GAME PREVIEW & SERIES REVIEW
A 39th district championship. That's what on the line for Longview as they enter their final road game of the regular season. The Lobos head to Tyler to square off in the familiar confines of Trinity Mother France Rose Stadium against their lone East Texas district match in the Tyler Lee Red Raiders. Longview and Tyler Lee meet for the 59th time, with the Lobos having won 42 of the previous 58 contests. The 58 meetings are 5th most in Longview's history, behind just Marshall, John Tyler, Lufkin and Texas High. The 42 wins for Longview are the 3rd most in program history for wins over a single opponent, behind Marshall and John Tyler. The Lobos come into the game against Tyler Lee on a number of winning streaks. First is Longview's winning streak over Tyler Lee. Longview has won 13 in a row against their rivals from the west. The last loss Longview had against Tyler Lee was in 2003, also their last homecoming loss. The Lobos were ahead 14-3 against the Red Raiders at halftime in that 2003 game, before the Red Raiders fought back and escaped Lobo Stadium with a 18-14 win. The current 13-game winning streak is 3rd longest in program history. A win tonight would tie the 2nd longest winning streak over an opponent. Marshall holds the top two losing streaks against Longview at 19 (1969 to 1987) and 14 (2001 to 2014). Longview also comes into the game Friday night on an 8-game winning streak. It's only the 24th time in program history that Longview has strung together 8 wins in a row. It's the first time since 2004/2005 that the Lobos have accomplished that in back to back season (Lobos won 10 in a row last season). Longview also won their 14th regular season game in a row in their 63-3 victory over North Mesquite last Friday night. Longview looks to win their 15th regular season game in a row on Friday night, becoming the 5th Lobo team in program history to win at least 15 regular season games in a row. And ending the winning streak speech, the Lobos have also won 10 district contests in a row for the third time under John King, and for just the 7th time in program history. Longview clinched their 44th playoff appearance with the win last week against North Mesquite. The district crown is on the line for the Lobos tonight, as they look to win their 13th district crown in the 15 seasons under John King. However, they have not won an outright district championship since 2014. They'll have to win out to accomplish that goal. A series that dates back to 1960, the Lobos and Red Raiders have been rivals since the beginning of their series. Longview won the first three contests that would begin a back and forth series in the first 12 games. Longview and Robert E Lee would trade back to back to back to back three game winning streaks over each other from 1960 to 1971. From there, the Lobos really took control of the series, winning 22 of the next 26 meetings, with only two losses thrown into those 26 games. After the Red Raiders gained control of the series from 1998 to 2003, winning 5 of those 6 meetings, Longview has gone on a tear, winning 13 consecutive games against the Red Raiders. The closest of those 13, was the very first one when the Lobos and Raiders battled to an overtime showdown. Longview trailed 28-14 before storming back, scoring the tying touchdown in the last few minutes of the fourth. Vondrell McGee scored on Longview's first and only offensive play of overtime in a 34-31 victory that gave Longview their first district championship in seven seasons.

In 1962, David Thomas carried in a one yard score on the first play of the 4th quarter to give the Mavericks a 7-0 lead. The drive was set up by a Longview fumble on the Lobo 25 yard line. The Mavericks hung on for the 7-0 win over Longview at Maverick Stadium.

After all of the away teams won in 11-6A last week, all the home teams in 11-6A win this week.

Will get the game preview up in the morning.

But Lobos looking to clinch a share of their 39th district championship.

This week will pretty much decide everything really.

Longview can clinch top spot in D2 with a win.

Killeen Ellison takes on Killeen in a game that Killeen can clinch a playoff spot with a win and eliminate Ellison and Copperas Cove.

And with that....Waco Midway finally plays a team in district with a winning record as they travel to Temple in which if Killeen wins, will decide who Longview plays in round one (the loser of the game).

Also with North and Horn meeting, it virtually decides if Rockwall goes Division 1 or Division II.

They didn't even make it to halfway through the 2nd quarter this week lol

Lol, true, but King gotta keep 'em in shape. They need the game reps as we get closer to the post-season. I want 'em sharp and polished.

I almost want to go to this game just to see how bad Lee is.

They lost to Marshall, JT and North...all teams Longview dominated and two of them the Lobos put a 60 mark on. They’re pretty bad.

I said this to Lobo07 and 84 last night in group chat.....

Warms my heart knowing Marshall wasn't THE WORST team Longview has faced all season.  Maybe not even top 3 LMAO.

Good luck Lobos.... hope we BOTH have lots of fun in November.....AND DECEMBER.

I think that was going to be clear the second y'all defeated Lee that wasn't going to be the case lol.

After seeing North in person and watching them beat Lee (believe I told the madre that it was like watching a JV game compared to our boys), I knew we would dominate North...but I certainly didn't expect a score line like last night. I'm glad King kept our boys in until the 4th last week against Heath, cause goodness...they barely got any reps last night.

The scary part is they still left points on the field (the drive right before the end of the half, and the one time our 2nd/3rd string went for it on 4th and 10).

Lee is definitely a rival, but I can't see them putting up much fight against us tbh.

So who needs to win for Rockwall to go D1?

Best bet, even though Lee is still alive technically, is for Mesquite Horn to win out. The next two weeks will be interesting really.

North Mesquite (1-3) has Mesquite Horn, Rockwall Heath
Tyler Lee (1-3) has Longview, Mesquite Horn
Mesquite Horn (1-3) has North Mesquite, Tyler Lee

If Tyler Lee OR Mesquite Horn gets in, Rockwall is going Division I.

There's a couple different things that could happen...

1) Horn making it
Mesquite Horn winning out would send them into the post season, as they would finish 3-3. North and Lee would both have at least 4 losses. That would make it - Division I, Rockwall/Mesquite - Division II, Longview/Mesquite Horn

2) North making it
North winning out would send them into the post season, as they would finish 3-3. Horn would have a 4th loss, and Lee even if they won out would lose the tiebreaker to North as the Stallions beat the Red Raiders already. That would make it - Division I, Mesquite/North Mesquite - Division II, Longview/Rockwall

3) Lee making it
Tyler Lee winning out, or even just beating Mesquite Horn, would send them to the post season. If Lee wins out, as long as North Mesquite does not also win out with Horn and Heath, would send them to the post season as 3-3. But also, if Lee loses to Longview, but beats Horn...they would have to hope North Mesquite loses out as well. As that would set up the potential standings to look like Lee (2-4), Horn (2-4), North (1-5). Heath technically would be in a potential 3 way tie with these two after that, but they would lose all the tiebreakers with their point differential and tie breaker losses to both Lee and Horn. That would make it - Division I, Rockwall/Mesquite - Division II, Longview/Tyler Lee

4) 3 way tie
North losing to Horn would push them to 1-4. Lee losing to Longview would push them to 1-4. Horn beating North would push them to 2-3. So say, Lee ends up beating Horn in the final week of the season, and North defeats Heath...we would end the season with North, Lee and Horn all tied at 2-4. Would come down to point differential to eliminate one team, then it would go to head to head. So can't really say yet, but there is a 17 point cap so we would just have to see what would happen with the point differential in the Horn/North game and the Lee/Horn game.

I have to say it’s finally nice to see the Lobo band play some new things during game.... wow they look good!!!! Great job Tommy Moore!!!!

"The Aggie War Hymn..."

It definitely caught my attention !

Tommy needs to show equal time to the State's Flagship University by teaching his group the "Eyes of Texas" !

That would likely be wishful thinking on my part though...
