, and I'm pretty sure they had some other D1 big men. Not 100% sure, but I watched the game in person and they were really big.

StingEmALTO
Bussey & Crew roll on senior night in their last game on the home turf. Hard to believe they are already seniors! I don't think it will be easy but fate and all. lol I remember back to that 7-0 shocker in 2019 when Timpson defeated Garrison at home; these seniors were only 8th graders and they don't have a loss to Garrison. I think they take care of business for an historic 4 years in a row 10-0 in program history. Did a little research because a state-ranked #1 9-0 vs #9 9-0 had me curious.
